What you said about tripods is completely true! I've tried shopping for tripods in the past, and can agree that Amazon is completely useless. I eventually found a tripod used on offerup for around $60 (a little expensive, but WELL worth it!!) the Ravelli AVTP. It's the last tripod I'll ever need. It's got an amazing stock drag head, it's super stable no matter what, and makes you feel like you're moving a TV camera around or something. The only 2 caveats to this tripod are that it's VERY heavy, and that it's expensive. Honestly, these two trade offs are completely justified for the value for money and the quality of shots you get with it. No other tripod I've used compares.

Can you make a video like this showing your methods of catching trains. Maybe talk about what scanner you use and a bit about the basics of scanners and talk about ATCS.

Very informative video….could you possibly make a photography/videography basics video for those getting into photography specifically around trains? It would be really helpful knowing how to adjust the shutter speed/ISO/Aperture specifically for trains

Not many point this out there but with your tripod but make sure your angles are well angled, before a train comes, check your camera screen make sure your shots aint off angle or cricked to the side since it will involve cropping to put in the perfect angle position. Many may not see this as a problem but I see this no good for myself haha. I'm always the angle professionest

The one shot of the Engineer paddling the train. I have the same engine in HO scale. #5608 Pretty good video overall. I have a tripod that I’m yet to use track side but I use it for my model review videos and it works pretty well. I’m yet to actually go out and use an actual camera yet. Just a IPhone loaded up with train videos lol.

Very well put. Also, if you or anyone else are looking for ideal camcorder and/or tripod upgrades, the Sony FDR-AX53 and the Cayer BV30L fluid head tripod are what I've been using for my most recent videos. The AX53 is around $1100 and The BV30L is around $150, but both are currently serving me well and, in my opinion, are well worth the price. I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking to step up their overall video quality and fine-tune their techniques.

heavy weight is definitely good for videography, a lot of railfans prefer lightweight but it’s better to use heavyweight, because of this is trains cause heavy shaking to the ground so it’s better to use something heavy, I’m about to get a heavyweight manfrotto tripod and manfrotto fluid head soon.

I have a tripod that is like almost identical when panning with the BOGEN 3001. I actually bought it off Amazon (surprisingly) it was a 6.5 foot panhead tripod and it works so well. The tripod brand is Mactrem and it’s called a “PT-80” it’s a very good and smooth panhead tripod.
