I don't want the 600 i4 class to die either, I love my zx6r, it's a work of art.
@justinpapin63973 жыл бұрын
I don't think that it will die. I4 is still the best engine config for the track. But most people don't ride on the track. So it will become less common as parallel twins get the job done better and cheaper (better profit margins because of cost savings on simpler engine and mounting) for the average rider who commutes but like to joy-ride occasionally.
@Fearless1543 жыл бұрын
600cc inline 4 kinda suck on the street that's why they're dying. They're completely gutless and the top-end power is not enough to suit the cravings of highway hoons. They really shine only on the track but most people don't ride their Supersports on the track. If you ask me there is no reason to buy r6 over r1 if you want a race replica bike and you're going to ride mainly on the street r1 is much more versatile.

Unfortunately it seems the 600 class is dying most manufacturers have already stopped making them. There’s the cbr650r but I bet that’s going to be on the chopping block as well. Aprilia has shown that people want a parallel twin with decent horsepower. Hell you can’t even find one they are all sold out.
@Fearless1543 жыл бұрын
@@ryanoliver9131 The engine has nothing to do with it but how usable the power is in everyday scenario while still having good and capable chassis. That is the comment I have been hearing. It makes sense when you have the R3/MT03, R1/MT10, but just because there is an MT-07 doesn't mean R7 makes sense when re-using a previous model name. R3-R6-R1 was a good progression, but the new R7 to R1 is a huge jump. One could argue the R1 is just insane and not many can actually extract all it has to offer, but there is a huge gap between the R7 and R1 now. With the demise of the 600 SuperSports I feel like a higher power middle bike is needed to bridge the gap.

I was really hyped for the R7 but yeah my balloon has lost some air so far. I also highly agree, it needed a inline 4 to be a true R7. Even the FZ6R has a inline 4 and sounded amazing actually. It was massively overweight and quite a bit underwhelming on the torque and power front but was very comfy on long rides even in traffic. The R7, I wouldn't want to be caught in any traffic on. Even though the R7 name has historical significance, it makes a ton of sense for Yamaha to use it as they transition their sport line to something like an R3, R7, R9 and R1 orientation. Many riders who are looking at the new R7 will be too young to recall the original, thus their market will not be put off by this mild infringement - it's likely they wont even be aware of it. Sure, the 700-cc bikes of today are great and can be much better at daily use than the older models, with more low-end torque from their parallel twins, but... **sighs** I wish Kawasaki could make the Ninja ZX-7R again, with the dual round headlights...and a 4-cylinder! Suzuki still making the GSX-750R, good. Honda had the CBR750 Hurricane/Super Aero back in the 80's, so it would be cool if they brought back both the displacement and nameplates.

The MT07 has a nice bit of shove low down and it is quite fun to ride that torque .. but it runs out of steam a bit quick. I had mine from new for 14 months then traded it in against a 790 Duke, with 100bhp on tap and almost 40% more torque than the 07 it's way more fun to ride .. even more low down shove and still has some to give towards the top end too. Still not the high end rush of a decent 4c sports bike but a nicer and more useable balance between torque and bhp.

I find it hard to believe that they built this to compete against the RS660 given how it has around 25hp less. I don't think this will be as competitive as most think. In reality, this bike looks like it was a lazy, overly cautious design route. I'm not annoyed that they called it the r7, I understand their reasoning, I do share your thought on it though. I think the r series should be kept to the razor sharp track focused bikes. Unfortunately the only sport touring line Yamaha has is the tracer and FJR neither of which this bike would fit under. I'm kind of chalking this up as a sport tourer since it doesn't have the outright power of a "true" sportbike and I don't really expect it to be quite as track focused, which I may be wrong on. Time will tell though and I look forward to it regardless of the name. Any bike can be any type of bike if you're willing enough
@marcusgeorge18253 жыл бұрын
I agree you to a point. The original R7 had one purpose only. That was to win races. The new one isn’t designed with that in mind. The death of the 600 class has many reasons. The new R7 has more “real world” street, everyday use-abilities. As you don’t spend your time in the upper limits of the RPM range. For me just having the fully adjustable suspension with forks upside down is a huge bonus. That the Ninja 650 and CBR650R don’t. Which is basically where this is aimed at. The RS660 is really in a league of its own (even tho on paper it’s in the same “class”). 👍😎🇦🇺

Couldn’t agree more. I just think they should’ve made it more of a competitor to the rs660 than they did. They seemed to miss some things that would stand out like a stock up and down quick shifter and a basic traction control system. I noticed a ABS light but looked into it and didn’t see if it was lean sensitive or not. If yamaha would’ve done that then it would’ve been a much better competitor and even if it was $1000-$1500 more as optional features I think it’s absolutely necessary especially since this bike is going to be an option to lots of new riders with a small background with dirt bikes and mopeds looking to get into street bikes. They also should’ve tweaked the motor to rev a little longer which can be fixed with a tune but the torque is going to be great. At the end of the day yamaha always comes out with something kinda cool then makes it a very special unique bike within a few years after consumers complain about certain things. I’m curious how the vibration will be on this bike since it’s definitely going to be different than a inline four. Fingers crossed for a “r9”

I'm just annoyed that Yamaha just used a parts bin engine and didn't do anything to make it more racy. They could've easily put a more agressive head/cam setup in it with higher compression and at least gotten the HP to high 80's/low-90's. A good chassis with firm inverted forks and a decent rear shock with 73 crank HP is going to feel pretty slow IMO. Why would you buy this when for $2,000 more you could have an RS660 with almost 30 more HP? What's an extra 2k spread out over 5 years anyway, an extra $30 a month? I'm sure it will be a solid bike but as HeroRR said it's kind of a letdown for the R nameplate....
