A couple of things I didn't see mentioned were tweezers ( I seem to have exchanged eyebrows for chin hairs), eyeglass repair kit and nail polish/remover I have always believed that skin care is more important than makeup. Cleanse and moisturize!. Also, you can make your own body scrub by mixing sugar (some prefer salt) and any type of oil. I use olive oil. A few drops of essential oil for fragrance (optional). Mix and add oil to get the desired consistency. Store in an airtight container.

When I work on my pantry I always keep my dogs in mind. I have 2-130 pound American Staffordshire Terriers. And, if/ when things get difficult, it'll be the little things like those that will lift the spirit, I was also sure to add a nail kit to take care of cuticles, hang nails, etc. as I may be working with my hands more or in a different way. And, of course, a first aid kit. Part of me wants a kit that has everything possible, but also just having the basics will make a huge difference. I'd love to know if you have a medical kit yet and what you have in it. I also take a beta-blocker and have since a child so I've been researching natural beta blocking herbs and foods in case I cannot get my prescription. I just love your sweet spirit and your videos.

I think multi purpose on my pantry. I use lavender baby oil or lavender baby lotion for mosquito repellant (softens skin and pleasant smelling to us). Baking soda is a must in my bathroom. I put a cup or two in my bath for a relaxing soak. Baking soda in the bath water will reduce itching from allergies and bites. Baking soda is also good as a cleaning item. I make cleaning powder by adding dish soap watered down with equal amount of water to baking soda until baking soda starts to clump and then letting dry. For the toilet add a little more dish soap to baking soda so it will hold to gether in little small egg size balls (put a couple glugs of vinegar in toilet and then drop in toilet bomb to clean toilet). Baking Soda can also be used to degrees hair between washings (sprinkle a little in hair, rub to roots, brush out baking soda). Body or baby powder is a good degreaser for the hair. Sprinkle powder in hair, rub to roots, and brush out powder. Female sanitary pads are good to keep in first aid kit. It will absorb blood until can get medical care. To keep from being the cause of the store shelves from going bare I buy no more then either double normal purchase or one extra a week if not normal weekly item. Being gluten free I am more limited on what I can use and am amazed at how many gluten free items are out of stock.

Ha! Your story about your daughter and the Playtex reminded me of an incident with my children. There was a commercial for a laxative product called Doxidan. A man strummed on a guitar while singing Doxidan, Doxidan, no surprises. Doxidan, Doxidan, sure as the sun rises. My daughter and my son, ages about 4 and 3, were fascinated by that commercial. One day we were shopping in a nice department store when my daughter began reciting the Doxidan song. I whispered to her to stop singing the song in the store because Doxidan was medicine that people needed to help them "poo poo". She yelled loudly to her little brother, whose nickname was T.T., "Hey T.T.! Doxidan makes you poop!" So much for delicate behavior in the department store.

hi denise! I love your channel and this style of video, and well all your videos. i just wanted to leave a little side note on some of your prep stuff (in the perspective on what we do on a very limited budget / supply chain break, and the idea of using items from a bug out bag or evacuation style prep. we live in a land of fire so while its always encouraged to shelter in place, my guy and i try to be more prep leave ready ) in regards to the toilet tires.. idk this might seem gross to others but we use make up wipes as facial tissue and hand wipes as here in Southern california.Sometimes we just can not find or are priced out of things like actual facial tissue or baby wipes (these are wic items so i try to be very cautious buying these. i dont want a baby to lose out when i can use something else). for shampoo, this hasn’t been a huge issue for us since we both use the same shampoo and i really dont use conditioner, but i have found that we stretch things a little farther if we buy the 3 in 1 or use soap for our hair - while i know that is insane , we also use coconut oil afterwards to soften. i think for many that havent done this it might seem odd but again im speaking from a shelf stable travel perspective / budget . we also use coconut oil for moisturiser and make-up remover. in regards to feminine hygiene, i loathe pads but they seem to go a father distance as far as actual female .....use, BUT tampons make great fire starters so i always try to have them in our bags. i just wanted to leave this comment in case you were ever to run out of items, many things have amazing multiple uses.

