The reason game of thrones in so good is because of the fact that they kill of major characters, most shows you’re sitting there thinking “well he’s not gonna die” and it takes away from the scene. In this show you never take anything for granted bc of the fact that anyone can die at any moment

the fact that theon was captured by the boltons is hinted at when jaime and brienne were captured. we see the bolton sigil in that scene and jaime even comments on it saying “the flayed man of house bolton. a bit gruesome for my taste.” the sigil of house bolton looks exactly like theon strapped to that cross

The writer lulls you into Rob’s decision making so that you make the same mistakes he does and so when it costs him his life in some way it shows how you would have failed as well. Only upon reflection do you understand how you were blinded to the mistakes just like Rob was.

One thing I’ll leave you with, my King, remember that this story is written by someone who values authenticity above all other storytelling tropes. Prophecies, religion, character arcs are all literary tropes that he teases you with and then drops the moment they are unrealistic, because at the end of the day, GRRM is only interested in human truth.

The show's Red Wedding is brutal but there's a line in the book's version that haunts me. Just before they cut Catelyn's throat they grab her by the hair and she thinks to herself 'No, don’t, don’t cut my hair, Ned loves my hair.'

In the books, there are slaves of all skin colors. These are people captured and sold after losing a war. The author, George R.R. Martin, regrets that a white savior is perceived and humorously explains that the filming took place in Morocco. Naturally, it was Moroccans who showed up for the casting call for extras. 🐉

To be honest Most people that read the letter Davos had would have laughed at him, but the fact Melisandre took it seriously shows she knows something

The Red Priestess didn't change her stance only after reading the letter. She put the letter in the fire and saw something in the fire. The same as after throwing the leeches into the fire. The letter itself would not have swayed her position.

She didn't just read it she burned it and looked into the flames, what she saw is what changed her tune not just what she read. Reading it she can't verify if it's true but burning it gives her a vision that the lord of light sends. The vision tells her the truth of it, or she believes it does anyway. She is a priestess and does what her fire god bids her to do to fulfill his will.

Jamie didn't know about his father's deal with Roose, he viewed him as a captor...so "Lannisters send regards " was just a meaningless phrase, right? Roose gave it WHOLE NEW horrible meaning.
@glynmorrall5978Ай бұрын
sorry, have to disagree. I believe Jaime was the messenger for that plan, or at least the first contact between Tywin and Roose leading to the creation of the plan. Once Roose lets Jaime go, there's no turning back for Roose and Jaime knows it, if Robb found out he transported such a valuable prisoner back to the enemy he would kill Roose. Why would anyone (Jaime) at that point believe that Roose wasnt on their side?
@mapletree3434Ай бұрын
@@glynmorrall5978 Jamie had zero opportunity to be a messanger boy. Everything was set in motion while Tywin was dining with Littlefinger in Harrenhall way back. Of course, if the books say otherwise, it's a different timeline of events. I'm commenting on the show.
@-jess--here--Ай бұрын
@@mapletree3434 in the books Roose says, Jamie Lannister sends his regards. But I really don't think that it is meant the way Catelyn heard it but having heard it is why Lady Stoneheart is after Jamie. I don't think Jamie had anything to do with it because of Jamie's chapters in the books. They are all POV. So the readers get to know Jamie's thoughts.
@glynmorrall5978Ай бұрын
@@mapletree3434 Yeah im going by show too. Fair enough I might be far off thinking jaime was the catalyst of the plan, But I feel my point still stands that whether he knew exactly what was going to happen, he was aware by the time of that quote that the Boltons were going to betray the Starks, just given the circumstances of him being sent home safely.
@mapletree3434Ай бұрын
@-jess--here-- Wow, wait, so Jamie is oblivious? Ugh,I almost asked something spoilery! Anyways, Bolton in the books almost framed Jamie..but it's all Tywin-aproved so no repercussions anyway.(no, don't tell me about that Lady...I didn't read the books). Is your view that show Jamie doesn't know anything?

38:20 but that has always been Melisandre's goal, she was "taught" that the Prince who was promised, who she thinks is Stannis, will lead the world into the great war against darkness. That's why she does everything she can to get Stannis to the throne. With this letter she only had confirmation that the great war is closer than she imagined

The great thing about GoT is that everyone's story is interesting, for the most part. If they off a few characters, there's still a dozen+ more you can follow and enjoy. I've also never seen a show where all of the side characters impact you like they're main characters, either. And most importantly, these character deaths don't derail the story, but actually enhances it.
@TimL-nr4hrАй бұрын
It is weird that no one gets who Ramsey Snow is before he is revealed since Roose says that he's going to send his bastard and then you have the flayed man on the Bolton flags and flaying Theon is one of the first things Ramsey does when he reveals that he's torturing him.

For me, a movie that has stayed with me forever is the 1995 Ghost in the Shell animation. I saw it when I was young, and didn’t quite get it all, but the vibes were so strong that I never forgot it. Good insight about Roose Bolton. Roose doesn’t do evil for the fun of it like Joffrey or Ramsey. Roose does evil things to advance himself and his family like Tywin. Roose was honest when he said he’d have stayed Loyal to Robb if he took his advice and made better decisions. Roose only switched sides when Robb was losing.

Melisandre follows visions she sees in the fire. She only gets tiny pieces at a time, and bases what she does off of what she sees. She misread what the mission was. If you notice, after she read the message, she put it in the flame. She then had the vision of the white walkers, and that Davos was needed in the war to come

Yeah that's how it's written in the books, explained by GRR in an interview & there were a *few* white faces in the crowd... but it still feels like white saviour trope.
@tylabarros150628 күн бұрын
@@MrGrifftYeah, that comment (and Dany's character) made me a bit uncomfortable, saying the blonde white woman looks angelic amongst all the brown faces. In the show, at least, she really feels like a white savior queen--young, beautiful, blonde, feminine, innocent, angelic, who cares about the poor children and slaves. She goes from being a naive, sweet, uneducated girl to a cunning and formidable conqueror in like 2-3 years. Hers is the character I believe the least in the show.
