My Review of the SJRC F11 GPS Drone - It is a Good Drone for the Price!

I received the F11 GPS as a gift this Christmas. I've had less than 5 minutes of drone flying time until now. This drone is amazing. I have found it very easy to fly and very forgiving of mistakes. The app does take some getting used to. But overall, I highly recommend it. Photos and video quality is great for me. Mine came with 2 batteries and a hard case. After receiving it, I started KZbin-ing videos and found Captain Drone. I'm hooked!

One thing to keep in mind, the drone factory settings is Beginner Mode. Beginner Mode restricts you to a 30 meter altitude, 30 meter flight distance and a 25 meter return altitude. Now, even out of beginner mode, it restricts you to 120 meter altitude. I put the beginner settings to the test. I flew it out to 37 meters out, and on its own, it started flying backwards until it got back to 29 meters.

Oh my gosh! your F11 Review is finally here! this was a great review yet again. I do apologize you hear me say this all the time but your reviews are detailed, fast, and full of happiness and enthusiasm. That's really appreciated. I did a review on this drone the other day as well. i find you saying the same thing I said in my review "the build quality" I was impressed with that as well. it's sturdy and isn't flimsy or cheap. The z5 was more of a toy grade, this one is more of a entry level serious quad.

more to my comments (and hope it is of some benefit): 1. you warn us to be careful pressing and HOLDING the auto take-off/landing as that activates the emergency stop. Yes, IT STOPS THE MOTORS AND DROPS LIKE A ROCK! so be very careful with it. I doubt that you can recover if that's not what you meant to do. Kiss it goodbye. (I was lucky) 2.The beeping while activating most functions is irritating but I found it to be a good warning that something was still turned on. 3. I bought a white one, and put different markings using multicolor tape on each side (different patterns) to tell which way it is pointing. 4. takes good photos and video, even in the wind, but gets choppy with gusts. thanks for your vids!

Yes I just bought one. My first. Will try when charge batteries. I think for the price is hell of great. Folds, built good, flights long, and decent camera. I have been seeing people say they can take out the camera lens and change em. If this is all true you can not compare to a drone of $700. Bought mine in Cambodia for 160$.

This is a great drone. Lots of fun. The nice thing is that it is almost identical to the RUKO F11 Pro and the nice thing is you can interchange batteries. What I found in my RUko included a business cand which allowed me to get a FREE battery just by putting a review on amazon about the drone and a copy of my purchase receipt. SO.. I have 4 batteries for the 2 drones which gives me about an 1.5 hours of flight time. I have been flying it in my back yard a lot and it is very easy to navigate all of my obstructions... shed, 3 ham radio antenna and neighbors houses. I bought this drone for the price and the good reviews. As the reviewer stated it will get better as the software for flying gets better but for now it is still great. Hope to see some software / firmware updates soon.

I have to say for a beginner drone...quad $149 is tough to beat for the quality. I find the biggest weakness with these budget drones is range, video, stabilization and software but it is getting impressive even compared to a year ago what you can get for cheap! You can't even buy a phantom or Mavic 2 battery for that!

I read somewhere there are three versions of this, Basic, Pro 500, and Pro 800. I think the pro versions have higher res cameras, the 500 has a shorter range than the 800.

I have one of these. It's a slow quad with a boring camera and not much else. If you want to experience taking sharp and breathtaking images, you'll get the experience but not much else. It has GPS and the important feature; return to home function. Which, I believe, beginners should consider for their first drone. It's rate of descent is molasses slow. And it looks like that DJI quad that everyone takes beautiful videos on the utubes with. Which I guess is the appeal. And that's about it. It's a quad I would hand over to my grandma to take aerial pictures of rosebushes in her backyard. She's never flown one before but I think after a few minutes with it, she'll be hooked. To be fair, I'm biased because I have other quads with more powerful motors and my style of flying is low and fast and not slow steady eddie. I hope she likes it.

I bought this drone in Nov 19. We had a really wet winter down here in GA so I didn’t get a whole lot of flying time. as weather warmed up and we had more nice days I was enjoying flying around. Then coronavirus hit and I had tons of time on my hands and flying a few times a week. Last week, while flying in GPS mode, the damn thing just started ascending. It wouldn’t respond to commands and I frantically pressed return home, and I watched as the drone went higher and north until out of sight. It was a full charge on the controller and drone. No telling how far that thing went. It could be in friggin Chattanooga. I read a couple of reviews that stated that had happened but there were more 4 & 5 star reviews that I decided to chance it. $300 literally flew away.

