If the decision for the part 2 to be cancelled was in a meeting 1 week before hand, why wasn't the driver told so they could use another vehicle
@Tailspin80Ай бұрын
The page Ashley shows at 4:55 tells you to call the DVSA to check your vehicle is acceptable. As an experiment I entered the reg no of a London black cab (from. KZbin video) into the check MOT facility and sure enough it said “no details held by DVLA”. If he’d called them they would have rejected his car because they can’t ascertain MOT status.
@mattwoodford182025 күн бұрын
It is a shame because if they weren't going to let the taxi do the test, somebody else could have had that slot
@revealingreflections933824 күн бұрын
@@Tailspin80 It may tell people to call DVSA to check on acceptability of the vehicle, but if a decision to change a rule takes place in a closed meeting it would be courteous to at least let individuals who will be affected know.
@Tailspin8024 күн бұрын
@@revealingreflections9338 I’m not sure that’s the whole story. If he had called DVSA as advised they would have told him NO for the reasons I explained before. If he had done this well in advance he could have used a different car or got a regular MOT.
@revealingreflections933824 күн бұрын
@@Tailspin80 That may be true, but these days courtesy is a rare offer. If the booking was made online why wasn't the need to check with DVSA flagged as important, and why does DVSA not have access to an indication of an MOT status for taxis when that requires a higher standard? In Australia such details are always available to the licensing authority. What I read into this suggests the system in the UK needs some urgent application of common sense, which is also a rare commodity these days

Dad used to run a taxi firm in Cheshire and used to run into all sorts of issues because the cars showed no valid MOT's. I dont know why, the council don't register the car as MOT'd with the DVLA every time it has its taxi mot (called pass off where im from). would solve so many issues.
@johno4521Ай бұрын
Class 6 MOTs (PCVs) don't always appear on DVLA either for some reason. If you check the minibus I use for work it says MOT ran out in 2021 whereas I know for a fact it's current.
@doingstuffandfilmingitАй бұрын
When I was working at a garage in Cambridge we used to do Taxi MOTs, they consisted of a regular MOT, generating a regular MOT certificate that could be viewed online with the DVSA etc. Then there was a series of extra checks mandated by Cambridgeshire County council. Things like body damage over a certain size would cause you to fail the Taxi element even if you pass the MOT, tyre tread depth requirements were also higher for the taxi test than the MOT test. There were also things like no smoking signs, first aid kits and fire extinguishers that had to be present for the taxi test. The Taxi test then generated a second certificate that the drivers had to take to the council to get their licence renewed for another year. So for them to say it didn't have a DVSA approved MOT (Or whatever they said) just doesn't ring true to me, feels more like they were overbooked and wanted to quickly cancel one or two so they could all go home early for the weekend.

As a taxi driver (private hire) within Worcestershire, where we then have 5 districts governed (Worcester, Wychavon, Wyre Forest, Redditch… and Wolverhampton? Yes). Each has separate rules for a lot of things but also MOTs, and presents a massive problem for vehicle size/rules/quality which leads to cross bordering where the standard is lower, and they can work legally, although, in some cases it might be against their actual insurance policy but hey ho… but most of that is besides the point as I’m commenting in regards your MOT policy rant. Trucks (and buses?) have MOTs which are the most restrictive, and they still upload to the database as a valid MOT. Taxis and private hire vehicles are among the highest mileage vehicles on the road, and yet subject to only a yearly MOT in many areas (we have 1 MOT and Worcester requires a “check” at their approved garages after 6 months of that MOT renewal). The DVSA/DVLA should be classifying these vehicles as commercial and requiring 6 monthly MOT tests on every vehicle registered as a taxi/PHV and it should be noted on the DLVA database too that is what the vehicle was used for. But that being said, the council authority that does those Taxi MOTs should be authorised to upload to the database. Then this wouldn’t happen. An MOT is an MOT, as long as it’s valid it should be accepted. Perhaps get the PHV driver to complain about this to the authority/licensing as well, so this never happens again?

I think another really important point that needs more awareness is how to drive AROUND mini-roundabouts. I can stand at a bus stop and watch driver after driver after driver turn right straight over the middle marking, even on nice big wide mini roundabouts with loads of space to go around properly (drivers actually are WORSE on these, sometimes straight up just driving in the opposite lane). I've mentioned it to drivers and every single driver I've talked to has said "I think technically you're allowed to go over the middle" or something like that. This is not true. Highway code 188 says you MUST go around the central markings unless your vehicle is too big to do so. Mini-roundabouts are not pointless, either. Some drivers say going around them is pointless, it's just a waste of time, or even more stupidly they'll say it's more dangerous. No. They are genius. If you go AROUND the roundabout all cars are going in the same direction, meaning any collision MUST be a glancing collision. Energy will be deflected away from the cars. If you go over the middle, however, you can have a head on collision meaning all the energy of the collision is transferred directly into the cars and the people driving them. I have never seen a driver turning right at a mini roundabout actually GO AROUND it, and I keep my eye out for it, and have been looking out for it for years now and still haven't seen a single driver do it. This needs serious awareness risen. Mini roundabouts need cameras and drivers who go over should be penalised as they are straight up breaking the law. Fines and points at the very least. This causes crashes DAILY, some of them causing injuries and deaths.

