I didn't know you dropped out of college. I myself am having a hard time continuing college and figuring out what path I want to continue in moving forward. If you haven't talked about it already i'd love to know what you do now and about what your experience with college was like 💜

I did the same thing when I was in college - arrived early so that I could carve out some “me” reading time versus reading for class, which was done at home or on the bus out to campus. And my 2021 reading goal is it allow myself to DNF a book. I feel so bad about quitting a story in the middle, but it really hindered my total reading this year, as I would then just....not read to avoid That Book.

I'm a full time college student and I definitely spend more than 40 hours a week studying or in class but also I have literally no social life since the pandemic so I still read 3 or 4 books a week. I just do most of my reading on the weekends

After 7 years of college, I lost that ability to focus & read just because of all the work required for school. So now, *any* reading I'm able to do I count as a positive--like you said, if you read, you're a reader, however it fits in your schedule/life

Every time I watch a video from you, it’s usually when I’m not reading as voraciously as I usually do. And every time, I am launched back into my bookshelf thinking, “okay, which one of you will re-inspire me now that she has me all excited?” Thank you for that 🤎

Thx for this video! I sometimes feel so stressed because being a student can really be like a fulltime job and additionally having several hobbies like piano (including piano competitions), as well as drawing, painting and journaling while finding time to read can sometimes even be burdensome! So thank you for reminding me that reading is supposed to be an enjoyment and not a pressure and that I should be proud no matter what! ❤️💜💗 ily so much, you really made my day!

When you said you were a college dropout you gave me hope. I’m a college freshman and I’m not feeling it. I’m unsatisfied with my teachers, the school, and this expensive education that seems on par with a mediocre high school. I’d love to know how you survive as a drop out because people SWEAR you just can’t do anything and will die without a degree. I don’t believe it and you prove that’s not true. So I’d love to hear about your journey. I need all the help I can get.

I think if college isn't for you then don't force it, but for me, I've been working since I was 16. I'm currently 18 and a freshman in college like you. It's hard and frustrating sometimes, but I don't want to have to work in a field I don't enjoy and climb up the ladder just to be able to move out. I don't want to struggle to pay my car insurance every month working a job that I don't enjoy. College doesn't guarantee a job. You still have to job hunt and work for it, but you're more likely to start at a higher pay or be able to advance quicker and/or further in the field of your choice if you work for it.
@LiyareadsYA
@LiyareadsYA 4 жыл бұрын
@@explicitlyme7497 Exactly! I don’t want to struggle, I’m just wanting to carve a path of my own. With tradition not working for me I’ve just been trying out other things on the side. I’m in the process of getting my degree but working really hard on the things I do care about and actually want to do. So I get what you mean by that. I agree hard work will definitely help me along. It’s just finding that balance between jumping through the hoops society creates and still doing something I love.

I have to be so intentional in my reading now. I'm a full time teacher with 2 children under 5. My reading fell off a cliff for a while but lockdown gave me an opportunity to get back on it this year. I read on my phone while putting my 2 yr old to sleep and listen to audiobooks whenever I can. I joined an online book group with really easy challenges mood reader wise. Prompts like purple on the cover, 250 words or under, set in the country you live in. Lots of scope to find something that fits while reading what you want.

My reading habits keep changing as I try to balance work and other hobbies. For reading, daily I try to read at least one chapter from a novel, one superhero comic book and one article from a magazine. I sometimes alternate sci-fi, fantasy, thriller, and romance for novel reading. I try to be well-rounded :-)

You dropped out of college, but at least you have a full time job ☺️ College was stressful mainly because of the lack of financial aid and the anticipation of student loans. I pretty much stopped reading after high school because I just didn’t have the time or mental energy to read, but I miss it. So since I dropped out of college this past semester, I’m getting back into it and, strangely enough, I thought people would judge me for how I read. I was insecure about the fact that I needed to be listening to an audiobook while reading along in order to focus (I have ADD). I thought that was childish. But booktube has helped me realize that first, a lot of people do this, and second, who cares?! So now I’m either listening to audiobooks while I’m working, as long as I don’t have to talk to people or answer phones that day, or listening to audiobooks while following along with a physical or ebook and OMG I LOVE IT. Although I may have DNFed my first book but we’re not gonna talk about that...onward and upward!

Hey Naia! Loved the video. Once you said you dropped out of college, I was wondering if you found getting a job without the "fancy college degree" harder, if you had the right opportunities and connections, or if it didn't make any difference? It seems nowadays that uni and college are the only ways to get good jobs, but it's so comforting to see people who are still successful (however you choose to measure that) without that. Makes me less scared of being undecided too 😅

I struggle with balancing writing and reading. Its at the point where I have a book I read for fun and to relax and one I read to study and analyze the writing and story telling of the author.
