The "B list" (future needs) concept seems like a smart idea. I haven't had kids yet but I can imagine you'd be so exhausted the first few months of baby's life, so to have already done that research for high chairs etc before the birth when you're less sleep deprived and have more time for research seems smart.

Lily... this was SO helpful, even though my baby is now 8 months but really broke it down so well for new mamma's. Why aren't you making more baby videos. You're so practical about it! Should be more videos like this that are sensible!

Yes! I'm 31 wks pregnant and appreciate how practical Lily is, we think so alike I believe. My list is similar to her. I agree she doesn't need to be scared of baby content bc she has a great perspective which is great for FTM

Would love more baby content, sleep training, routines, lessons learned kind of thing. I know it's hard to put yourself out there as people are so judgey but would be great to get practical tips based on your experience. New mum to a 6 week old here!

Just as a comment as a paediatric doctor - we would normally recommend under arm thermometers - especially in young babies. Forehead/ear thermometers mostly under estimate temperatures - especially ear ones as they generally wont be put in far enough. An under arm thermometer is generally the best to get a good accurate temperature in

Dear Lily, I have been a Montessori nanny for 9 years and now expecting my first baby. I have loads of experience but when it comes to buying your own stuff can be overwhelming. I absolutely loved your video. Your approach is practical and clever and I am totally on the same page as you. I think the pdf is SUPER handy and I’m going to use it. Such good advice you gave and I love your style of parenting- very honest and very hands on. I loved when you said you give Grey cold milk. I remember when I first started nannying and I always warmed up their milk. Of course they love it and it’s a nice thing to do specially on a cold day; but really, they don’t mind the cold milk at all and like you said works best if you are out and about and can’t always do it. Grey is a lucky girl to have such great parents. Thank you. Sending love to your family.

I am not currently pregnant, nor do I have any children yet, but I found this video so interesting and helpful. I will definitely be revisiting in the future when i do need it. I loved the “no nonsense” approach. I think I have a very similar attitude but like Lily can be easily pressured/panicked by others. Love that I can print out the pdf and just tick things off as and when. So so great!!

This video for me was a Godsend. And I am not exaggerating. Thank you again for taking the time..

Maybe this will help someone, I want to recommend a type of stroller we used second time round - the one where the bassinet and pushchair seat(?) are the same thing. So you can easily transform one thing into other while out, depending on the situation(like little one goes into sling and older child can be pushed if they are tired). Game changer if you have kids less then 5 years apart. Swear by it! I’m sure there are lots of brand for this type, we have Kinderkraft Juli and it’s our best purchase yet❤️

I loved this video! I don’t have kids, but my husband and I have been trying for over a year, so this is helpful. Lovely video. Just to note we had a prem baby and we were told no more than 20 minutes in a car seat without stopping and taking them out and checking they are able to breath. 2 hours would be a no no for leaving them in a car seat.

Hi Lily, thank you for this! You shouldn't apologise! It is super helpful for people who are looking for these things! I am currently expecting and it's quite overwhelming to think about all of this. I ALWAYS think: my Mom didn't have this and she didn't have more work and I am here! and also I think: what would my Mom think if I told her I bough this! ahahah! but this one obviously plays a much lesser part. Also, I appreciate that you have added UK. I find these things vary SO MUCH from country to country! I see american videos and all is an essential and super expensive extra things for me, but it is cultural. and it is important to realise this as well when we watch videos. for instance where i am living now in asia it is almost a blasphemy not to take a live in nanny... they really are adamant that you have children you have nannies in the house for them - that is super stressful to me. I found all of this super interesting and thank you for the video! :)

Already saved your PDF checklist! Thank you so much! Please always share your knowledge as a first time mom that is truly precious!

About the waterproof mattress topper: in the Netherlands we're not allowed to use one until the baby is able to roll over. Without the waterproof cover fluid drains away. With it on the mattress a young baby could choke for example on their spit up.

Love the video! Its important to know too about the car seat that they had an expiration date, so if you had one from someone that you know it hasnt had a car crash, just check that its not 10 years old! Every car seat has a diferent expiration date, so you need to read the brand instructions for more info. I have 4 months old twins, I think your list is really useful ❤️ nothing to add! Just: dont go crazy buying lost of same size clothes, they grow really fast!

That was a epic A list! As a first time mum I purchased A, B and C list items. What a waste. Lol. All my A list items have been kept for baby no’2. The temperature egg was my absolute saviour. I had one in the living room and the other in the bedroom. My little boy overheated really quickly and would get sick quite often as he was born during winter. If he had any viral infection, he would have febrile seizures. An absolute nightmare. That egg kept me in control of the temperature of each room. Especially during winter when all you want to do is increase the heat of your home. X

Brilliant video, loving the honesty. I’m due in 8 weeks and am pleased after watching this that I seem to have taken a similar approach to you in terms of getting the essentials upfront then waiting to get the rest until we see what kind of baby we have. Really useful to those of us going through this at the moment, especially first time mums- there isn’t the same opportunity to talk to friends and family about all this sort of stuff, in fact I don’t know about anyone else but you can feel quite invisible as everyone is affected by this crisis so your life changing time is easily overlooked by others which is quite sad. So thank you for remembering about all us pregnant ladies and putting this together, I’m sure it will help lots of us 😊

As a mum to a 19 month old this is such a good list! I would just add that if you’re planning on using reusable nappies you definitely need a nappy bin because you wait to wash them all together and you need somewhere to put them with a lid. I also used cheeky wipes which are reusable wipes. I can’t believe you can remember the newborn days and what to buy😂it’s just a big blur to me, well done Lily!

We had to buy a really expensive One, but is a must.

Thanks for mentioning (by not mentioning lol) the reasons why you're not including feeding. I definitely "knew" I'd breastfeed.. Ended up not being able to produce enough, quick enough and baby was (happily) formula fed from 2 weeks. 200 breast pads/feeding cover/loads of maternity bras and tops wasted 😂 lesson learned... However you end up doing it, the only important thing to remember is FED is best ❤️