This is my first drone and have a lot of time flying it. The camera is ok but wobbly. It's kinda rare to get the F11 in 2.4GHz version so I got the 5GHz instead but my android phone is too old for 5GHz wifi so I made a contraption out of my spare dual-band wifi router and set it as wifi repeater and it works and also extends it range too but it has some delay about 1 second on the video that is why I crashed it on a coconut tree and broke its arms. I repaired it and it works until the battery swells. Then I moved to dji mini 2. I'm planning buy a new battery for the F11, maybe soon.

Love this drone . It is my first drone , went out flying , it was so much fun. It flies well when it is windy. Glad I bought extra batteries, I flew for over an hour, you can get a feel for it pretty good in that amount of time. I don't have a good phone yet , I am sure that will really be fun to film. Have just received my SJRC Z5 but haven't flown due to very cold weather. I'm impressed with build quality. Have wondered how much alike/different the Z5 and F11 are. Your review helped a lot. Poss. DIY project: swap out the camera in either/both for a good gimbaled or EIS stabilized action camera. Then you'd have a real winner!

I fly a lot of drones that record in 1080 P and and 720 P but the device I’m recording to my iPhone is in 4K so the recording comes out much better than what the drone can actually do now whatever goes to the SD card is what you get1080 P that’s with the SD card gets up at 720 P that’s what the SD card gets but your device can alter that so set your phone at the highest quality resolution and whatever records to the phone will come out in that quality

What Land and Lore Photography said is 100% true. And also when you do screen recording the screen recording is always lower quality anyway. I even tested this and the phone quality was always way worse than the SD card. Also even if your phone is 4k you need 4k content to activate the 4k like watching a KZbin video in 4k. The drone camera is only going to project 1080p to your 4k display and will only be 1080p and when you record screen may look a little grainier than 1080p at that.

That’s my bed after further review on the camera from my drone I took it apart examined it turns out it’s 1080 P camera which means I was getting a higher quality than I expected gotthe drone over eBay Promark GPS contacted seller seller said he had done some modifications to it which I was not aware of.

It's a great drone and super cheap at 70 bucks and gives you a lot of drone and the vr headset for that price. I did two episodes of reviews on it but I gotta do the flight test I've been a little busy haha.

I bought one of the f11’s I really enjoy it. I had a hard landing the other day or in other words a crash and the camera stopped working. I took it apart and it hits partially a design flaw the flat information wire broke it has a weight around it and I’m thinking if that wasn’t like that it probably wouldn’t have broke. I’m trying to get a replacement camera. But I’m a beginner to drones and this is perfect for that. Thank you.

Steve another excellent video! You're giving me to many choices to seriously look at for my wife's first drone. There just seems to be a wealth of new GPS drones flowing out of China right now. The camera was the only thing that did not impress, maybe just the weather while you were outside filming. I like it and the flight time is just killer on this thing. It rivals DJI and actually passes the Air so they have it together with their batteries. The Price, just another reason to seriously consider this Drone. Keep bring them, choice is always a good thing especially when looking at a starter sit up . If lost at least it will not break the bank.

No idea. You may see 360 at your end but others may see 4K. KZbin has to make a version of the video in every resolution and the pass that around to servers around the world. Could be a problem with servers in your geographic location.

Connection depends on where you fly, what time you fly, and what device you use (type of phone or tablet). Everyone will get different results. 138 meters is not that far which means you are getting interference from other sources and your Phone is not handling the interference very well. If you have a case on your phone, remove it. There are products on the market called WiFi Boosters that will extend your range.

@@dronetumulud for me I flew this with a lot of interference like homes with wifi and electric cables etc and I easily get stable FPV at 500-650 meters. In open area with less interference I got between 611-704 meters. I'm also using a Samsung Galaxy Note 9. When I use things like my older Asus AR and iPhone 8 plus I got way less live view range.

The main (and only thing) that this drone along with the Z5 that WINS my pick is the ability of the camera to tilt! With many other budget drones, such as Hubsan 501, the camera is fixed. I just got my Z5 and I having loads of fun! Bought it at Geekbuying. Seems cheaper to buy there compared to Ebay ot Amazon, And they do have these in white! really cool!

As usual a very satisfying Good technical review from you Capt. but I am Really having 2nd thoughts of buying this right now since I heard there is another new one coming out soon the ZLRC BEAST or SG906 with higher specs than F11 it claims a 4K camera with EIS but with almost same price design and build seems pretty same as durable but I'm waiting for some review of the actual performance and image quality of this new drone hope you get one of these on hand soon and make some reviews which will make me. Decide whether I'm going for F11 or the SG906. Thanks. 😎

Be careful, the beast drone is only 4 k for photo not video. The beast is also only 7.4 volt ,not 11.1 so probably not as good in the wind. The range is also less. Remember you can stabalize video in post.

