Great vid as always! Which one would you recommend for a home practice setup that would take pedals well: a Marshal DSL1HR Head + 12" Cabinet, a Marshal Origin 20C combo or a Harley Benton Tube15?

Great pedalboard rundown! Is there anyone who doesn't tune by ear? Tune by ear ought to be the very first lesson in guitar technique for every player. Even using tuners* we could still use the 12th and 7th fret harmonics method to test, assuming the guitar is correctly intonated, but you have to have the ear to do it, and practice makes perfect. (* One can also use "A" tuning fork to get started and use harmonics to fine tune.)

I simplified getting my sound. I formed a trio :-) On the other hand, there is no where to hide. If I take even a moment for an adjustment that's too long. Live I made it simple by going crazy. I use 4 boards wired into one switcher. I typically use a different sound at a different level for intro to verse then chorus, mid 8 , solo etc. I use a total of 70 mostly analog pedals. Between tunes I quickly turn on or off what I want. I do not reset pedals. Each pedal is set to that one sound it is killer at doing. It may sound nuts but I can smoothly, and easily make precise dynamic and even dramatic changes at the click of one of 4 switches. I can go from a extreme high gain sound to flat picking a clean sound with etheral ambient vibe followed by a convincing Bach Toccata Organ part. The idea is to get a the sound of a Post produced recording but live. because without a keyboards to vary the timbre I use pedals in creative ways. I do have to put hours and hours in to pull it off, but after 4 years and usually 4 hours a rehearsal a day I can do it and I am improving so that if I think of anything. I can know make it happen.

My board is pretty much the same setup except I use a chorus in my loop. With a vibe, the chorus gives me really close Zakk lead sounds. I’m also using an eq as a boost instead of a conventional boost or ts.

How did I miss this video. I am trying to catch up with your vids. Man, I a plug and play and use as possible in everything I do anymore, but too each his own. I keep wanting to try a multi effects that has good delays and reverbs and overdrives and it seems like I can't really find one that does what I want at a reasonable price. Also, the style of music I play is pretty simple and plug into an amp and go. I try to get my gain from the amp as much as possible and just turn down using the volume knob. I do like the SD1 to boost with. I was using a clean boost by MXR lp1 thing. It colored my tone too much. The wah is the same as yours. Love that wah. I've been using 9 volt batteries because they don't insert noise. 🤘♥️🤘 I may have to get a Stryman. What a great sounding overdrive! ♥️🤘♥️ I used to have the DOD Yngwie mallmsteen thing and it was great. It was a grey box I think. I think it was lost or broke. 😂 That volume thing in the loop is just turning down the power amp volume. That's good though because it's the power amp that just magnifies volume of the preamp tone which is where you get your distortion from, etc. It is hard trying to get the tone you want. I laughed hard about the sound man not paying attention. I helped a really really good guitarists in Indianapolis one time because the soundman was gone sick and so he had me run the board. Being a guitarists I kinda made sure the guitar really stood out. 😂. The talking to a good looking girl comment though made me laugh so hard. I've seen that many times. 😂 Great video my friend. 🤘♥️🤘

Have you tried some of the new Mukti effects guitar processors? After a lifetime of insisting on the tones that I can get out of my fingers and a good amplifier, the Nux MG400 has decided to make me try out the 'modern way'. Actually, it's the Zoom G3n which turned me on to digital guitar effects/processors. I guess a real set of pedals is always going to be better and more realistic than their digital cousins but when there are other things like finance to consider then the 'modern digital way' can become an acceptable way of playing the instrument we love so much. That being said no digital wah is ever gonna replace my Crybaby wah wah 😊

Vibe before Fuzzes and OD feels kinda odd for me, but if it works then it works. Do you run the Riverside with the Buffer on? As for the volume boost for solos i totally agree. It sometimes just seems totally unprofessional if the lead player doesn't have a 3-6db boost. I've used DIY Volume-Boxes, like the one you have but just with a switch, to get the "negative boost" effect, but nowadays I really like graphic EQs, since you can boost overall and also raise the mids a bit more to really cut through.
@RJW143 жыл бұрын
Your shirt shows you to be a man of culture. 👌 Is your politune one with the buffer or before they had the buffer? Someone else that uses a distortion box as the heart of the pedal setup. I use a ZVex box of rock for that. I have a voodoo lab pedal power 2 + to power my toys, I want the yellow Morley Wah+volume, but that isn't allowed into the EU because the pot contains cadium 😢 For reverb I have an Astronomer v2 by Matthews FX. It's an ambient box but if you turn down the size and decay there are 3 or 4 always on sounds in there as well. I got it to a small room reverb that just adds that tiny little bit. And on the 2nd button of that box I have basically the biggest spaceous echoverb it can do. 😏

What would be a good Yngwie OD-pedal besides Riverside and the ones Yngwie have been using? MXT Dist+ ? Also: does the pot impedance matter for the volume pot in the effects loop? When I try my Earnie Ball Jr. in the fx loop of my 1987x it sounds like crap.... Don't know why.
@MrPolevaulter2 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the impedance. I liked the MXR Timmy. Also not sure about the Yngwie pedals. Been a while since I've done pedal videos, and I seem to have forgotten. Strymon Sunset is good. MXR Timmy, Boss SD-1 is pretty good.

Hola, mi Amigo! I’ve done a ton of experimenting with effects pedal orders, and was just curious what made you come to the decision of placing a modulation pedal (the Uni-Vibe) in what appears to be the beginning of your line-in chain? Conventional wisdom (whatever that is when it comes to pedal order) would be to place modulation pedals last, or in the effects loop. Also, one more little thing: Which wireless system do you use?
@Icnlst2 жыл бұрын
Hello! From my experience, I can say that putting the modulations (flanger and phaser in my case) at the beginning, before the overdrives, gives you a more subtle and "eq friendly" effect (the sweep peaks of the effects do not interfere with your EQ). Putting them after (or in the loop fx) you get a more exaggerated or "in your face" effect (in my case with the Boss BF-2 flanger, putting it after, gave me a very exaggerated "whosh" effect and a noticeable increase in volume). With the chorus the thing is different, it goes very well after the od's because it is less invasive with the eq or character of the sound (it does not have a "whosh", for say something). It's a matter of personal taste, try both ways and find out which one is more appropriate for the sound you are looking for. I hope it has been helpful for you.
@cygnus-studios2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the interesting feedback, Ignacio! Using my Marshall DSL40CR amp, what I’ve found is connecting time-based/modulation pedals to the line-in jack tends to muddy up the waters with undesirable side effects such as tone coloring and signal attenuation. This is especially true if they’re placed before “dirt” pedals like distortion and OD, since everything is running directly into the pre-amp. I actually like the “in your face” capability of placing those pedals in an effects loop, plus it seems to have a big effect on overall clarity. I'm able to vary this for that entire chain via the use of an EQ/pre-amp pedal at the front. Also, in my case bypassing the pre-amp reduces line noise since I run 8 of them on my loop board, which admittedly is a bit psychotic. 😉 As you say, experimentation is always in order until you achieve your personal taste... In the end, to each his own!
@Icnlst2 жыл бұрын
@@cygnus-studios Woah! interesting, very different your experience. In the end, it depends on the rig each one has. What works for one combination of a certain amp and pedals may not necessarily work for another. Placing pedals in the chain is an art, and very abstract.
@MrPolevaulter2 жыл бұрын
To be honest I haven't really experimented too much with modulation pedals, since I don't really use them that much. As for the wireless, it's the Shure GLX thingy (I forget the exact model).
