The Rolls is looking stunning from when we first saw it on the channel. Well worth the effort to keep it on the road another 30yrs. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Have owned and operated many GM vehicles with that transmission (mostly Suburbans ), even with towing car trailers thousands of miles never had any issues . My friend Dave ran a fleet of 40 Caprice Taxis equiped with them for years here in Ontario Canada , the transmissions would wear out at around 250,000 miles , probably the last transmission Hydramatic produced that was truly long lasting and durable. .

I thoroughly enjoyed that! Very satisfying transmission service, this. My car in Germany had Waxoyl treatment, and I believed in its efficacy back then. Your Waxoyl helped give you that minter of a sump. I'd be keen to...cover up all that hard-fought-for handiwork...with a fresh application of Waxoyl; good for another 30 years.🤣 I hope you and Mrs. Life On Cars enjoy a restful holiday break. Mele Kalikimaka to you all. P.S: Just saw the first Rolls-Royce I've seen in a decade swanning about Honolulu the other day. It was a BMW Seven...er...a Seraph...painted a lovely shade of Magnolia. Cheers!

Very satisfying, Paul. Do you intend re-Waxoyling the transmission sump to protect it from the elements? It is amazing how the number of maintenance tasks add up to get this car back into tip-top condition. Each one is a milestone and quite a number are good for many miles to come. Once you have the car completed, it would be interesting to know how much you have spent on parts, and a tally of the hours you have put in from start to finish. Well done!

Just did my gearbox service on my l322 Range Rover with the zf6 speed, bit messy but not bad job to do. Regarding Waxoyl old stuff was good, new stuff is waste of time. Better with Lanoguard or Bilt hamber dynax UB.

Ah, that’s how “Waxoyl” is spelled! Was wondering about that. 😂

Absolutely worth the effort. Great job! I’m wondering why you took the wax-oil off if it was such a good protection. Will you be reapplying it or is it overkill? Also, that dipstick access. If ever there was a sign that the driver isn’t supposed to maintain their own car, that’s it! 😂

Good job well done, just something for you to watch out for. You may or may not know, but because mine has had work done in the past for leaks around the gearbox sump several times by Rolls Royce, I decided to look into it. It seems over time the sump bolts tend to work loose and periodically need to be checked for tightness, mine is leaking again!

Very important to service automatic gearboxes. Did you put sump gasket on dry? It looked a substantial gasket so imagine it will tighten up on and seal properly.

A thoroughly good job thoroughly done Paul. Just one query. The dip stick said Dexron II and you used a Full Synthetic. Is it compatable? I had trouble getting Dexron II for my Austin 3 litre but found a Castrol Classic TQF which fitted the bill. I bought a 20L container as it is recommended for the P.S. too. I think you should have polished that trans. sump with metal polish until you see your face in it. 😜 Personally with the pampered use the car will get I wouldn’t put Waxoyl back on the sump. It will make it easier to service next time. It’s great that you can do a full trans, service, not like modern cars that are ‘sealed for life’, HA HA.

Same as used in millions of chevy PU trucks. Except that you will not find a drain plug on the pan. Changing the filter is guaranteed the messiest job you will ever do.

By any chance, are you related to James May? I'm surprised you haven't given the bolts names. Why remove some protective wax oil that should be there. Just spray more over it. Finally, get on with it. Watching paint dry ring a bell.
