My group did this once in our dark heresy campaign. The npc wasnt anyone we had any history with he was enemy and he was alone which in our minds meant he’d probably be tough even outnumbered, and we were unseen. We noticed he had a rosarius, ancient tech that allowed the wearer to have a reactive kinetic shield against ranged attacks so most of us would be at a disadvantage, me especially. So we hatched a plan. Our demolitions expeert would rig up an excessive amount of anti tank charges and another of us would toss it out to with the range of the protective field. It would be fast enough to activate it. Then I, sniper with godly aim and horrible luck would fire at his general direction. Which was great since I didn’t have to hit him. The shield would then activate and the charges were detonated within it. The ensuing contained immolation turned him to ash along with that price of tech😢. Small price to pay to avoid a fight.

a Rosarius? was he an Inquisitor? That takes some Serious Heresy!

@@zeehero7280 umm I think they were a participant in a heretical auction of various archeotech, imp./xenos as well as things like a demon, in a regular ol jar. Just hanging out 😰. So yea we don’t kno for sure but if he were and were there he’s was def a Xanthite and no an emperor fearing Mondominant like our group.

@@zeehero7280 That's an Inquisitorial Rosette. A Rosarius is an ancient piece of shield technology from the time of the Emperor. They're very rare and, while usually used by astartes, high ranking officials and inquisition, they are also in the possession of traitors, cunning criminals and rogue traders.

As the D&D as the GM, you don't have to pull bullshit out of your hat to save your NPC's. Try to resist that urge. But on the other hand... 1) Be reasonable about the consequences for actions. 2) Remember that NPC's can come back to life too, unless the PC's take VERY specific (and insanely evil) precautions.
@darklink416010 ай бұрын
Oh for sure. Your soul is still there and with enough spite you can come back in many ways. I mean all it really takes is some God or Deity watching all this and give them a second chance. And you honestly have like the first year to be worried. Anyone can walk up to them and greater resurrection them back to life. This is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to bringing you back. Our current campaign has to do a lot with soul swapping and just souls in general.

yea pvp is usually a hard ban in my games too. it's also a boundary i set as a player in other people's games. In my experience, it's never worked out well in the end.

To be completely honest, the DM probably shouldn't have made it a requirement for the player to want to have to kill things as it would really be hard to play as that character especially if that's not something you wanted to do.

Surprisingly I've never had a problem with PvP before. Most of my groups have done it, but there are a few things that my players have never done simply because they don't want to ruin things for everyone. 1) any and all PvP is non-lethal. 2) it's always used to tell small arc's or Stories with the characters, in some cases it's as simple as revealing how they lived before becoming an adventurer. 3) it's never used as retaliation for IRL things, only in situations where the party in story is having conflict. And finally 4) they sometimes use it for when Players no longer want to play their PC. (Aka they have life stuff that takes them away permanently, or they just want to play a different character.)

PvP is fine as long as it's deserved. Saying "no PvP unless both sides agree to it" or just plain "no PvP" is a good way to get someone to antagonize everyone else because they know there won't be any consequences unless it gets in the way of the DM's fun.

I know it’s off-topic, but I’m basically a first time DM who’s past a handful of times In a grope of first time players and my group wants to do StrixHaven they already got the book but I’ve heard it’s not the most filled out. I was thinking about mixing it with Lost Mine Of Phandelver and I could use some tips and I’d like to get anyone’s thoughts.
