Was a homeschool mom. My daughter and I raced pigeons! I sewed our pigeon on the kitchen table while homeschooling! I used a wide rubber band to keep his wings in! My kids thought it was gross but the pigeon lived!

Your pigeons are looking for grit when they're on the ground, it's an important part of their diet it helps grind food in the crop it also contains important minerals.
@Apcideful9 ай бұрын
This, they can get sick if they are picking up grit off the ground where other animals have been popping, mainly the chickens. They need an added grit in their coop

I’ve seen a falcon hit a pigeon mid-flight. There was literally an explosion of feathers and RIP Mr Pigeon. I’m surprised that pigeon survived that attack, the hawk mustn’t have been very hungry.

One of my great uncles kept pigeons on his rooftop in NYC. I would go up on the roof when he’d fly them. He had rollers, tumblers, fancy-tails and he’d use flags that they would obey while flying. There was also a “flag command” to land them, it was amazing!
@David-l3i2f8 ай бұрын
@The_Crucible714 I've heard about flag training but never saw it. I had one friend that had Rollers. He would let out several Fantails when he wanted them to come in.

Where I live in Pennsylvania we lock our birds down from October first until April first because of the hawks. They get really bad in the cooler season because there’s a lot less of hunting opportunity in the winter.

Roosters are really good protectors of pigeons. Also when they’re hanging on the ground around the coop. I’ve seen videos where roosters have killed Cooper Hawks and red tail hawks that were trying to hunt chickens. They can be ruthless.

I don't think it's been done, but never say never, after all a Guinea fow X Chicken can result in offspring, and they are two different families, also Guinea fowl X Pea fowl can result in offspring again two different families. Emu and Rhea same scenario, so why not.

If you over feed your pigeons ! They will never be tamed and you can not home them correctly ! They will just be fat pigeons that can NOT out fly a HAWK or Bird Of Prey ! You should tame all your pigeons before free flying which means you NEED TO GIVE THEM A PURPOSE ! A DUTY or something or else they will just live like a chicken and be easy for hawks to come eat when you fly them.
