So awesome also doing the on the ledge pot propagation, the polybotrya is such an easy peperomia to grow and also propagate for me the Ginny has been one I have struggled with for a bit, the Rosso was not one of my favourite either to begin with but it has been a massively prolific grower for me. I am like you love the fact that they are winter growers. Thanks again for this video after my crappy day today this was the silver lining I needed 🙏🏻. Great video. What about a Peperomia verticillata (Red Log)? Is it best to trim them or just let them grow as they may? I try to remember to turn the pot often as it grows up towards the sun. What do you do though if it starts drooping? Thanks for any advice!

I really enjoyed your vid + Nick shout out. I know he loves the peps. I saw many in your video that I now want. Oooh I covet so many of them. The propagation looks fascinating. Am trying to prop an eden rosso at the moment. Here is my pep ramble. The good Graveolens - on window sill with succulents. No probs. Good plant - pretty. Grows up and out. Polybotrya - Had for a month. On window sill. So far so good. Seems to be in coconut coir or something. Too scared to repot. Caperata green/red + Moonlight. All really easy and stunning Jellie - no probs - hasn't grown a lot. Scandens - the variegated one just fab. I have it is high light as I thought it was a succulent. Has grown well, but thinking of moving it to medium after your vid since it can take it. The green one is good too. Diamond - (on label) no idea if this is a puteolata or what. Gorgeous whatever it is. Had two weeks only, but it's growing. Prostrata - turtles - Only had for a couple of months. It's growing, but not as fast as string of hearts. Looks delicate to me, but a fascinating plant. I also have a piper I really like. Drinks a lot more water than peperomia. Took me a while to figure out the light situations, but now it's going gangbusters. The not-so good. Rosso - I love the look of it and the textured leaves. Shallow roots. Mine died from root rot, as it was sold in a massive wet plastic pot. Have another now - doing OK in clay, but not red underneath (different type?) Piccolo banda - It didn't like low light like the label said and died back a bit. Put in kitchen and it's growing back. Like Rosso, find the leaves (stalks) too tender/prone to rot. Don't have high hopes. Columella - the most fascinating leaves. Succulent. Killed it in a week or two. It was my first pep. Have never see one since. If anyone got to the end of this - I commend you. It was Pam's enthusiasm (and research) that made me do it.

I love peperomia!! My Ruby Cascade has the same on the older leaves, but it's def not from too much light. It gets mostly indirect light w/ about an hour of dappled sunlight. So I thought I had the Pep Hope but the stems are red so now I'm not sure. Finally, my variegated obtusifolia, which sat in an east window all summer and grew like crazy, lost most of its variegation w/ the season change. I moved it closer to a south window so it gets more light and it's now in bloom! Do you think the variegation will come back? The new growth so far has been green. Maybe it's some weird hybrid because the root system is huge and it's growth is now slowing, LOL!

I have the Peperomia Ginny, it was a rescue from Walmart, it looked really sad but now it's got lots of new leaves and is growing great, love this plant. The Russo is another one on my wish list. Love the Peperomia scandens both the variegated and the green, both on my wish list. I also have the Obtusifolia, such a beautiful deep green, I love mine so much. OMG love that Peperomia quadrangularis, I can only hope that my Home Depot gets some of these or even Lowe's. Thanks so much Pam for sharing a great video, I hope you have an awesome weekend, love you girl, bye for now.

Great vid and much appreciated because there's so much out there about these babies that seems confusing. My Peperomia obtusifolia acts totally different from my Caperata. For one, it bushes all over the place LOVES rootbound. It seems to enjoy water from the bottom and not from the top. Obtusifolia trails off like a vine and I have trouble keeping it upright. It's already tipped over twice since June. It also prefers drier conditions than the Caperata and it didn't take well to bottom watering. Weird, huh? I love the fact that you mentioned artificial light because both mine 💚 their grow lights. And I've never once tried to propagate them because I'm way too skeered to even think about that. 😩
@PamsPrettyPlants
@PamsPrettyPlants 4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha I promise the propagating is easy! The caperata might have not liked the bottom watering because the roots are so shallow they’re up closer to the top than the bottom. I find the caperata to be fussier than they’re made out to be!

