I didn't know this song, though i was around during the Sun years. I sure would have remembered if we heard it in the 1950s. Do U know exactly when it was recorded and released? Course there was a lot of stuff they wouldn't play on the radio....

Let me be your first commenter. This posting is controversial in a couple of ways. First the title of the song (one of your favourites). I had not heard of the song and did not know what a quadroon was. It's a person who is one quarter black. Must be a Louisiana thing. Next the photo. I assume it shows his (cousin) wife at age 13. Now THAT is controversial. I wonder if she was a quadroon? Now for the most interesting part. You are not American. I am guessing Dutch. But you must love American country/rockabilly music. Good for you. For all his quirks, Jerry Lee was an incredible talent in his wild youth. Ciao

Kozak, your comment is rude and unnecessary. Octaroon and quadroon were often-used terms in the 18th and 19th Century, in both the North and the South, to describe a black woman's racial composition. Their light skin gave rise to the term "high yellow." The women could often "pass" for white, and many did. Sally Hemmings was either an octaroon or a quadroon, explaining why her children (most with red hair) could easily pass for white. The famous "Yellow Rose of Texas" was an ode to a white man's sweetheart -- an octaroon. For a truly beautiful rendition of "My Pretty Quadroon," watch the 1938 classic movie, "Jezebel." It is frequently shown on Ted Turner's classic movie channel. The photo is unfortunate, as it shows Lewis with his adolescent wife, who was his second cousin (once removed). When word got out, it crushed his career. He's still around, but his career never recovered. I do not know why you had to question Mr. Holst's citizenship, but in his defense, may I suggest that you return to wherever it was behind the Iron Curtain that you were last seen picking potatoes and turnips. And learn some history!

@@YellowstoneBound1948 Wow! What a racist, insensitive, non-inclusive doofus you are. Perhaps in your pseudo reality you believe in repressive tolerance. I do not.

Well i had to look up what quadroon meant years ago myself,i must assume that JLL is no racist then, able to sing this song with such feeling, and besides that i always felt he knew where his music came from, someone called him a white person with a black mans soul and JLL took that as a compliment,as far as his marriage to Myra goes, the world thought it was controversial,he did not,he loved her and married her,in todays age such thing would be impossible but they married very young back in the days where JLL grew up,what happened was a culture clash in my mind.
