You got it absolutely right. I don’t think I’ll move into MSFS2024 unless they make an offline mode. What if the internet goes down in a snowstorm? This happens around where I live. And that snowstorm is not necessarily where I live. But internet cuts do happen. I am staying in MSFS2020 until Asobo/Microsoft makes an offline mode. Apart from that, I want the possibility to download my planes and scenery I buy, and not have them in the cloud all the time.

Cloud has definitely some bad sides for sure, but it has some really good sides too. Just recently the stream issues have been overworked quite good, and everything loads very fast. It's not super good yet, but it keeps my hopes up, that this will only get better over time.

Even if the plane is on your local disk, and all weather and scenery (beyond a base layer "ground, no detail") stays on cloud, at least we could "fly" the plane over green grassland cavok while we sort out network issues

There won't be an offline mode for 2024, It negates the entire architecture.
@andersdrakkar
@andersdrakkar Ай бұрын
@@underleft Asobo saw the fiasco. They can jolly well (as they say in the UK) modify the architecture of the game and I am pretty sure they will gain many more customers. The cloud works when you have internet AND when their end works well of course. This goes both ways. I for one, like many others, fly heavies long distance flights. Who can assure me the 10 hour flight will go well without a crash to desktop, an internet hiccup and end my flight anyways (especially now in winter with a snowstorm) etc… we absolutely need the base world in our computers, like FS2020 has. I’m not going to throw money into a system that I can’t own in my computer because it will fail.

Thanks for bringing this up. The online streaming requirement is a no-go for me at the moment, with my slow n' spotty internet access. I'd absolutely love to play 2024 if I could download to run it offline, even if it's Gigs of data and takes a full week to complete. I'll be making cargo runs in 2020 with my little ATR until then :)

My guess is that it follows the new way of “you’ll own nothing” mentality. What’s to stop them moving to “pay for updates” or “pay for cloud use” If they don’t give an offline mode, it’s clear they only care about enslaving us to online modes to ensure higher revenues at our expense. Not surprising…eventually all good companies screw the loyal customers who paid and brought them to this point.

4 days in, I still can't get in to the sim beyond the menu in the UK and that's frankly quite disgraceful now. We're all trying to still be excited, and still trying to be patient but that only goes so far I agree with offline mode - get rid of the cloud, this has proved it doesn't yet work and isn't ready. Similarly they need to give us the option to import our 2020 keybinds into 2024.

An offline mode is absolutely crucial to save the simulator. Even if it’s just for the basic architecture of the simulator like aircraft and basic scenery. The dependency on a fully cloud base is complete lunacy and this example is the perfect reason to show that we are not there yet. Sometime in the future we hope this will be successful, but not today. The idea on paper sounds perfect for everyone, the sadly reality will always come crashing down on us.

100% - at least being able to download your planes and airports locally would be a huge improvement. Switching to external view and back, then watching your cockpit gauges slowly res back in is a non-starter. Waiting for aircraft thumbnails and liveries to slowly load in when changing planes in the menus is pretty disappointing as well. There's lots of little bad / frustrating UI choices and some really annoying bugs/choices from 2020 that haven't gone away as well, but all of that is fixable, as long as they can move part of the streaming to local content. Also, thanks for a grounded / non-hysterical video ;)

YES !!! Finally someone mentioning this issue (cloud based). It’s so frustrating to spend hundreds on upgrades in anticipation of this release to be limited now by the number of players at any given time, the possibility of my service provider throttling my speeds, or being throttled by Microsoft themselves. Thank you! I agree, and I will be expressing my opinion through forums and directly. I have to ask the question with every subsequent iteration of a popular game/sim: why redo or completely upend everything that works? They have a blueprint with FS2020. Even 4 years of control settings and muscle memory upended. I’m yet to make a single flight in 3024 because I have to remap all of my controls before I can even take a single flight. This is just crazy. But, the streaming. Sheesh. This means not only do we not own the game after purchasing it, it also means that a server issue can result in global inaccessibility or at minimum, regional players unable to access. This is such a bad idea.