To get the high HD video is only found on iphone or SD card. If you use a SD card and view the video on your computer, the video is much higher.

My friend just lost his SJRC F11 yesterday. Camera just stopped feeding, he hit RTH but it fly the other way and totally lost control. He tried to follow the guide on how to find lost drone but the map shows that his drone is on another place, away from direction where the drone was actually flying to...

Nice review! Regarding the video resolution: I think there might be two possible explanations for it - The output of the video (FHD) is the software stabilized version of the 2K video. So the camera is capable of sensing 2K, but it only outputs FHD. - The 2K resolution is if you record directly to your phone. I am leaning towards the first option as they mention flight environment and conditions in the manual.

Range depends on WiFi signal to phone for video signal. If you have a Marvel Comics phone, then you'll get video over 1000 meters. :-)

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Captain, you look like you have the same phone as me. The Samsung Note 9? Or Galaxy S9 plus? I ask cause that is literally the best phone out with a lot of professional features such as camera, audio, display, camera modes etc. What was the distance you were able to get? Cause if you didn't get it to go that far with a note 9 or s9 then someone with anything less isn't getting too far. The app flight parameters let you increase it to 1200 yes but I'm wondering could I even get 500 meters with my note 9 and keep FPV video. I'll be flying this drone all weekend and all week to further test it and get info about it and post my findings.

My phone is the Samsung Note 8. I did not see any preferences in the App to increase range. Perhaps that is in a different model? If you fly without FPV, the range is much more of course. It is the video signal that kills the range. I could get around 300 meters with my phone on the day I tried. On a different day it may be better or worse.

But yes I'm the upper left hand corner there is a gear icon and when you click it it goes into flight parameters and by default beginner mode is on and severely restricts the height. When you disable beginner mode you can bring range up to 1200m and height up to 120 and return to home altitude to 120m. There's no different models of this drone as of yet. I seen someone in your comments saying that but I did extreme extensive research even as far as going on Chinese websites and using my phone to convert the language to English. And there is only the sjrc f11.

This drone easily gets to 500-600 meters with stable FPV. If you're curious of range I do 2 range test one to 500 something and another in the snow to about 600. The better the phone the better the range too.

I just lost me f11 4K pro drone and I can’t find it. I literally flew it maybe 100 yards because the range stated almost 1 mile. I lost signal to my phone. When that happens does the drone auto land? I’m mad at this point. The ad said it had 800 meters of hd video transmission. I wasn’t even close to that. HELP!!! 🤷🏻‍♂️

The drone comes back to you, as long as it has battery power left. When your radio beeps it means low battery power so you'd never fly a drone far with a beeping radio. It should have come back to you if there was enough battery power but if the power was low it would land someplace along the way.

You have to open waypoint feature before u take off. If not the app will crash. It works for me on my android

Connection between the drone and your phone is all based on your phone. If your phone has terrible WiFi, then the drone will not get very far. If you have a case on your phone, take it off.

Great video. I think this is the one I would use as my mavic beater equivalent bird. What sits this apart from the JJRC X11 and MJX Bugs 4W [at least in my book] is the ability to turn off the gps to get more speed.

you can remove the camera on a Bugs B5w and zip tie your Osmo Pocket to the rubber cushioned camera mount. It works awesome. The Bugs B5w is a gps drone w/usual entry level features like RTH and app controls like follow and waypoint plotting... But that being said, when you add up the cost of the Osmo pocket and a basic gps drone (approx $500-550 usd), it seems you'd be better off buying a better drone with that budget...IMHO

Hi Capt I flew this drone for the 1st time yesterday after setting the max distance to 200m and almost lost it. It flew away like it had a mind of its own. The controller rth did not seem to work so I did it thru the phone app. What could have caused it to fly 300m even after setting the distance to 200? Thanks.

That is strange. If it hovered after take off with no movement, then the GPS was functioning. Almost sounds as if the GPS was off and it was just blowing with the wind.

I have few questions for you since you have a lot more experience than I have. First ? is what Drone do you recommend under $400. I was thinking about the SGRC F11 over the DJI Spark but I ask for your opinion first. I I think the price is better and the flight time is better but that is all my opinion. My second ? is where can I get that drone ? Do you know of any stores that sells that drone? Here in Puerto Rico we don't have many or no stores that sells Drones. Thank you Diego! The DJI Spark is a much better drone in every way compared to the F11. The F11 is more of an entry level drone where as the DJI Spark is more Pro-Entry-Level Drone. The F11 is only sold in stores in China.

