That's the legendary Ford Quality😅! If you feel that it's "disappointing" for you and your Ford dealer is obviously cognizant of the fact that you're an Automotive Journalist, can you imagine the hell that common folks would need to go through to have their Ford vehicles fixed? Now, imagine that after the warranty expires. Yeah, exactly 😂 This is the truthful content that everybody needs and other automotive channels should be making more of. Looking after the interest of the motoring public should always be top priority over any vehicle manufacturer. Great job!

@@snapchat7293Even Toyota are managed by humans, and humans are all prone to errors. I experienced one of this errors from a Toyota dealership. They didn't tighten one of my wheels correctly, then suddenly I saw this wheel overtaking me faster than a racing car. When I contact Toyota, it was the fault of mister nobody, they even stopped replying my messages or calls. Needed to file a case against them in Department of Trade and Industry, to get them being serious in the matter. But even so, they're General manager and her employees, tried to input the mistakes to us. What? I came to service my car in your official dealership, you changed my brake pads, then suddenly my wheel go away and that's my mistake ? They invented crazy stories and theories to blame us of their mistakes. At the final, the lawyer if this Toyota dealership made a mistake in the papers, which disqualified them automatically from winning anything. Suddenly they were ok to negotiate it. These people are only here to make business, they don't care about you or your car, once they sold one to you.

Hi Paul, really enjoying this series on what it's like to actually own one of these highly rated vehicles. I was also particularly interested in your service experience at the dealership. I have 2 cars serviced at one of the leading Korean manufacturer's local dealership. I always book online for a specific time prior to 9 am. My biggest annoyance is that, every time they advise that they will need the car all day and it will be ready about 4 pm. Invariably they then ring or text at about 3.30pm with a list of overpriced wiper blades or a pollen filter that is twice the price of any retail outlet, that need to be changed. They always guarantee that they have time to get it done by 4.30 and strongly remind me that they close at 5pm. I feel like it's a tactic to make you say yes to anything at that late stage of the day.

How it's handled if you are an ordinary punter and not a YT influencer would be the real test, so I would take this particular outcome with a Ranger rear tray full of salt. The fact that it has happened to three of the same model from a relatively small samle size suggests an issue back at the factory when Darren on the assembly line's brain receptors run low on Nicotine and he's hanging for a smoko so goes short on the diff fluid so he can get on the douche flute faster. Ok so my Raptor has slight diff whine at 80 on decel. It also has rough idle sometimes and the main screen does weird things, all happened from new. It now has 7000 kms. I had the first complementary service on it and I didn't even mention these issues because I am an ex ford service employee of 7 years and I can tell you I was nervous taking my Raptor in to a dealership after seeing first hand what went on. And also what didn't. I knew they would not even bother looking at an issue unless it's staring them in the face. Now I can tell you not one mechanic will check the diff oil at pre delivery inspection. Even with these mild issues I still love my Raptor and I've realised it's not a mercedes or bmw its a ford ute so I just roll with the little noises and vibrations etc.

In case anyone is interested [and it's probably an overkill, but], if one wants to specify the sound being heard (perhaps when it is not loud enough), he can do a fourier transform (FFT, apps for spectrum analysis) on either the audio input (a microphone) or an attached accelerometer (attached magnetically). (Calculating the angular velocity related to a peak in FFT would then be an exercise for some :).

Back in 1994 (basically just after modern man stood upright) I purchased a manual VR Commodore 'S' with a LSD. It would physically lift the rear of the car when in reverse and grind and pop and bang. Also the car would stay fixed in place on steep hills with the clutch depressed and no brakes applied... From very early on I might add. Dealer could never find a problem apparently. Until one day when the car jumped about a metre and a half to the left coming out of a right hand corner and nearly threw me into some very large trees. At that point myself and a family member demanded a solid solution to the issue the dealer 'couldn't replicate'.They ordered a replacement diff after finally (ie they hadn't looked before....) draining the oil in the diff and finding it cooked and full of metal. Service manager had to apologise and admitted they'd dismissed my numerous complaints because I was 22 at the time and their service department categorised me as a 'young whinging hoon' who was making the whole issue up. Clearly that wasn't the case. New diff worked as designed.

