I knew Banks was the one as soon as I saw them together. Then to hear that she groomed him……that settled it!! I’ve rescued rabbits for 25 years and they are so much better off together like that. My buns usually live 13-16 years and I’m firmly convinced that it’s because I give them ONLY Timothy Hay to eat. No salads, fruit, etc. As you know, their GI tracts are super sensitive and all they need is the Timothy Hay. Welcome to the family_________!!! Whatever the new name is, welcome, you adorable bun!!! 🐇

Dam that’s a long time rescuing buns I have two lionhead mix rabbits one is 1 and the other it his brothers baby and she’s 5 months old I was thinking about just feeding hay like Timothy and treat hay but I feed them pellets that are 100 percent hay naf herbs and they get a one to two leaves of lettuce each at night and hay thought out the day rhey also get herbs and treat hats too and did you feed them any treat hay or herbs or just Timothy hay as I’m really instrested in just hay diet no veggies only occasionally and no pellets

Just Timothy Hay. They need it for their gut to remain in good condition. Also, equally important, the grinding motion of their teeth, that they use to eat the hay, keeps their teeth from growing too long. Rabbit teeth are like horse teeth, they keep growing. The hay keeps them at the perfect length. They only need Timothy hay. Nothing else. Wild rabbits don’t eat lettuce, carrots or any other vegetables (unless they raid someone’s garden). They only eat grasses and roots.

Oh yes, the grooming is a clear sign of affection for sure. Like the BIGGEST sign that Banks was the best option. Also we sadly lost two older rabbits last year. One of old age and another of congestive heart failure due to age so I know that feeling of losing a bun. I am glad Olive found a new friend. :)

Awe ! Welcome the new guy. Name suggestion- Branch (so like Olive , Branch lol) I remember when my Petey passed away, his girlfriend Piper did NOT do well. Petey passed extremely unexpectedly from GI stasis 10 months after we rescued him. The suddenness of it all really affected Piper , that the vets were terrified we were gonna loose her to from grief. cause she was not eating , was not wanting to move , wasn’t even her aggressive self with me. She’s a moody thing and she was so calm it was scary. So as soon as we could we headed over to the rabbit rescue with her, and the only neutered male that was ready to go home, I loved him so much. And their Bun date when amazing. And now we have Paxton. And they bonded super easily. Like within 1 week they were living full time together in the main room. And the piper was very intrested in him. And immediately perked up seeing another rabbit again. She’s been her crazy self ever since! Bonding rabbits can be awful , but sometimes you get lucky ! I got lucky twice with Petey and piper bonding super easily. Then with piper and pax bonding super easily. So I wish you good luck❤️ Petey looked very similar to Banks , but he was the “calico” so he also had orange spots. Beautiful baby.

I love this! People don’t realize how much fun rabbits are. Stasis is awful. You’ve got to watch their poops closely because by the time a bun shows symptoms, most times it’s too late. I’m so sorry for the loss of your beloved Petey. I know that pain well. It’s awful. So happy for Piper that she has another bun she bonded with. My Bonnie and Clyde are so bonded that I sincerely worry about the inevitable passing of one. Til then though, I revel in their binkys and silliness.

@@loriw2661 Petey went into stasis twice when I had him. Only 10 months. He was also only about 2 years old. And it always happened over night. I would wake up and go get their salad. And he just looked off. Always hunched in a corner. And not running to me for his salad. The first time he made it through. The second time he didn’t. I can’t stress how important not waiting is and just rushing to the vet. And having critical care on hand. Rushing him to the vet basically crying is something I never want to experience again. He was so tiny , just a little Holland lop , who was the sweetest and calmest boy ever. We rescued him , after we went to a rat / mouse feeder breeder. And we usually got pet rats and mice from them. And they looked at us as we arrived and went “want a rabbit ? Im are moving and don’t have the space for him in the new place” he was living in a dog crate outside with their Great Pyrenees. He was in a small crate inside a giant outdoor dog kennel. Where the dog stayed when it was sunny outside. (Petey and the dog were let in on rainy / cold weather. And at night. But Petey lived in the crate.) I immediately went “yes !” And since I have always been a fan on Lennon the bunny. Knew the basics. I brought him home and just immediately sat him down on the floor of my bedroom and started setting up a litter box and rabbit proofing. And he was scheduled for a well check and a neuter as soon as we could. And then my hairstylist mid appointment was like “ do you want a rabbit ?” Cause I have several pets and she knew. And after some chatting. We got her neighbors phone number. Her neighbor had a 12 week old baby they purchased 6 weeks earlier. The kids got tired and the bunny was “getting to large” she was in a tiny cage in the garage. She’s also only a LionLop. Larger than a dwarf breed yes , but not a large rabbit in slightest… Got her , that was Piper. And we did immediately place them together… and they got along perfectly. Then even as piper matured they never fought. She went and got spayed … never fought when she came back. Just immediately back to flops and snuggles together. I was expecting to have to separate them at any time. But never did. Also her beings so young and being raised by Petey basically I think Is why she took it so hard , cause she didn’t know a life with out him. Petey passed Feb 10 , 2021 so it’s very hard coming so close to that date … but it’s also surreal to think it’s almost been a year since that awful day :/

Rabbits teeth grow as fast as finger nails so if the tooth issue is that it needs trimming, that's usually not a once a year thing. If its front teeth get them trimmed every four weeks- because if they butt together with any sideways pressure the back teeth start growing unevenly and then it all goes very badly. Any teeth issues in rabbit is very serious. I've had bunnies that needed teeth trims. The more often you do it the better.