Greart video! You mentioned that peperomias are actively growing in the winter months. I am wondering if you fertilize them then, if at all?
@PamsPrettyPlants

Yes! I’m somewhat new to this info but my pal whose more of an expert told me a very diluted fertilizer once a month in the growing season should do. Peps do better without an over abundance of nutrients.

@@PamsPrettyPlants LOL totally here too and I am being pulled to go buy more. I need a plant fix after the two week computer wreck I have just been through. All due to internet providers settings in my router and them refusing to help. BIG time oh so so sorry. Has left me mentally exhausted. I think this requires more plants. HA But do I just drive 44 miles or go the full on 90 miles?? Will walmart or home depot have enough plants to choose from or has it all gone to Christmas??? I think i see a couple empty spaces on my shelves I can add a plant or three. Hahahaha as always I so enjoy your videos. Thank you!

@@PamsPrettyPlants HOLY COW!!!! Wish I could do a plant haul video. No equipment or know how to do so. I went crazy in town. Local grocery no plants I could afford. Went next door and a whole rack of 6.99 6 inch and 2.99 4 inch plants. I now have four Peperomia. A Ginny and Obtusifolia Variegated and Pixie Lime Variegated. Can not find my other one right now to name it. Hahahah Imagine that. Also bought a Teddy Bear vine plant, need to look that up. It is a gorgeous kind of chocolate color fuzzy leaves and hanging which is good I have room for hanging. Also a Sweedish Ivy, hanging. And a Marbel Queen Pathos. I did not have one and Love them. Then Syngonium white Butterfly. I bought two of the 2.99 of them and will plant in the same larger pot. Same for the two Hawaiian Pathos. They looked sad but I already watered them. eaves on them the size of my hand. All for a $50.00 bill with change back. I am sure this will be the last time I will be able to find and buy plants until spring. Probably a good thing. Hahahaha No saucers or cover pots on the hanging plants so need to take them to the sink. No biggie. Also found three lovely cigar boxes to do some wood burning on for my ,whispering, witchie stuff.

Anyone ever propagate ruby cascade? I've been pretty successful propping every other peperomia I've gotten but this one has been a challenge. I tried burying it horizontally under a thin layer of soil, and sticking it in a moist sphagnum chamber and haven't had success with either method so far.

I just saw a show on helping to give an R value to Windows and that's getting bubble wrap wedding the window with a spray bottle that has a drop or two of dish detergent in it and a drop or two of bleach spray the window and attach the bubble side of the bubble wrap to the window the wet window. Another site said to put the flat side against the window that won't stop drafts that you need tape or something if it's coming through the cracks. I guess if you have clean bubble wrap that's come in packages you could use them. But the video said that it's cheap enough at Walmart I'm going to try it especially the windows in my bedroom I try to let in light but it might have to make sure they're closed so no one sees me and my bedroom. That would give me some protection if I forget to close the drapes

Hi Pam Since peperomias are winter growers, do you fertilise them fall-winter too? This will be my first winter with mine (apart from one obtusifolia which I've had for years not knowing what is was) so I'm wondering if I should start fertilising them. I assume fall would also be the best time to take cuttings too?
@PamsPrettyPlants
@PamsPrettyPlants 4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I meant to talk about this in the video but I’m going to spring a video idea on my friend about exactly this instead, he doesn’t know it yet. His preference is to use a very slow release fertilizer in the early autumn so it’s there if they need it. He said a diluted monthly application would be good too.

Whoa, lots of new info for me right here! Thanks a bunch! I had no idea their growing season is now! :o So cool! I guess earth is not flat after all and there are plenty of different climates at different times of year..... xD But! You got me bit worried with the cold and draft sensitivity... I have two of them. verticillata, and caperata rosso. Ive been keeping verticillata right on the window sill since start of August. Southeastern window! It didnt complain during summer. i thought id avoid the legginess in that way. And i did! No burnt leafs too. But now its Autumn here, and temperature is about 5°C (40K) but it will probably drop down to minus (20K) so... ive been wondering will it bother them? to stand next to glass? sigh... im kinda out of space. My windows are pretty new, and no drafts, but you still feel the cold radiating from the window surface. hALp! my african violets are also there. xD

Mine definitely don’t love touching or being right against cold glass. I’m having the same space issue!! I’d try and put a thermometer there and see what the temp is over the day and night. If it stays above 50 F you’d prob be ok!