One more question: I have had a sometimes strange problem : when I flight straight ahead the dron I mine I push the right button up the dron is flight on the back side to straight ahead. I loose control to flight it back to me. I just press RTH. Something wrong. I turn off drone turn on calibrate again start fly and after few minutes it's again the problem. Firmware comes from the App. Your flight control problems could be any number of things. These low cost budget drones are not made to the same standard as a quality drone, so you could have problems with the controller, the drone or even your phone.

Hey Captain Drone, did you check out the lost drone feature with gps mapping? And another thing, by default, gps mode is in beginner mode with limited distance and height. So, without the app these parameters can't be changed and you're stuck in granny mode.

I checked this lost drone mapping thing and found the drone gps locater displayed on a map. Problem is, the dot is located on grid lines and nothing else. To see more, I had to zoom out till I could recognize the landscape. But at that resolution, the entire city is displayed. So the gps locater will find it and show the general location in a very wide area, kiss that drone goodbye.

A problem with the SJRC F11 controller unit. Both battery ICONS are showing RED when the batteries are fully charged,. I can "fly blind", but without video I need to keep the F11 visual at all times. Also, the unit is not recording video or flight details. Is there a reset button for the control unit , also what are the two small holes for that are visible at the rear when the handles are unfolded ?. Could one of these a reset button or are they both microphones?. Any advice for my problem would be appreciated from you or any person that may have experienced the same problem .. Thanks ..

Help please.. i just unboxed this drone yesterday. Tested the connection to the remote and phone (iPhone X), and did a minute long test flight. It worked fine that first time. Since that first time i have tried connecting to the App on my phone several dozen times, and i can't. The Drone's WiFi isn't showing up on my phone list of WiFi networks it sees around it. I have also tried this with 2 other phones, one of which is an Android - none of them can see the drone's WiFi signal. I have disconnected all batteries from the drone, restarted the remote, and even restarted the phones. I've also deleted the App and re-installed it several times. Nothing works.. The Drone's WiFi network cannot be seen. What am i doing wrong?? Could it be that the Drone's WiFi is not working already? the drone only took off and landed 2wice, and both landings have been gentle (using the drone's Home button). please help.

That is strange. Are all the phones you tried all capable of 802.11ac WiFi? If the answer is YES, then somehow you may have told your phone to forget or ignore that Wifi, or you are not refreshing your WiFi search (on Android phones you drag down to cause it to refresh on the WiFi screen), finally the worst option is that somehow the WiFi burnt out on the drone. The WiFi is separate from the flight system so the drone should still work, but have no WiFi. So far I have had one drone in about 200 drones that this happened on.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 All the phones are 802.11 ac WiFi capable (iphone X running iOs 12.3.1, and a Moto Android) - and i did see the WiFi network that one (first and only) time yesterday. I have been scouring the web since trying to find anyone with similar issues. I found a couple of references to the WiFi not showing if one is running older versions of the App, but i downloaded it yesterday (and still deleted and reinstalled 3 more times). All signs point to the Wifi malfunctioning - but i don't get how or why. it was used exactly once, taking off and landing from my driveway, very gently. This is very disappointing. the thought of figuring out a refund or exchange with an online retailer from china is daunting..

Oh, I can imagine how dissapointing that would be. It is a rate occurence which is why you'll find little info about it. Now if a drone gets wet or hot then it is very common, that is the first thing that breaks. Very unfortunate that this occurred as it is rare to occur from normal use.

Now if i can only figure out why my drone freaks out in Follow Me mode and shoots violently back crashing into whatever is behind it.. and why the Video option shoots a time lapse, and not actual video. i'm going to scour your archives for those answers. Your joysticks seem wrong. Your controller might be in MODE 1 instead of MODE 2. I do not know how to change it.

I really enjoy your reviews and get a lot from them in kinda knowing which way too head with this drone adventure I'm heading in. I have a small sharper image drone that one can pretty much do very little with but my 5 yr old son is just amazed with it which is why I've come to get so interested in the drones.nothing better than seeing him enjoying something so I've decided to jump in and get something that I can manage now and he will eventually be able to use. But I've decided to work on getting one but I'm one of those people that if I'm gonna get something I want at least the best within my budget and that would be right at the 1000 mark.don't want to go much more than that at this time.But after watching you I have enough faith to listen to what you would think would be my best choice within that range for starting out.my opinion lay between 3 so far and that is the autel evo and the magic air or spark.I'm really undecided at this point.I want something that's not incredibly hard to control and can do the best Videos within reason.if you could give me some advice in deciding I'd really appreciate it and I'd also like to know overall what is your favorite over all other drones within that very same budget.one thing for sure....you know drones!! I would get something small in size but yet powerful and easy to fly, so my recommendation would be the DJI Mavic Air which should be within the budget you mentioned.
