Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! Probably the two most used things in the video are the cart and the junk drawer. I’m still running my Hammerhead Kayaks Bull Shark through its’ paces right now, and I miss the junk drawer more than anything else! There’s just not room under the Bull Shark’s seat for one. Hi, and thanks for watching! My junk drawer is probably my favorite add-on! They're easy to build, and being so easy makes it a simple matter to custom build it for just about any kayak. My brother has an Ascend FS12T, with an aftermarket seat on it...let me get Christmas and all out of the way, and I'll see about building one for his kayak and shooting video of the build.

Love the setup, my new pelican catch 100, is on the way. I only weigh 150 lbs, and I wanted a 10ft vessel. I am going to put my new 2.5 Suzuki outboard on a fitted side transom feel free makes, and a single outrigger. But you gave me many DIY ideas. I love seeing everyone's different setups. Great video.

Hi, and thanks for watching! You're going to love that Catch 100! Of all my DIY's, the junk drawer seems to get the most attention. If you figure out what all you can build with the leftover material, it's reasonably inexpensive, super easy to build, and one of the handiest accessories on my kayak. I've got a couple of irons in the fire right now that need seeing too, but then I'm going to build another junk drawer for my brother's kayak, and will video the build when I do it. His kayak is an Ascend, but the junk drawer is so easy and adaptable that it'll be real similar to mine. Stay tuned!

I love what you've done w/your Catch. I'm a bigger guy and am afraid I'd be riding VERY LOW if I were to have all that on my kayak! I only put my seat in the high position to practice flipping and getting back in. It was way to easy to flip with the seat in the high position, so I built outriggers for mine...what a difference they made. Next time I go out I'm going to try to do it with the seat in the high position. I am in the process of finishing installing a rudder on my Catch 120 now. Waiting for the foot braces w/steering pedals integrated into them. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
@DEADorALIVEkayaking
@DEADorALIVEkayaking 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the kind words, Shawn! The best kayak for you is the one that gets you on the water...I'd love outriggers, but most of the water I fish is real skinny and filled with obstructions, so they'd keep me hung up...I'd rather just stay seated while fishing, anyway! As far as the weight in the kayak, I really don't have that much! The cart and the "food cooler" both ride up forward...I haven't weighed the cart, but it's not much. The junk drawer is 6 or 8 pounds, tops, and the crate might be another 5 or 10 pounds...I'm plus or minus 205 lbs. My wife is a plus sized lady, and I teach her to get used to the high position seating on her Lifetime Yukon. I figure if you get used to the worst stability, then the best stability is just gravy! Tight lines!!

@@robs9349 I really like that it breaks down and stores in the forward hatch. It never gets forgotten or left behind, that way! About the only thing I'd do differently if I had to build it again would be to add pins through the joint where the bunks attach to the frame, just to ensure and maintain correct alignment, but I don't suffer any for not having them as it is.

@@DEADorALIVEkayaking The hatch on the Catch 100 is only 8". So strong there would not be an option for me. But being able to easily dismantle and store behind the seat would work. It's what I do now. And yours looks ameable to that mod.

Very nice clear explanation. I also want to buy one, and the tracking is the only flaw I read. The skeg is a great solution. How wide is your transport cart above where the foam is?
@DEADorALIVEkayaking
@DEADorALIVEkayaking 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for watching! I'm at work, right now, until early next month, so I can't measure to give you specific dimensions. The bottom of the Catch 120 is a tunnel hull design, and the two bunks with the foam on them were built to rest against the outboard sides of the tunnel. The footprint of the cart at the wheels is probably something around 30" or so. Hope this helps...if not, hit me again and I'll measure it when I get back home in March.

Hi, and thanks for watching! LOL...funny you should say that! At 12:01 in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGTQZ2yApp2Jm6s , I actually did take something of a dunking. The box secures into the bottom of the kayak by something similar to a hard plastic velcro, so it was in no danger of being lost, although it was pretty thoroughly flooded. The tie down for the seat can still be used on the aft crossbar of the seat, so it stays onboard, but can flip up backwards! Stay safe!

How did you mount the removable rudder?
@DEADorALIVEkayaking
@DEADorALIVEkayaking 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! It's not a rudder, it's just a skeg. The skeg is removable, and the mount for it is permanently attached. I centered it on the underside of the kayak, marked the outline of the mount, and scuffed the surface of the kayak and the mount with coarse sandpaper. Then I applied Marine Goop to both surfaces and placed the mount back within the marks I'd made, and set a heavy weight (I used a car battery) on it until the adhesive was set and cured. This is the skeg I installed... www.amazon.com/Kayak-Tracking-Mounting-Points-Watershed/dp/B00X26NAB0/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=kayak+skeg&qid=1589603162&sr=8-1

@DEADorALIVEkayaking
@DEADorALIVEkayaking 4 жыл бұрын
@@chipwent2867 Hi, and thanks for watching! The skeg is a game changer, but with a caveat...Most of the waters I paddle are small South Alabama rivers. The skeg doesn't help in the currents much, but then again nothing really would...currents are constantly changing direction with the flow of the river, buffering off one bank, then the other, etc. Plus, most of these rivers are too shallow for it anyway. BUT, in deeper, stiller waters, it makes a TON of difference! In a reply above, I listed a link to the skeg I used, and here's a link to the video I used as my guide in installing it... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHernGCbjreZjNk
