@@snapchat7293Even Toyota are managed by humans, and humans are all prone to errors. I experienced one of this errors from a Toyota dealership. They didn't tighten one of my wheels correctly, then suddenly I saw this wheel overtaking me faster than a racing car. When I contact Toyota, it was the fault of mister nobody, they even stopped replying my messages or calls. Needed to file a case against them in Department of Trade and Industry, to get them being serious in the matter. But even so, they're General manager and her employees, tried to input the mistakes to us. What? I came to service my car in your official dealership, you changed my brake pads, then suddenly my wheel go away and that's my mistake ? They invented crazy stories and theories to blame us of their mistakes. At the final, the lawyer if this Toyota dealership made a mistake in the papers, which disqualified them automatically from winning anything. Suddenly they were ok to negotiate it. These people are only here to make business, they don't care about you or your car, once they sold one to you.

How it's handled if you are an ordinary punter and not a YT influencer would be the real test, so I would take this particular outcome with a Ranger rear tray full of salt. The fact that it has happened to three of the same model from a relatively small samle size suggests an issue back at the factory when Darren on the assembly line's brain receptors run low on Nicotine and he's hanging for a smoko so goes short on the diff fluid so he can get on the douche flute faster. This all sounds very familiar. Not a Raptor. Not even a current gen Ranger. But we had a 2017 PX2 Wildtrak for work. Towed a braked, 1 tonne trailer regularly. Did a lot of driving. But all pretty standard. Anyway. We blew not one, but two gearboxes. The auto. Luckily under warranty. But my experience dealing with Ford in Geelong left a bit to be desired. Front of house staff not too bad, but the head mechanic and management, oh boy… Anyway. Engines and gearboxes on pallets all over the shop there. And the amount of PX1-3 Rangers and BT50s you see on tilt trays is pretty alarming. Long story short, they didn’t have a proper, dedicated transmission cooler. On the third trans, we got an aftermarket one installed. Saw highway speed trans fluid temps drop from 95 to 65 degrees. Much more inline with the competitors. Just wild to me that they didn’t have proper coolers up front.. Good luck. Ford, they circled the problem!

Presumably it's the same diff, so if the Amarok has similar problems then there's obviously a design flaw. However if the Amarok doesn't have these problems, that could suggest VW is better at filling the diff with the right amount of oil at the factory and/or VW pre-delivery inspections are more thorough than Ford's.

Back in 1994 (basically just after modern man stood upright) I purchased a manual VR Commodore 'S' with a LSD. It would physically lift the rear of the car when in reverse and grind and pop and bang. Also the car would stay fixed in place on steep hills with the clutch depressed and no brakes applied... From very early on I might add. Dealer could never find a problem apparently. Until one day when the car jumped about a metre and a half to the left coming out of a right hand corner and nearly threw me into some very large trees. At that point myself and a family member demanded a solid solution to the issue the dealer 'couldn't replicate'.They ordered a replacement diff after finally (ie they hadn't looked before....) draining the oil in the diff and finding it cooked and full of metal. Service manager had to apologise and admitted they'd dismissed my numerous complaints because I was 22 at the time and their service department categorised me as a 'young whinging hoon' who was making the whole issue up. Clearly that wasn't the case. New diff worked as designed.

I've also noticed that the raptor and rangers 2L biturbos has been downgraded to wet-type timing belts instead of timing chains which were seen in the 2.2 and 3.2 L phased out variants. I guess the purpose of that was to make the ride more smoother but at a cost of course.

Hi Paul, great video as usual. Sorry to hear about your problematic Raptor. I got my Raptor December, I have thrashed the thing! Very rough 4x4ing, mud holes, jumping over sand dunes at high speeds, driving over speed humps at 120+ kph and I've been lucky enough to have no problems except for a headlight warning that got "updated/cleared" at first service. I have just over 10k kph on it and loving it.

Love to see if the oil is braking down after the clutches have been put under stress after a few thousand kilometres of use. Probably start using a different oil or the preloade on the clutches could be out of spec from factory. Plus that on and off throttle whine is more like crow an pinion bearing. Lack of oil will definitely cause those issues.
@cmoneyuser
@cmoneyuser Жыл бұрын
I think the issue is less brand specific, & more pre-delivery specific with lots of new cars over the past couple of years. If it passes a test drive without the wheels falling off, good to go. None of them seem to check oil levels, bolt tensions, wheel alignment, noises & rattles etc, it's up to the customer to complain if they notice something, & in most cases it will get missed. Saves plenty of $ by cutting corners & relying on most customers not noticing or questioning even if they do.

Word of advice for anyone that has an issue with their new vehicle. Don't add diagnostic jobs with your service booking and expect it to be fixed the same day, because the service work goes to the apprentices/low trained service techs. It's fine to add the jobs, but dont expect any real diagnostics to be done the same day as your service. If you want an issue looked at properly, only book it in for that issue. It will then go to an actual diagnostic tech that has more than half a brain. Also, if it's not a simple issue, then it's normal for it to not be rectified the same day because sometimes the brands technical assistance hotline might not have a solution the same day. At the end of the day, the service work and recalls take priority over diagnostic job's. Oh, and when making diag bookings, make sure you talk to someone and dont just book it through their dealer website. This way you can make sure any loan vehicles are extra diagnostic time will be allocated to you for your booking.

