I want to go to Southampton Uni and am working on my personal statement and man, this is insanely good. I hope my doesn't have to be this good because I'm screwed if so

Do you think I could have one personal statement that I can apply to universities for both accounting and finance and economics, like one common personal statement for both subjects or would I need to focus on just one path ie. either accounting and finance or economics? because im looking to become an M&A analyst and I saw that it is career path that is common for both economics and accounting and finance at universities like Warwick and Kings. thanks

Should be fine to have one

Definitely! I was at an assessment centre with someone who had applied to Oxford for Economics and Management & to multiple unis for Accounting and Finance. Just make sure you don’t specifically say “this is why I want to apply to economics” etc 😊

Hi, what is a better course to pursue a career in financial services. Accounting and Finance or Management with finance both at Warwick???
@BeccaandSoph2 жыл бұрын
Hey! I think they’re both very similar. With management, you get more choice over what subject you pick (ie you could do pretty much identical to accounting and finance) as you have more options. However accounting and finance has more ‘core’ (ie not optional) modules which give you exemptions for the accounting exams such as ACA 😊 Hope that helps!

@@BeccaandSoph Hi, just one last question I promise! As an international student I do not know what universities for British people and corporations are top in management and finance. LSE, Warwick, Manchester are right now 3/5 for my application. What two other unis would you 100% recommend that are very respected???
@BeccaandSoph2 жыл бұрын
@@siroseoane6342 Hi, I think that completely depends on personal preference! The structure of UK universities is that there are Russel Group unis (which traditionally were seen as the most highly regarded), however over the years I feel like there has been more movement with universities such as Bath increasing in status. If you’re basing solely off university (ie not subject), then my personal ranking would be: 1- Oxford / Cambridge 2- Durham / Warwick / Exeter / LSE / Kings / Imperial 3- Edinburgh / St Andrew’s / Manchester / Bristol / Leeds / Birmingham / Nottingham Although a lot of people base off subjects / location etc, in which case there are lots of websites that rank universities per subject. They’re linked and discussed in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3WbYmmFfdN0rbM Hope that helps!

Don’t worry! I always think when doing applications (jobs, uni etc) there will always be people with more and less experience than you in a variety of areas. The best tactic I’ve found is to take time to think about those areas that you excel in and make them the focal point of your discussion. I.e. for me, I didn’t do much sport in college, so decided to focus on student union/young enterprise. Regarding personal statements, it’s great to hear other people’s for inspiration, but at the end of the day it’s about you and your achievements - which will likely differ to mine and most other’s.

I don't really have relevant work experience but I volunteered in HR department (finance-related responsibilities) of an ngo I was also a treasurer in student council in my o level school is this fine? how can I incorporate it in my PS?
@BeccaandSoph Жыл бұрын
Hi, don’t worry, most universities wouldn’t expect you to have worked in accounting/finance before 😊 I would focus on the skills that you learnt within your HR volunteering and role as treasurer. I.e. organisation, communication, effective time management and meeting deadlines etc. Check out our video on how to structure/write a personal statement if you’re struggling with formatting kzbin.info/www/bejne/m32Ul2Wui66Zbas - I think it would work well in one of the final paragraphs 😊

Interesting. My wife is an Accounting and Finance graduate. She's been working in Banking hall for 6 years plus . She started as Bank Teller then after 3 years she was transferred to Customer Care Service in the same bank but different branch location. Our problem is she doesn't really have the core Accounting experience, just the banking transactions experience. Now she's trying to apply for her Master's Degree in Accounting and Finance in UK University . It kinda tough to build a good SOP for Accounting Course. Any tips pls

Hi, I think a good personal statement tells a story - past, present, future. In other words, she could speak about her past experience and why that is relevant; why she wants to go back to education; and how it would help her future plans. If possible, I think it would be great to speak to the university admissions team to see what they are looking for 😁 We’ve also got a video on how to write a personal statement which may be useful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m32Ul2Wui66Zbas

why didn't you apply to lse, UCL, st. Andrews, Warwick and Durham, are the top unis for A&F in the UK and your SOP is really good to get in.

Hi, thanks for your comment! I looked around a few unis in cities that I liked that weren’t too far from home. Warwick was high on the league table so that was definitely a deciding factor too! Hi Thank you for your video. You perosnal statement is Soo good. I'm applying for the same course but I don't have any work experience in finance directly. This partly due to me making the decision to peruse finance later and because of Covid. I couldn't do extra circular , volunteering or finance work experience, because over half of year 12 was at home. I'm not sure what to do lol. And our college deadline is in October. I was wondering if you could recommend any books or things to watch in order to make up for it. Thank you again
@BeccaandSoph3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for commenting! I personally really do think that universities will understand that covid has had a great impact on your year and the opportunities for work experience / extra curricular activities. If I was in your position now, I’d think to see if there’s anyone I could reach out to in my network (we’ve got a video on this linked in the bio of this video). Any work experience or conversations could be useful! There are also companies such as ‘The Bright Network’ which offer virtual internships and insights into certain industries. Regarding wider reading, personally I loved economics books as I found them the most interesting. I read the following, but definitely speak to your teachers about any others they think are appropriate: - Freakonomics - The Undercover Economist - 23 Things they don’t tell you about Capitalism But overall, I wouldn’t worry or stress about it… find ways to relate anything that you’ve done to the course - volunteering, jobs, work experience. It doesn’t just have to be in a finance company to be relevant. Hope that helps!