The downloading of a selected cache region like in FS2020 was perfect for me. I just selected what I wanted to be at various quality levels and download 100Gb of what I wanted. The fps went up substantially and I was happy with that. If FS2024 had this then we could do the same and only use a rolling cache if we roam outside the region previously selected/downloaded. If my internet ever went out then if I could load FS2024 to still play locally in my region that was held locally then it would not be a bother. Right now, if I tried to load FS2024 I would not be able to do a thing.

Thank you for the informative video. Good to hear about the flightmodel improvements which are in MSFS2024. It goes beyond saying I’m totally in favor for the option to be above to download a least a part of the simulator offline. I have a strong feeling MS/Asobo have underestimated the effects of making the simulator so completely dependent on the cloud. It should (must) be possible to have an offline mode, for at least a region. Most people don’t fly all over the world but focus on a certain region, at least for some time..

THANK YOU for bringing awareness to the fact there is no online mode and the game relies heavily on the cloud. If we remember correctly when the Xbox one was first announced it required authentication to play any game and hence required the Xbox to be online, even to launch a game. Remember who won that generation(PS4). I appreciate the cloud, we don’t have petabytes of drive capacity yet; but I had no problem with loading times in 2020, I don’t know where this notion that loading times in the sim where an issue.(maybe just me) the only thing motivating me to upgrade to 2024 is the seasons(laugh at me) and the fact that devs like inibuilds are starting to abandon 2020(probably an incentive from MS). Don’t get me started with the ugly UI. This game feels like the arcade (sims 4) game we all dreaded when they first announced 2020(at least the simmers) thank you for not abandoning 2020 yet! Cheers!

I think there’s no going back on the cloud aspects. I think what we should be campaigning for is the most capable Microsoft backend to support it. Once the marketplace comes available, there will also be coming the chance to download pretty much everything to your hard-drive and you can actually choose what you want to be downloaded and what streamed. Of course you can't download live data like live weather but I had a look at it and there is pretty much everything from sceneries, tins, aircrafts, animals, etc. This also means that you are not required to download every world update instead you can have them on cloud or disabled if you don't fly around that region.

Did 2020 even have a fully offline mode? A lot of scenery was streamed, so I don't think it's practical to suggest they offer a totally offline mode, but if they gave us the option to have it like 2020 where we have planes and airports offline, and then just stream the world scenery, I think that would make a lot of sense, and keep the server load down. It would also mean that if something goes wrong with your internet connection during a flight, you could at least finish the flight and land it.

The Majority of new games are disappointing at launch. With board members of these companies so addicted to pre-orders, the only way to fight back is to not purchase games until after the first patches post release which will force board members to put pressure on developers to release fully completed and tested games rather than developers spending most of their time wining and dining "influencers" rather than completing their games. I also no longer purchase games that are dependent on servers to play as those servers can be shut down whenever the publisher feels like pressuring customers to buy a newer version. At the end of the day, your money has power if you have patience and know how to use it.

Totally agree that there should be the option for offline functionality. Personally, i don't really have a problem streaming the real world scenery, but i would much rather have the airports and aircraft on my SSD drive. I mean, if the scenery can't stream in and has to fallback to some sort of basic "default" scenery, that's one thing, at least i can still fly. But if a plane won't load in, well - there is no flying then! I can understand some users who can't afford larger SSDs or X-Box users with limited drive space will reap the benefits from keeping everything online, which is why i think it needs to be an OPTION, but for someone like me with several TB of SSD space, it would be an option i would definitely take advantage of as there is no advantage in that case with having it all online only. Further, if they did that add that option, it might lower server demand, making it likely that those who would benefit from keeping everything online would see less service interruptions as well...

I don't agree on that fully. When the cloud system works good, it has a lot of neat benefits. Recently they overworked those stream issues and now it loads very quickly. Which keeps my hopes up that it will become better. Atleast iam looking forward how that is gonna develop.

I would like to download all my planes. I can’t load any of them up to customize them it’s takes too long, I just want to jump in and fly. Once you’re in it’s great but just setting things up at the moment is kind of a faff

I agree. They should have delayed the initial sim launch until the marketplace download content is available. They've rushed it and jinx it so bad. Right now, developing for MSFS 2024 is like a dog chasing its tail. There will be many bug fixes in the future that will make any developer lose their sanity. On the other hand, MSFS 2020 is in a much more mature state, and developers are somewhat more comfortable with it. It also has a four-year lifespan.

