Tips for newbies with menstrual cups: Practice before your period. Depending on your period symptoms during your period you might get really irritated, or in a lot of pain, and etc, so practice when you're not on your period! You'll get the hang of it a bit easier and I wished I knew this but if you don't have time try to do it on a day where you know you'll be at home. Also for those who may or may not identify as a woman, THINX has some underwear for trans men and nonbinary folk and just people who prefer to wear men's type underwear (like me!) if you can't use a menstrual cup for whatever reason since reuseable pads might not fit. Also they're useful if you have vaginismus or other ailments. Last point (I swear!) is that if you need resources/brand size comparisons the livejournal Menstrual-Cups is a fantastic resource and if you have questions that you're embarrassed to ask you can ask on there.

Of course! Trans men and nonbinary people should always be these conversations when talking about menstruation, because their health is also important! I also forgot to mention that Lunapads also offers underwear for people who menstruate and prefer male style underwear as well. I know some people have issues with THINX because their former CEO was very toxic (sexual assault and similar allegations in their workplace).

I have used a cup for ages, love it! If you are trying it before you are bleeding you can smear the cup with some kind of lubrication (coconut oil if if you don't have of any other) if you are dry and finds it difficult to get it in or are very sensitive (having vestibulitis for example) . Also be beware that the vagina 'opens up more' I don't know the medical term for it, when you are bleeding, making it easier with inserting the cup and also taking it out. Best of luck!

I want to thank you for watching this video, it shows that your not an immature guy and are big about things, cause your willing to watch something that normally freaks men out. I know that probably seems random to thank you for it, but its nice to see men who aren't immature about it and have taken the time out to educate themselves on the subject. XD

little tip from someone who’s been using cloth pads for 2 years- invest in dark coloured pads, mine are black so you can’t see staining at all & my partner is less inclined to whine about them being in the washing basket if he can’t actually see stains! also, it’s worth mentioning that if you’re a sufferer of cystitis, reusable pads are a life saver. the plastic backed disposable ones cause much more sweating than breathable cotton ergo are much less likely to leave you with post-period cystitis.

Alex N I feel the same about tampons. And would prefer to use pads rather than tampons or a cup- just don’t like the mess. What cloth pads do you use? Did you make them yourself or what brand are they? And have you had any issues with leaks? Thanks!!

I just discovered your channel, and I would like to let you know you have inspired me to try to go waste-free. I've been vegan for a while now but I eat pre-packaged granola, rice and lentils packaged in plastic, use tampons, and all sorts of other things that are hurting the planet. I'm a college student so I don't have lots of time, but I'm going to begin with my eating habits. I'm going to make my own granola with oats that aren't packaged in plastic! Plus I'm going to buy a reusable Diva cup! Thanks for the inspiration!

I've heard okayish reviews about the diva cup, so i really recommend you research your cups and related things to get the right one because Ive heard that it's a bit long, which can be a problem if you have a low cervix. Also, cups arent the cheapest, so buying the wrong cup means buying more. So good luck on your future cup :)

A downside to cups is that when I need to go do a #2, I’ll have to take it out or else it’ll want to come out with my business (sorry tmi). Ido love when I can use my menstruel cup but sometimes though I have worse cramps with it in me, and sometimes it makes me feel like I need to go take a dump again or pee. Sometimes I just can’t get it to the right position or place. My hands are really petite too so my fingers have a hard time trying to position the cup when I’m there. I might have a low cervix but honestly, even though I sound dumb, idk how high my cervix is. I don’t want to risk trying too many different shapes and styles of cups cause it’ll hurt my wallet lol. However, I do love the menstrual pads. They are awesome and comfty. It’s just annoying when they don’t stay in place on my underwear. Or the stains become stubborn. I have ones with stains still and it don’t bother everyone but mines bothers me. I’ll still continue to use these though because it’s much better than disposables.

Great video! I've had a menstrual cup for over 3 years, before that I thought they were disgusting, but now I think regular pads and tampons are the most disgusting... I mean, reusable cups and pads can easily be cleaned but disposable stuff will stay dirty forever! I'm also thinking about getting some cloth pads, but for now I'm loving my menstrual cup :)

I really love my reusable pads (I got them on Etsy) and my diva cup is the best thing ever :) I use the pads when Im home and the cup when Im out. also no stains on my pads since I got them :). I wash them first by hand with cold water so the blood doesn't stain and then I put them in the washer with cold water too, never wash them with hot water. I made my own reusable daily pads also. My pads not cotton plain fabric but another one that I forgot the name but they stain less than the plain fabric (so far no stains) :P, the store on etsy is called cosyfolk cozyfolk.com/collections/cloth-pads/products/petite-cloth-menstrual-pad Also she claims the pads are vegan

I use the Lena cup, and I make all my own cloth pads and cloth wipes for in the washroom. I prefer a knit top. I dry store, then soak in oxi-clean then shove in the wash. No stains at all in over a year. But, the purple and blue cotton woven topped pads seem to bleach out. So the purple is lighter..

