Tommy Cooper was born just down the road from me . Near Caerphilly South Wales. Yet I had the misfortune to see the great man die on television R.I.P Mr Cooper.

They cut this short. I remember watching this, as if I could not stop laughing. A bit later he got the two mixed up, and the commandant said, 'Why are you impersonating me?'

My grandfather was in his unit in the Desert Rats. He said a day without a laugh never happened no matter what. After the shit hit the fan and it died down, he'd always say something that brought on roars of laughter.

@@essexpeter6116 can't post pics on here, but I do have a few of the lads in the desert. Dry wit is the invention of the entire British Isles, and we're the masters of it. Tommy often slipped with the dead pan, but that made him all the better.

I just like the low budget props/ cavalier attitude towards timing/ randomness/ perhaps, partly ad-libbed comedy sketch. It all adds to the carefully constructed chaos of the whole affair. The man was a genius, looking back on it.

Somehow Tommy Cooper made being cr*p stupendously funny! He feels much the same as Spike Milligan, he took the madness of the war and put it on stage mocking it and realising we’re all quite nuts.
