The ranking system works differently than you think. It's not based on what you rank overall it actually depends on how well you do in races. i.e not going off road too much, not bumping or hitting corners and not getting hit with enemy items. Took me some googling before I realised why I kept getting B ranks with straight first place. Hope this helps if he wants better rankings in future videos.

The ranks in this game are based on things such as what place you get, how many obstacles you hit, how much you drive off road etc. In order to get a star rank or higher, you have to get first place with 60 points.

By the way, to get a star rank, you need to get 1st on most if not all races and then don't fall off or get hit by too many items or hit too many walls. Also if you press + on the GP select screen you can use bikes.

I think the ranking takes into consideration the amount of times you bump into walls or fall off the track, at least when it comes to star rankings. so u basically score higher the cleaner you drive

I think the rank also has to do with how much time during the race you spend ACTUALLY IN FIRST, not just at the end. Which means it may behoove you to pick a faster vehicle that can get in front early and evade/be lucky enough you can stay there.
