My reaction hearing Henk Poort for the first time! (The Sound Of Silence)

It was Floor's turn on the couch and have the others sing to her, so Henk is singing this for her. He learned the vocal distortion specifically for this song and for Floor. It's a real no-no in opera singing. Henk is a baritone but he's up in tenor range towards the end of the song. The man is a beast of a singer. He was also the the phantom for many years in the Dutch production of "Phantom of the Opera".

Greetings from Germany...Henk sings this as a special for Floor. He puts that grasp, rough, growl tone to it, unusual for him as an opera singer. Especialy for Floor, nice, isn't he.. Floor sang a song for Henk before. Very impressive, no one of them thought that Floor can sing that way.. It's an old operettic folksong called "Die lustige Witwe". Nice city and... the home of the late Rudolf Schock, a famous German tenor from the past who sang a lot of operettas, probably also the part of Graf Danilo in "Die lustige Wittwe"! Ich erinnere mich ein kleines Jugoslavisches Restaurant an eine große Platz in Düren, wo die ganze Familie damals herrlich gegessen hat. Zum Schluss gab es Juliska Likör und Sliwowitz (für meine Eltern...). Herzlige Grüßen aus Voorschoten, wir sind Nachbarn von Wassenaar!

Floor and Henk became friends during the show, and they have continued their cooperation - luckily for us. On Floor's solo shows (spin off of this show), Floor and Henk does some duets, including Phantom of the Opera and Sweet Curse - they are phenomenal together, because Henk has the power to follow Floor, and their voices match perfectly together. There will soon be a YT release from the last show - free of charge, because Floor crowd funded it, so it could be free!!! That's dedication to the music! And great reaction from you 👍

!n Dutch, uncle is oom. On the show, Henk was called "ome Henk" multiple times especially by Floor. In Dutch, "ome" is an endearing term for a much older man who is not family who you have let into into your intimate circle, implying he is like family to you. It does not matter if you are male or female or something else. There is nothing equivalent for aunt (tante) so speculate away! So in sense you are incorrect because "ome" is never a literal uncle (=oom). But more generally you are correct because I seem to remember that English has more ambiguous meanings for aunt and uncle, not restricting them to family. I remember my "aunt Iris" taking me to Canterbury cathedral as a small boy. She was no relation at all, just a friend of my parents.

Listen to Anneke van Giersbergen on the dutch tv show Beste Zangers 2021 She sings "Sobreviviré". She translated the song into english. Anneke is the godmother of dutch female metal music. Floor also looked up at Anneke. They are also friends...Also listen to Karsu on the show Beste Zangers 2021 with the song "Hije de la luna".. Andrew L. Hi Angel D! Great reaction! I can't remember if I said previously but Henk was allegedly Andrew Lloyd Webber's favourite Phantom and Floor has been a lifelong fan of his. She only agreed to be in the Beste Zangers show because Henk had already agreed to be in it. Some of my favourite performances in that season were Henk and Floor singing for each other. As others have pointed out, Henk and Floor have become good friends since then and Henk has appeared on stage at some of Floor's solo shows.

Of course uncle Henk is a great gentleman and almost legendary baritone in Netherlands. He played the Eric's role in Phantom's Dutch production. Here he sings to Floor, and used distortion just for her. It's not his thing at all, so his head turned almost alarmingly red. 😠😅👍

Henk seems to have a lot of trouble saying/singing the word visions (twice. I'm sure he's heard the word before. Singers usually don't mispronounce the words they're singing often. He's also using too much vibrato in that it's too wide. So much so that you can't tell what note he's actually singing, and that it actually interferes with his singing & pronunciation. He should have softened that early on, but he was fine later in the song. He has a wonderful voice and tone. Good job.
