MY PAINTED COUCH UPDATE! [IS IT WORTH IT?]

Interested in painting Upholstery using regular paint?? Finally sharing a 2 year couch update! This video has been requested by so many of you! Thank you for patiently waiting.. I know this took me way longer than it should have. In this video I'm answering questions and concerns you might have jumping into painting your own couch. This couch painting technique works best on microfiber or faux suede furniture. You can easily give old furniture an anthropologie look or a west elm look like I was going for. It's perfect for thrift store makeovers or upcycles.
Sharing all the deets on how it held up and whether or not I would do it again😬.

For other fabrics you need to wet the fabric well while painting... also sand between painting for a softer finish

Just a note: to get chalkboard marker off a chalkboard, use comet. Yep, Comet ( the powder stuff). Just wet a sponge, sprinkle comet on it so that it’s a little wet. Then, just scrub a bit on the marker, chalk…. It comes off quickly. Then, rinse the sponge, wipe off residue and let the kiddos at it again. 👍🏻

This works wonders on smooth fabric. You can use darker shades of brown around the parts of a leather chair that wouldn't be lighten from wear. 2/3 paint 1/3 fabric softener. Spray water to dampen as u go along when doing 1st coat. Unnecessary 2nd coat☺

Love this! JUst found the old vid and now this one. Am tempted to use it on a bag I have where the vinyl is peeling off, exposing the fabric that is beneath it. But it looks like it might not work on fabric? I'm tempted to do this OR use Edge Kote (are you familiar with it?) which I've mainly seen used on bag edges, etc but not on larger surfaces (like bag handles, the bottom of the bag, the bag flaps). Any advice would be so appreciated!

Add 3 tablepoons to 1/2 cup paint and stir for about 15 seconds. If you're working in bigger portions: The most I would mix at a time is 1 cup of paint because the paint eventually rubberizes and is harder to apply. I think it would do great if you add a clear finish for better durability. I don't find it sticks to clothing or my faux fur blankets at all.

How much wear and tear would you say your couch gets? We are home all day and our couch gets used a LOT. I got rid of a microfiber couch because it was such a pain to clean all the time and it just looked ratty. But if I had known about this I would have tried it. Also, what brand of paint and what brand of softener did you use? I’m sure different brands probably would react slightly differently since they are all made just a little different to keep their uniqueness.

I wouldn't say our couch got used too much. It's just us and the little guy and we don't hang around the living room too much. In all honestly I think it would hold up great with heavy wear. I tried it on my couches and so far, I have had to redo one of them twice. I'm not sure why that one specifically especially since the dogs prefer to jump on it's twin-constantly, and yet that one has held up great. Oh well. I still love it and I have had so many people wanting to know how I did it. I too tried it on the couch fabric in our old camper which we have renovated...um, no. It turned out exactly as your chair did. Rough and ugly. Thank goodness for soft, snug slipcovers, right? We will be fixing or replacing that couch anyway. Your couch still looks lovely! :)

maybe try adding more softener? I would suggest trying to get the same brand paint. if you’ve already painted it with the crusty paint it might not help adding the rubberized paint over it.

I have more info about what paint I used on the blog - I can't recommend any other brand as I've never tried it with other brands. We've used the couch for a good two years and were fine around it. Didn't notice anything unsafe about it. that said I can't say it's 100% safe as I didn't have it tested in a lab for safety. please try it at your own risk.