The Ford Ranger maybe an extremely popular model in the 4x4 segment. But I have to say just because it is popular does not mean it is the best. Although I admit I do like the look of the new Ford Ranger Raptor. I am very put off by the amount of "faults" and "Issues" they appear to be having not just mechanically but also electrically. If you ask a lot of mechanics they all say avoid Ford their reliability has fallen through the floor. I admit am looking at a new 4x4 and as said do really like the Raptor both in looks inside and out but, all the issues are seriously putting me off getting one. I am leaning more towards the Toyota Hilux SR5 Cruiser. Does it have all the bells and whistles that the ford has? No. Is it reliable ? It appears to be. Yes, I know there is supposedly an updated hilux coming out in 2024 but, that is 2024. I do like the look of the widebody version and although doesnt have all the bells and whistles of the Ford. Reliability to me is more important than gimmicks and additional features.

It's just a diff change due to whine( pinion backlash would have been out of wack from factory). It happens more than u think, and like others suggest some ppl wouldn't even know they have diff whine as they won't listen for it. Ford did the exact right thing here for warranty! Changed diff, no questions asked! Would have been more worried if they gave u the run around and changed oils, put additives in it to quieten it down etc. I Had diff whine happen once on one of my xr6 turbos, changed diff problem fixed under warranty. Can't say diff is rubbish as they can easily handle big hp with no issues. Could be worse toyota front diffs are known to strip the pinion teeth off them and catastrophic themselves. But toyota loyalists call this a feature and not a fault. They happily pay the toyota dealership to replace it because they are told it's their fault and they don't want to admit to their friends their indestructible prado is stuffed!
@braalo07

I am keeping my eye on the Raptor and hope to get it or the new Prado in a couple of years. But I doubt any sane person would call an issue on their vehicle, a feature. Some times people would not make noise about it if it gets fixed once. I think it is when the dealer has no clue on the fix. My 2022 Tiguan got a mechatronic replaced within 2000km, if the problem persisted, I would have made some noise for sure. 6 recall and a diff replacement is more than enough to make noise as compared to one front diff issue
@bobbob8770
@bobbob8770 Жыл бұрын
@braalo07 I think Paul needs to differentiate between recalls and updates( software) there has been just 1 recall on these vehicles and that was to do with twisted drivers seatbelt. Sure there is probably a few technical service bulitens that are out and a few software updates that will keep coming as small software glitches get sorted. All cars get these by the way. Like I was saying a whining diff from new does happen. It's all about how the dealer handles it. They did the right thing,just like your experience with your tiguan. It's if they give you the run around or more issues come up that u start to question. I had the model of prado with the dpf issue and many customers just believed Toyota when they said it was their fault for not driving it on the highway enough. I found the issue never happened if you blow the cob webs out a bit here and there. But many ppl had big problems and out of pocket heaps for a real problem the manufacturer ignored. Ford did the same with the dual clutch transmissions in fiestas etc. No manufacturer is perfect. But I do like that ford in this instance changed the diff without questioning.

Just trying to show context in the conversation, 1 bloke has diff whine in his ranger and everyone says never buy a Ford as it will fall apart. Their customer service is rubbish and they will give u the run around. Toyota literally have issues the same as every other manufacturer and now we are all Toyota bashers. I actually have a 2023 prado gxl and an older everest so get to see both sides of the camp. See how Toyota dealer handles customers as well as the Ford dealer. To be honest they are much of a muchness. Biggest thing in this instance is the diff had a whine, car looked at, diff was changed, customer wasn't given the run around or blamed. That's a win for all involved in my experience.

I’m on a ford ranger forum and the level of issues the last generation had are disturbing. I’ve also heard the same feedback from people I’ve met in the real world as well. Very disappointing to hear the new generation seems to be a repeat!

I had low rear diff fluid, which was some weird looking OEM "fluid". Changed it myself, shortly after purchasing U.S. 2023 Ranger XLT. 7K miles later, no problems.

Hey Paul, in regards to the diff issue. I have a V6 Diesel Sport model and currently getting my diff replaced by Ford. Has a minor whine at 100kph on decel, had a clunk from reverse to drive and on first take off it crunches. Hard acceleration and it makes a thump noise on back off. 9,000 klms on the car, been up the beach twice and other then that highway/town driving. I’m guessing they are all gonna have issues like this by the sounds of it.

Sounds like the same issue! Mine started as a light whine and then progressively became worse. I didn't have a clunk or any performance issues, just the noisy diff.

@@CarExpertAus It was still Drive able according to Ford. Apparently metal in the oil was found in mine, same as your report. No mention of low oil but I suspect it could be as well, they haven’t had too many diff issues in the previous models.

Gotta admit. I was looking at replacing my 2016 Colorado7 which in 7yrs has never broken anything, never let me down. It's a daily and has done lots of proper 4wding, outback corrugations. I was considering an Everest but many owner accounts many issues. Quickly changed my mind.

@@gavin047 yeh I bought a 2023 fortuner since then I got rid off the third row seats to fit all the stuff for off roading and camping with 2 kids and the missus . Once we finish I put the third row seats back on, it annoying sometime but we have to do it or it won't fit most of the stuff in the back.
