I had a fucked up credit around 400 because i did bad financial decision when I was 18. When I decided to take my credit serious, capital one was the only bank who gave me a 2nd chance with the regular debit card, i was able to build up my credit to 700. Forever loyal to capital one.

Any charges that an authorized user makes count only towards the primary cardholders account. Meaning their charges count toward your $4k min spend AND all the points are also yours as the primary cardholder. BONUS... you can add up to 3 authorized users for FREE! Good luck!

The thing I love about the VX is how usable of a card it is with the 2x multiplier. No other high end travel card has that, and the Amex Platinum is only 5x on flights and some Amex booked hotels. If I'm dropping hundreds of dollars every year for a credit card, I want to be able to use it. The only other card I see that can really compete is the Altitude reserve.

Agreed, I think the play for the AR is with their multipliers on mobile wallet and travel purchases, but the total net return is still greater with the VX, considering you'll still earn more points with 2x in the aggregate even when mobile wallet isn't available

The only thing I can complain about is having no domestic airline partners If it can get a United/American or even a JetBlue/Southwest I really can't see a good argument for any better card

You can redeem miles for any of the mayor alliances partners of United and American, like Canada Aeroplan and British Airways, respectively

A couple of other great benefits include adding up to 3 authorized users for FREE and the fact that all of those authorized users get the lounge benefits( lounge access + up to 3 guests?). Also, Escape Lounges (most but not all) are now available to Priority Pass members which adds yet another lounge network to VX cardholders to go with Capital One lounges, Priority Pass and Plaza Premium. Personally I would just go for upgrading the card to the Venture X if it's offered by Capital One. That way you wouldn't incur a hard credit pull and all your card info stays the same, and it's less of a hassle in general. Only drawback is of course the no sign-up bonus when upgrading (unless it's offered)

Thanks for the response! I’m thinking about switching the regular Venture I have ($95 annual fee) to the Venture One ($0 annual fee), do you think that’s ok?

Cannot get approved for the VX. I have had the C1V for a year. Too many revolving open accounts, allegedly! ;(. Looking forward to the day I can get the C1VX!!!

Capital One VX have some good benefits, I am just not a fan of their transfer partners. Thats the only reason I am sticking with CSR. If C1 add more domestic transfer partners like a hyatt, southwest, united etc......, I would easily cancel the CSR for it.

Some finer points: when you book flights thru travel portal. Your ticket is the lowest fare class that airlines want to charge you for even selecting a seat, not good seat, any seat in advance. Upgrade to premium Econ or business classes you might as well buy the full fare for that class because you will be asked to pay as much to upgrade if they allow you. I was told once that the fare class is so low they will charge full price for upgrades. Enough said.

Thanks for the videos! My wife just got approved for the venture x. Should she add me as an authorized user or will that prevent me from ever getting the sub? I currently have the venture and plan on downgrading it when I hit a year.

As far as I'm aware, being an authorized user does not prevent you from being eligible for the sign-up bonus once you apply. Now of course, when you apply for the card outright instead of upgrading your Venture, it will be a hard inquiry on your credit report, and you will have to be removed as an authorized user from the other Venture X prior to applying for it.

I picked this up in July of last year and though I rotate 8 cards based on offerings this is my most used card passing my Citi Costco Visa last year despite only using it half the year. I don't get much benefit from the lounges since I fly mainly out of Midway which does not have one. Cell phone protection is useless for me since Verizon forces you to use checking or their card (I do have). Actually pretty much all of the other benefits are not of use to me including the portal as I usually book elsewhere... I get my main benefit from the points and credits alone.

If you transfer the points and book a flight with an airline partner, does that mean you won’t be able to utilize the $300 credit since it wasn’t booked in the portal?

Nope, they're actually independent of each other so if you transfer your miles to an award partner you still have your full $300 travel credit entitlement to use on Capital One Travel

At 33:29 I go through an example of a point transfer, but once you've moved the points over to an award partner, you'll want to go on that award partner's website to look at award ticket availability. There are some other videos on my channel in which I go through how to do this in detail as well.

It can be used on anything you see on Capital One Travel, and as you probably know, expires on anniversary date of the card, so you gotta make sure you use it before it expires!

Capital one says they will not waive annual fee for active duty. Did you receive the waived fee if so how?

He stated that he upgraded his card. Probably can assume he upgraded a card that he held prior to active duty.

Right, so I had the Capital One Venture before going on active duty and then upgraded it to the Venture X which is covered under SCRA benefits. That being said, with both my Chase and AMEX cards, they applied SCRA benefits even though for some of the cards I applied after being on active duty. Basically, the issuer can decide to do what they want even though the policy for MLA is during AD and SCRA is credit applied before. My recommendation is that if you are on active duty and trying to build a setup, I would start with the AMEX lineup because once you get your first one, they don't do a hard pull again when you apply for their other products. The Venture X is obviously a great offering that pays for itself even without the annual fee waived, but if you're looking specifically for cards that waive the fee for applying while on active duty, that's what I would consider.

New subscriber here. I see you have the Costco Card & use it for gas. Would you still use it for gas or swap it for the VX since you can get more value from the VX using transfer partners? I was thinking about getting the US Bank AR so I can get 4.5% back at Costco and Costco gas when using mobile wallet. Not sure if that would be better for domestic flights or if the CSR would be the better domestic value w/ the 1.5 bonus. Thoughts?

The US Bank Altitude Reserve is one of the best plays for Costco. That's what I'd personally use if I had the card, but since I don't, I usually just use the Costco Rewards Citi card for the 5% back on Costco Gas since the multiplier on gas is just 2x for the VX. If you consider that the award redemption potential for the VX or CSR or any of the cards that offer transfer partners, it would technically be advantageous to put all your purchases on one of those for maximum potential value, but again, I usually just stick with using my Costco card for gas since it's convenient and the margin in award potential for the limited amount of money I spend on gas is negligible.

How does one tell cap 1 that even if I had a phone I would not give them the number. My email and snail mal addresses have worked fine for all the crap they say a phone can provide me for the last thirty years. I would appreciate it if they would stop harassing me for one.
