Get a separate backup generator for each of the larger units, the kind that will come on automatically, like 1 for the pond at the Aviary, 1 for otters, another for fish room etc.!

It's just a power surge but the power from the line is 30,000 volts so they have big transformers on the poles to regulate the power to the homes. They probably bypassed one sending a big surge to your property.

The immaturity of the ranch never ceases to amaze me- should of bought a generator years ago just in case you do loose power from a storm or power company screwing around... I lost over 20 grand in fish because of the power company screwing me up and you always buy extra pumps just in case one goes out in the middle of night or on a weekend when you cant just overnight one. Always have back ups on hand. It's just a smart investment to cover your butt.

You're missing all the Blackouts in South Africa, 2 hour blackouts at least 3 times a day everyday and on a bad day its 4 hour blackouts in between!

Sounds like they sent 240 volts to your 120 volt appliances. your electrical panel has two phases(two 120 volt hot wires, one neutral). Roughly half your property is fed by one phase. Other half is fed by the second phase. One of the phases received 240 volts which burned up appliances/ motors being fed off that phase. That's just a guess

Sounds like a huge power surge. I would think about installing a Generac generator so when power go out it will kick on automatically.

You should have a built in serge protector before it goes anywhere past your breaker boxes. It was a big serge that killed everything. Fix it. It can ruin your entire electrical system and shit catches fire!

Please keep them once they are born, this will get you the ability to really train them such as target training. This will allow you once another opportunity to raise an otter.