I'd need black belt barristers help with this but, as I understand it, the website does state the vehicle has to have a valid MOT, now whilst Exception Certificates or "Taxi MOTs" are accepted for road use due to the stringent testing, if something specifically requires a valid MOT and it states this on the website I believe that their refusal would be valid as yes the car is road legal but it has an exemption not an MOT. Now if the exemption specifically states on it that this exemption can be used in place of a valid MOT certification then they'd have no leg to stand on

The instructor is protecting their pass rate to reduce the likelihood of a standards check. What I would like to know is if police cars and taxis are tested to a higher standard than regular vehicles, why aren't they given an MOT record against them anyway? As a happy cabbie, this popes up for me. I assume the part 2 is a type of driving test? But reading the comments a guy in Liverpool may have answered the question. But every day is a school day, the Taxi/PH inspection certificate issued by an authority is only for when the car is being used as a taxi/ph vehicle, this sounds like a cabbie is wanting to use his car for another purpose and not for work. Then the Liverpool guy who say they need the taxi inspection and an MOT is correct as if you check the taxi/PH insurance it won’t be covered for personal use unless it has an MOT. So the DVSA who run the MOT know. So the guy may have had a lucky escape as if he was stopped by plod and he did not have a fare on board his insurance would be void, then points and fine etc! So why his authority he is licences too did not make it clear I would check with them first to see. I appreciate your rant but it does say cars more than 3 years old need an MOT and insurance for the test ( they even advise to check with the insurance company) But I still can’t work out why when he had the taxi inspection he did not get an MOT at the same time? As most reputable council partner garages give it as well then you have never got an issue.

If the car is required to have a valid MOT, presumably that excludes MOT-exempt cars - i.e. those more than 40 years old. Which seems a bit weird. After all, it is clearly stated that the MOT does not provide any sort of guarantee that the car is roadworthy, that's still on the owner at all times.

It's seemingly random. A Canadian quad bike mechanic I've been watching had the same thing happen the other day. His video only had something like German and Spanish when it first showed up - the original audio track wasn't there at all. Sometimes I feel like KZbin doesn't test stuff before they throw it live.

Nurburgring, yeah on your bike I can see people saying 😂 maybe something without the safety features we see nowadays an old fiesta corsa or clio with a dodgy bonnet

Holy cow, it's got no valid MOT but it has the higher grade Taxi MOT thet still means it has a valid MOT whatever way you want to cut the cake so lodge an appeal and give him an emergency part two test. Failing that take them to court/tribunal.

Towing a trailer the do and don't license you need and how to attach a trailer safely would be a great video,all the videos I see are from America, keep up the good work Ashley I like the KZbin Videos you do.

Why do I feel like The DVSA has refused the taxi because the computer says no. There should be no right to refuse a roadworthy vehicle from a test, just because they don't have a box for private hire vehicles or different testing.

I do enjoy the 'Drive like Ashley's sitting in the passenger seat.' videos. 😂 Edit to add: I heard dulcet Scouse throughout. Pas de frainçais.

When you stream make sure that you’re not driving in the pouring rain when staring at chat. I know you won’t, but I’m sure you’ve seen the story of the muppet who did.

I don't understand their issue here. Are the Taxi MOT's not issued by the DVLA? Also, I'm curious what legislation they use to justify this closed door decision and why they wouldn't have put out a memo to all involved parties.
@paulnicholson640329 күн бұрын
Disgusting treatment by the test centre. If they had a meeting and said the Taxi wasn't suitable for the test. Surely if they had the meeting more than a week before and made the decision to have immediate effect, surely they could have let the candidate know and have a week or so to find, use, and get comfortable with a vehicle that they would accept for test purposes. They should get a free retest and granted as many weeks or months it takes to get the retest completed as a grace period added to the two years qualification period.

Black Friday is a scam IMO. I work at Amazon and they do the same. Increase prices, and then put a fake crossed out price to make you think it's a good deal when the item can b found cheaper either elsewhere, or outside Black Friday. They use it as an excuse to get rid of all the Amazon tech that people use once and then stuff in the "junk drawer" 😆

If the descion was taken a week in advance, why not tell your candidate? So as to allow him to get his car an ordinary MOT or find another car in which to take the test?

You ask if there would be something we'd like to see you do in the next 12 months. My answer (from Italy): ok for the Nurburgring (I suppose, as a «How to drive like a driving instructor» series video). But, why don't you come to Italy and have a drive, say, on the Tangenziale Ovest (Milano), or the Grande Raccordo Anulare (Roma)? Again, as a «How to drive like a driving instructor» video, with that mindset, and see what happens... 🤔 As usual, my warmest congratulations for your videos and the channel. Despite the fact that I've been driving since 1982, and I have a driving licence since 1985, I've learnt so much from studying and applying your "driving philosophy", that often, when I'm behind the wheel of a car, I have the impression that «Ashley is on the passenger's seat, and he's nodding...» 😂😂

if they made a change to the testing criteria...why in the hell are they not disclosing that. extremely unfair to both the examinee and instructor