I have a Ruby cup and I also use some reusable pantyliners I purchased off of an ebayer who makes her own. I have been completely hooked ever since. I will not go back to normal tampons and pads. My body is so much more comfortable with reusables. I used to suffer so bad with dryness and itching every month when I had my period - because of the nasties in disposables! Not anymore!!!! Love this video

I've got pads from Etsy, and a diva cup. This will sound weird but I actually like using the diva cup, as it just works so much better. Another advantage is that I can have the convenience of a tampon, without the worry of getting the absorbency correct. These really are a game changer and I had to tell all my female friends because reusable sanitary wear is so much better in terms of comfort, and for the planet.

oh also of the cloth pads there are soo many different types! There are all sizes and shapes you could imagine and tbh it depends on the person. Also some are made of different fabrics so like it's better to research a little before buying cause it can depend on the person uk I mean if you use a cup you don't need to worry about that just use a pantyliner, but if you are gonna get them to use only them for ur period you should like more into it :-)

Sadly I cannot use the cup you have due to a low cervix, I can get away with a Fleur or iris cup sometimes but mostly it's painfull. It's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you determine your cervix hight before purchasing a cup. When it comes to cloth pads I am just wwwaaaaayyyy to heavy to use them. I soak a heavy overnight in 2-3 hours. I once tried to measure the amount I bled, the measured amount was about 120 and doesn't count the few over night disposables I used (day and night) I wish I could just use a cup and cloth, but it's just not possible. :( The attitude though

I love my menstrual cup! I’ve been using it for over 6mo now and I just can’t believe I’ve gone 10 years with a period not using a cup. But! I do have SO many questions about washable panty liners! What materials are the best/won’t get ruined? What’s better- having a wingless liner or having a little button snap (like does the button snap get uncomfortable while sitting or whatever?) What materials feel the best & not yucky? Are there options for wearing cheeky or thong shaped underwear? Are there night time options? I’ve looked on Etsy to support a small business but there are LOTS of options out there and this is a topic that is DEF not talked about enough so I don’t even know what to do here and washable liners are something I definitely NEED during my menstrual cycle. Anyone’s suggestions or advice is encouraged & I appreciate it!

I've switched to reusable pads since June or July. Although I got them from WISH (I'm frugal), they are SUPER absorbent (seriously, I wore one for an entire day one time and it never leaked, but I have a normal kind of flow) and arrived in a pack of 6 with 2 wet bags. My first time cleaning them was awkward, but I got used to it and I only clean them thoroughly every month (no big deal). And I highly recommend them to anyone who is a bit intimidated by or does not want to use a menstrual cup

I have been using cloth pads for almost a year now and I really like them. I have considered getting a cup but I have always used pads so I am not certain if I ever will. May when my kids are both in school and I rejoin the paid workforce I may. I still have my 'old' disposable ones. i keep one in my purse and one in my diaper bag so if I am out and about and start unexpectedly I have something, or if someone else needs one. I will also take them with me on vacation because I always seem to start (or end) on vacation and having damp pads to transport back home to wash is not my idea of fun. (We also cloth diaper and when on vacation we use disposable as well then.) And one thing I have noticed since I stopped using bleached plastic is that my flows tend to be lighter and I get less crampy during the bleeding part of my cycle. I am not going to lie, rinsing pads is not fun. But hey, I cloth diaper and cleaning out blood is less gross than cleaning up poop.

I don't know why periods are such a taboo subject. One tip i would have would be - trim the stem! I felt a bit weird at first but then i trimmed the stem and it was way more comfortable.

I have the implant I get periods every 3 months just faint for one or two days. I get a really bad one every 6 months. If you think about it the implant is not healthy for your body at all and does do damage, my sister in law had hers taken out 5 years ago and still doesn't get her period and now has fertility problems as she had it in when she was 17 and it messed with all her hormones my friend also took her 4 years to conceive after having hers taken out. I've had kids so if my cycle stops it's no big deal I just thought I'd tell you incase you wanted kids in future. I've spoken to my doctor about it before and she said 1 in 5 women have problems with their cycle afterwards just something to be conscious of :)

Thank you for this video. I'm using a moon cup which I absolutely love. Regarding pads I tried several brands and I noticed some differences. E.g. there are different lenghts and thicknesses and some brands have simple cotton layers or an added leakproof inner layer. And some are made from other fabrics than cotton that might feel uncomfortable. So you need to pay attention to that. My favourite pads are the organic cotton ones from "Blümchen". Unfortunately they come in a thin plastic packaging.

Cold water & ivory bar soap works wonders for cleaning liners- any suggestions on how to clean/maintain a nast-stained diva cup (#tmi..)? Cold h2o & soap has never worked & can't afford any pricey washes

Shannon Elyssa for my moon cup it works if I clean it in cold water, then I sanitize it in a small pot of boiling water with a bit of bicarbonate soda for about 5-15 min. And because the water is kinda chalky where I live I wash it with cold or warm water and soap afterwards. I only have mine for about 4 months now but it looks quite clear and I don't want to buy those expensive wipes and washes. A little tip if you boil it: put it inside a whisk so it won't stick to the pot (dunno if that actually can happen but I don't want to ruin my mooncup). Hope this helps.

