I read the Faith In Me Collection of inspirational birth stories as well as Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth. Both made me excited and not fearful. My labour was under 2 hours and I had no pain medication, I just used hypnobirthing breathing. Childbirth is empowering and amazing and doesn’t have to be painful or fear inducing.

Literally nearly cried when you said about your mum saying “it’s time to meet your baby!” Emosh! She’s beautiful and you’ve both fitted into parenthood amazingly. Your labour sounds similar to my sons. He kept popping back up too! Luckily he wasn’t back to back so I just pushed with all my might and he finally came out but I love how even though you obviously didn’t plan a c-section you turned it into a positive 💗

Lily, so much applaud to you and Rich for learning who Grey is and already respecting her needs as a person! As a mom of two (older children now), I can say that this alone will aid greatly in your relationship as she grows up. Keep up the excellent work of raising a human being. It truly is the most difficult job and you are off to an outstanding job!

I'm am 42. years away from having a baby, but can't help but think how much nicer an experience it would have been to have a birth partner. I was pretty much terrified, and as I had waited until the last second (actually didn't realize I was so far along in labor!) I made it to the hospital, was prepped, and had my son 20 mins later! My husband was there in the hospital, but at that time, they didn't let them in the birthing room. I didn't have family nearby (or even on the same continent), so I am so happy for you that this experience, despite the time and effort you put in, was such a meaningful one. Kudos to Rich - men are so much more involved these days. Beautiful story, and gorgeous baby!

Loved the video. I'm 54 and had my son 26 years ago (27 in December) i had a similar experience, labor for 24 hours then c-section. I am so disappointed that skin-to-skin wasn't a thing then. After surgery I didn't see him for 12 hours. They knocked me out for recovery. I wish i had had that time with him. But thanks for all the real talk. I can imagine how helpful it is for others. You are a beautiful family. Congrats !

Love your story-mine is kind of similar. I pushed for 17 hours total, the last 4 of which were “coached” so pushing as hard as I could. About 12 hours before he was born, I reached down and felt his head. He also was in a bad position and got stuck like yours. I’m so glad I was at a birthing center, because eventually he did come out, no meds or anything…had to try tons of positions and all that and eventually it worked! Had I been at a hospital of course they would have c sectioned me. You did a great job resisting for so long ❤

I'm doctor training in OBGYN in Australia and it's so great to hear it from your side of things! I think it's so important for women having babies to keep an open mind!!! It's obviously great to have an idea of how your ideal birth plays out, but no-one can EVER predict what might happen. And at the end of the day, we ALL (mums, families, doctors, midwives) want the same outcome - healthy mum and health baby.

I am not close to pregnancy but I have always been very scared about the all thing (as you said you were). It is so inspiring to hear your story, from "I was scared" to "I did that and everyone was so proud of me", it makes you understand that you can find your strength by doing things step by step, reading and preparing yourself (even if it never goes as expected). I also love the way you use to tell your story, not by saying "you should do that, you should do the same as me" but talking about pros and cons and telling us even the worst things, that are part of the reality too. Wish you all the best, thanks for sharing😘😘😘

Lily, so glad you are back!!! And what a beautiful story, and Rich crying is so touching. The end result is a beautiful little girl. I think she's likely to keep those beautiful blue eyes, as she does look a lot like Rich. When I was born I had blue eyes too (my mom was hoping I'd keep them too), but less than two months into my existence, they turned into dark brown (not even green, as my dad's). So, Grey is likely to remain a beautiful girl with beautiful blue eyes.

Oh Lily, my birth story is so similar to yours 🥰 except how you managed to get through hours upon hours of labour with no medication and a posterior baby is beyond me! 🤯 you’re amazing! I had the exact same feeling where I just needed to push but my body felt like it was completely out of my control and I couldn’t NOT push - the midwives, however, didn’t want me to push. The doctors prepped me for theatre in case it turned into an emergency c section however they managed to manually turn her and deliver by forceps. My husband and I also did a hypnobirthing course, however bubba was 3 weeks early so we only attended half the course before she was born 😆 My waters did break like in the movies and water gushed all over our floor and kept coming! Despite that I got sent home after an examination because of a poor decision by a midwife but that’s another story. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m so glad you aren’t traumatised and congratulations to you and Rich 🥳😍🙏💓

The more I watched the more teary I was getting, and that's because I had an incredibly similar experience to you. I gave birth on Valentine's Day and my little girl was coming back to back too, so I know how intense the pain can be and how you feel the urge to push from a very early stage. I was fortunate enough to have a midwife who realised she was coming back to back and they did all the tricks in the book to get her to turn before it was time to push. I also had diamorphine (same thing to pethidine) on my thigh and it helped me dilate from 3 to 9.5 in 3 hours! The great thing is that it got me so drugged that I slept through the pain and when I was awake I was ready to push! And I was put on the hormonal drip as well to help intensify the contractions but like you, the doctor came in, examined me and said that I had 10mins to have this baby, because she had just had a poop and if she wasn't out soon then I was going in theatre for forceps first or a C section. The only big difference to you is that my doctor gave me marching orders and asked me to have an episiotomy because the little one was stuck and they needed some space to pull her out, so after 4 very long pushes I was holding her in my arms! It was proper emotional seeing you describing all that, I know we don't know each other but it feels surreal how similar our experience was and how much closer to you I feel, like you're a friend I've known for years. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing all this and take your time to enjoy all the moments of motherhood! ❤❤❤

every time I hear a long and difficult labour / not coming out story - I assume the baby is back to back *and here you go. My first one was back to back - the worst pain was not the 24 hours labour but his head pushing on my tailbone (OMG....) finally he wasn't able to get his head around my pelvis and got stuck because of the wrong location, so it was a c-section. they didn't realise he was back to back until he looked up at them during the section. they really had to pull out of my pelvis, it was crazy. I ended up having 5 sections because the second was in distress (cord ended up fully wrapped around her neck) and then you can only have sections for any additional baby. congrats, your baby is so beautiful :)

I flipping love your mum content, so much is #relatable. great great birth story - im in awe. I did the digital pack and was so so psyched for a dreamy water birth but had a heavy bleed at 36 weeks and ended up having a section - I was so disappointed to not experience what labour was like, but in hindsight what the course taught me was SO valuable, I managed to stay so chill throughout and was confident to make choices like gentle c section and also had curtain down when his head was emerging (that was a bit much if im honest, very very odd) - my hubs was in awe of how calm I was through some scary bits. I really felt like a train had hit me after that, not a good ward or feeding or recovery experience - I cant even imagine all of that on top of actually labouring to ten centimeters - you are a superwoman! You guys are such great parents, motherhood suits you better than any glowy foundation! xxxxx