Thank you, I left 2020 mid last year, because it just never worked on my I9-13400/nv-4090 PC. Went to XP-12, and it just works great. I always 95% fly the SSG-747, and it's just a great plane, highly recommended. I have been sim pilot since FS-95, so been doing this a while, huge supporter of MS sims until 2020. I will not waste my money again on 2024.

It looks phenomenal!!!😁 I have a question and I hope it's not weird but will this be available LATER on Xbox? I say later because I know it will be an additional job for you but I just wait to see if it's in your idea then expand, because like other excellent MSFS developers like Phoenix or Ifly, due to external things you can't bring your products to Xbox. If this question was answered at another time, I'm sorry. ✌🏽🤙🏽

I think the all in the cloud thing is the future anyway. It‘s naiv to believe it isn‘t. All they need to do is increase capacity and reliability and also allow you to download crucial stuff. The explained it well that there is no other way to keep increasing the amount of data.

I don't think the cache is working properly which may be adding to the cloud service woes. Each client downloading the same stuff over and over.

streaming airplanes instead of downloading them is a ridiculous idea, the plane stays with you during the entire flight.

Mine loads but it’s so full of glitches. I could barely get past my first “first flight” in career mode. Landing challenges are almost impossible, I.e. no throttle control, extreme turbulence etc.

People were complaining that MSFS was so bloated with all the 3rd party stuff in the community folder that people did not have the hard drive space to store the game. I can see why they went to the cloud. But, its like whack a mole, solve one issue and several more pop up. I think going cloud based is them looking towards the future of gaming and not looking at the past.

The career flightplanning and fuel calculations have a 100% failure rate. It is astonashing to have a 100% anything. But they managed to do it. It just tells me that they have not even flown one complete flight in career. Otherwise they would have noticed😂

About the cloud thing; if the real planes need the solidity of ARINC429 connections inside the plane, then why not devout our efforts, as an industry to have everything about the simulation be as solid as ARINC429? TCP/IP doesn't cut it.

You can't even disable marketplace addons. Many of which are designed for 2020 and broken in 2024 but you are forced to have them "streamed" with no option to disable them

You aren’t wrong. But I don’t think they can X-Box it without the cloud stuff. This is America, well into the 21st century, and any game or simulation developer that wants serious traction in the most lucrative market needs to go console or go home. I recently bought a new stick with twist rudder because I had to leave my pedals behind in the move from the basement to the living room. Out of the box it was set up for X-Box. The handwriting is on the wall. So, all this cloud stuff (and the multithreading etc. which marginalized the processor I bought for MSFS 2020) is 1) brilliant if they can make it work and 2) not in my best interests. What I expect is that the devs will be much more focused on X-Box issues than PC issues. So I would not expect effort on stand-alone features for MSFS 2024. What I would hope for is a commitment to maintain MSFS 2020, and some work on cross-platform compatibility between the two versions. I have not downloaded MSFS 2024 yet (waiting for the drama to die down). I will probably buy MSFS 2020, because. . . Why not? The real cost is computer hardware and peripherals, the cost of the sim is chump change. And if Microsoft cuts 2020 adrift the community will probably keep it alive.
@bluebirdsim
@bluebirdsim Ай бұрын
Thanks for the response. You make some very valid points. The X box market is a huge part of the community now. However it also depends on the developer and what market they are aiming for. We are aiming for the PC users with the features and depth of the 757/767. However, we will still make an X-box version for both planes but with certain features removed because they are not supported. Some devs can only run on the PC. In the long run, I really want FS2024 to succeed for both PC and console users.

Yeah. Tried it, I was a bit disappointed because they said it would be faster than 2020 due to it being lighter. I guess they only catered this to people who use Elon Musk's internet connection.

My honest opinion. It's utterly pathetic. So many bugs it will be a year before they get to them all. All the simps on the forums trying to make excuses for Asobo. I got a refund and then I switched to Game Pass for $1 for 14 days after which I will cancel Game Pass. And no, the servers aren't fixed. New reports today of blurry terrain and missing buildings and long load times.