Hi Paul, your videos on the new Raptor Ranger are unreal. I would like to see how it goes off road on sand dunes as I have heard about a trans overheating problem on the new Ranger. Please do a review on the Ranger Raptor in the sand or perhaps you could even put it up against a 2023 3.6 JL Rubicon unlimited on the dunes & beach. Can't wait for your next video, I'm about to purchase a new vehicle & this could help me decide.

This all sounds very familiar. Not a Raptor. Not even a current gen Ranger. But we had a 2017 PX2 Wildtrak for work. Towed a braked, 1 tonne trailer regularly. Did a lot of driving. But all pretty standard. Anyway. We blew not one, but two gearboxes. The auto. Luckily under warranty. But my experience dealing with Ford in Geelong left a bit to be desired. Front of house staff not too bad, but the head mechanic and management, oh boy… Anyway. Engines and gearboxes on pallets all over the shop there. And the amount of PX1-3 Rangers and BT50s you see on tilt trays is pretty alarming. Long story short, they didn’t have a proper, dedicated transmission cooler. On the third trans, we got an aftermarket one installed. Saw highway speed trans fluid temps drop from 95 to 65 degrees. Much more inline with the competitors. Just wild to me that they didn’t have proper coolers up front.. Good luck. Ford, they circled the problem!

Other then that no issues with the drive train, no issues with the engine or anything else. These new cars have way to much technology for there own good.

When I took it to service at a dealership and advised them of this, they said they looked and that the squeak was a matter of opinion. This problem was never solved and it’s now bringing up more issues.

I agree its crazy. Not enough oil... thatsvery strange, as the pumps they use on the factory floor is fitted with a measuring device to the exact quantity. Think they only change the complete diff, because they knew you are from Car Expert. Replaceing the internals would have been cheeper and in less time. Glad they fixed you up. 😅😊😊

It's cheaper for Ford to replace the complete diff as they don't need to pay for the labour of a rebuild or risk questionable repair work. It is common place for manufacturers to just replace whole units and not have dealers carry out repairs.

$100k for a Raptor gets you 6 recalls, a broken diff, a rough idle and no doubt an absolute hell of a time dealing with Ford Australia to get it all sorted if you aren't a well known journalist/celeb. After a couple of service issues on my LW Focus ST and then an absolute clown show when trying to buy a SA ST I'm really glad I didn't bother, seems like nothing has changed.

I've also noticed that the raptor and rangers 2L biturbos has been downgraded to wet-type timing belts instead of timing chains which were seen in the 2.2 and 3.2 L phased out variants. I guess the purpose of that was to make the ride more smoother but at a cost of course.

Good day Paul, great videos I love to watch them even rewatched some if them. I had a 1997 Mitsubishi colt 3.0l V6, the diff also made a whining noise and the higher the speed the higher the pitch went. After changing oil and oil types and brands, and checking clearances, and bushings, it was found that the crown and pinion gears were worn down. Now I don't say this is what happened to you, just my comment. But that said, here in South Africa it is also a known fact that some suppliers will swap out new cars parts to fit on their own or a friend's car😅.

Hi Paul, great video as usual. Sorry to hear about your problematic Raptor. I got my Raptor December, I have thrashed the thing! Very rough 4x4ing, mud holes, jumping over sand dunes at high speeds, driving over speed humps at 120+ kph and I've been lucky enough to have no problems except for a headlight warning that got "updated/cleared" at first service. I have just over 10k kph on it and loving it.

Love to see if the oil is braking down after the clutches have been put under stress after a few thousand kilometres of use. Probably start using a different oil or the preloade on the clutches could be out of spec from factory. Plus that on and off throttle whine is more like crow an pinion bearing. Lack of oil will definitely cause those issues.

I think the issue is less brand specific, & more pre-delivery specific with lots of new cars over the past couple of years. If it passes a test drive without the wheels falling off, good to go. None of them seem to check oil levels, bolt tensions, wheel alignment, noises & rattles etc, it's up to the customer to complain if they notice something, & in most cases it will get missed. Saves plenty of $ by cutting corners & relying on most customers not noticing or questioning even if they do.

It'll be interesting to see if the Amarok has the same problem with their diffs as the Ranger. Presumably it's the same diff, so if the Amarok has similar problems then there's obviously a design flaw. However if the Amarok doesn't have these problems, that could suggest VW is better at filling the diff with the right amount of oil at the factory and/or VW pre-delivery inspections are more thorough than Ford's.