I was buying conditioner and things separate, but the conditioner would just sit in the closet. Now it's 3 in 1 so I know we have everything and it will be used...also, saves space in the closet. The kleenex are nice to stock up on also, in the event you run out of TP.....I never thought about it before, until things became hard to find.....I was able to find the tissues when TP was out of stock. So now I keep boxes of tissues on hand just in case. Sometimes you have to think about how things can be used in other ways. Don't forget medications whether they are OTC or prescription.,...a good first aid kit is a must. I take injections, so I am making sure I have plenty of alcohol pads and other supplies on hand. Keep pets in mind....food, treats, and medications. There's a lot to take into consideration. I think what has helped me, is if I'm buying something that we need this week, I pick up an extra.....if you have a grocery app, review past purchases and the frequent items will soon pop out at you. Those are the items you want to make sure you have on hand.

I don't have a Costco membership. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to spend $60 for a membership! What do you think?
@LindaCBMediaGroup4 жыл бұрын
@@homemakingwithdenise I believe it is. I've included my daughter and son-in-law in my membership, and we divide some items we purchase there. When shopping for your 3 month, or more pantry, I find it to be a very valuable resource. In my area they're very well stocked at this time. Flours, sugars, yeast, herbs and spices. Their Kirkland brand canned meats a very good. Their prices on these staples are extremely good. You do have to buy the larger sizes, but, that's were sharing can come in for many people. Personally, I've been working on a longer term pantry, so a purchase of a 25lb bag of flour doesn't phase me at all, and I buy my sugar in the 10lb bags for ease of lifting. You can also get many of your OTC medications in larger bottles, and at a lower cost. You should also check their pharmacy prices against what you're paying now for any routine prescriptions you have. Something many people don't know is that you don't have to be a member to use their pharmacy. I can also say that around here, their price per pound for fresh meats, especially beef and pork have been the best I've found. I've put enough in my deep freezer to last me quite some time.

This and That with Denise Jordan My husband and I are empty nesters and parents of young men. I didn’t think of the feminine products as I am no longer of child bearing age. However if I were to get a visit from my Daughter in Law or some of my nieces I would want to be prepared if the need arose. Everything else I already keep extras on hand.

If you have older adults you might want to consider incontinence products

Chap stick- helps with chapped face, lips, and can be Used as a barrier. Epsom salt helps relax muscles and add magnesium. Buy plain and can be used as a laxative.

You know what, I've got a laxative stash but this will go in the medicine cabinet haul. Keep watching.

I'd add hair coloring if you use it, dry shampoo, and hair spray. In a SHTF grid down situation, hairspray can be used to start a fire :) And PLEASE have enough birth control!

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this: got Costco brand of baby wipes. Use them for my mom with limited mobility in between her baths. Also, Clorox wipes have been unavailable for about 6 months in my area. Took one package and experimented with making my own Clorox wipes. Took about 1/2 ounce of Clorox to 5 ounces of water in my case. Recommended solution is actually 1 part Clorox to 9 parts water to make a 1:10 solution. This is just an experiment from other vids I have seen. I’ll let ya know how it turns out. Also, I plan to use these wipes pretty quickly as they lose potency over time.

Yes, once you dilute that bleach it breaks down quickly so just do it up in small amounts. I do like the idea of making your own if necessary.

With the personal items and cleaners, another list of mine is household (natural chemicals) such as vinegar, baking soda, witch hazel, epsom salts, alcohol, I have diatomaceous earth, oils, etc.

I cant remember if cleaners were in my first grocery haul or not. I' ll double check and if not, be sure to mention them. I do have a medicine cabinet video planned for next week.

do you have an additional heat source and oil lamps for lights out situation?
@homemakingwithdenise4 жыл бұрын
No Rose, we should probably get some oil lamps. We do have a generator to help with some of that but I’m not sure how many things he can hook up to it. We also have several large flashlights or lanterns. I should check their batteries,

Hi Earl, it's available now. I used my IPad to do the live and whenever I do that, it takes forever to process. The processing is done, I actually created a thumbnail, and you can get to it. I'm so glad you found me. Where are you in your prepping journey? How can I help you and yours?