A couple of months ago, I decided I wanted to start using a menstrual cup. All good, at first it was a bit hard to get used to it, but a couple of months later, it was good. At first, it leaked and then, it didnt anymore. The thing is, lately, Ive been feeling really weird during my periods. I mean, a lot of abdominal pain, like puffy or bloated all the time, and with the menstrual cup, everything feels just worse. I love the concept, I love the fact that its vegan, non waste and good for the environment and our bodies, but I have to confess I used a traditional pad last month, last day of my menstrual cycle. I couldnt bare it, and I felt better after switching. Next month, Im gonna give the menstrual cup another try (the more, the better I guess) and analyze how it makes me feel, how my body feels and just listen to it. I wanna be conscious about this, make a difference, but I also feel its really important to not try to be all perfect about this. I still have my menstrual cup and Im still planning to use it, but would love some feedback on this if any of you girls have experienced something similar. Not blaming the menstrual cup or anything, just sharing my experience and what happened to me personally. Help.

Thank you for the video! I'm looking into menstrual cups and reusable pads as I am really making an effort to reduce my waste. The only thing that I am worried about is wearing the cup when I go to the gym. I feel more hopeful now that you said you do a lot of weightlifting and you feel secure with the cup. Can I just ask to what extent you do weightlifting (heavy squats, deadlifts etc..)? :)

I actually do crossfit! So lots of high intensity running, heavy olympic lifts like clean and jerks, handstands, rowing, deadlifts etc and I am always fine. I do wear a reusable pad on my first few days with my cup but thats because I have quite a heavy flow! xx

I bought a diva cup and was very excited about using it but unfortunately insertion was too painful and I could not get it far enough in or to a place where I felt comfortable wearing it for more than a couple of minutes. Did you have problems with painful insertion? I don't think I was doing anything wrong. It could be something with my body but I really want to make an effort to figure this out so I can actually stop using tampons.

I bought and tried the mooncup in the bigger size as I've had kids but it is huge. However many hacks I've tried and whatever the position I cannot get it to sit inside me comfortably. Plus I have a super heavy periods (literally a night pad an hour) so I don't know that the cup would work for me even if I tried another brand.

I really wish I liked my diva cup. I got the small size but unfortunately it’s painful while in. Inserting or taking it out wasn’t painful just while inside. It’s almost like my cervix is swollen and it’s just painful. I can’t even have Sex while on my period cause it hurts. I have talked to my doctor and she says that it’s not uncommon. I would like to try a different type of cup but have no idea which one to try.

The problem with the cup is 1) that blood needs to come out and drain. You can get an infection from keeping it all in and only draining for a few seconds in the toilet. 2) I can't use those in a public bathroom. Imagine pulling it out having to rinse it out in public and having to put it back in all the while not leaking. Those are concerns I've had.

tammystiletto you can't get an infection if you clean it properly. It's actually more sanitary than a tampon. Also, they hold a lot. I've never had to change it in public and I have a very heavy flow.

Tbh the act of keeping the blood up inside can cause toxic shock and yeast infections. My mom can get toxic shock within the hour and I’ve been warned to be extra careful as well. That’s why I’m concerned.
@samsam1594

Of what I know the problem with tampons and the toxic shock syndrom ist that the bacteria can also come from outside because the tampon is air permeable. The menstruation cup is not. You certainly have to get sure to clean it very well before you use it. If you know better, tell me. That's just what I read :)

If you don't want to use cloth pads or menstrual cups - there are biodegradable pads and liners to buy instead of regular, non-biodegradable ones. Less eco-friendly than reusable pads and cups, but more eco-friendly than regular pads and tampons. ❤

Thanks for this video! Have you heard/do you know if that brand of cup is better than the Diva Cup. I’ve been using the Diva Cup on and off for a decade but sometimes it feels uncomfortable and too big. I’m wondering if I should switch to Lunette... also, I have a question about the reusable pads... a lot of reviews online say they slip and slide without adhesive like regular pads. What’s your take on that?

The pads are amazing. I have bought a menstrual cup on my last period but didnt quite get to use it properly and so I had to use tampons and pads, especially the last days of my period I use pads because I my period is really small and tampons hurt when I use them. How do you clean them though? Because blood doenst wash out so well when it dries. Nicola p.s: Totally gonna clean out my closet and room again tomorrow I got so many things I have and do not want and it makes me crazy. What do you do with things you dont want to keep but dont use like old things from your childhood? Cause I got many of those but dont want to throw them out.

Heat!! When i have period pain wearing warm, comfy trousers is heavenly (i have thermoleggings for skiing which are the bomb but really just anything that'll keep your legs warm will do :)). Another thing to do is fill up a water bottle with hot water and keep it in your lap or between your thighs or on your back, depending where you feel pain (heatpads are also a thing but ive never used them)

I just recently bought a menstrual cup (the diva cup brand) and the first time I tried to use it, it was not very pleasant 🙃 is the stem of the cup supposed to stick out or is it supposed to go all the way? I really want to figure it out so I can stop using disposable products.
