Two gorgeous RRs and a lovely gentleman. Very enjoyable, many thanks.
@richardstamper56307 күн бұрын
Thanks for that, very enjoyable. I just sold my Continental R after 3 years, two weddings (both Son's) and a European tour. In the main it was extremely reliable but don't go thinking these cars are cheap to run, they are hand built and the older they get the more things start to wear out, rust or simply give up. Ownership is a real commitment but I am glad I did it for a short while.

I havd owned a silver shadow and a silver spirit. The silver cloud again is an absolute legend of a car. Probably purchase another one in a year or so. They are just something else. The cars in this video 📹 are just gorgeous . Great video 📹 Paul 😊😊😊😊😊

5:56 Watching him open and close the writing desk with care and respect was a treat! Most car-tour videos show the host jerking open and slamming shut panels, flopping into seats, fiercly jabbing and twisting switchwork, cranking handles hard and torquing levers: I cringe at the rough treatment throughout. I grit my teeth when my mechanic slams the gear-selector lever in my SSII.

What you term "rough treatment" should be no more than normal usage for any car and they should be engineered to withstand it. And to regard oneself as a "custodian" rather than an owner is ludicrous. Mate, you own a car not a holy relic. This is taking car ownership into the realm of the ridiculous.
@bobtepedino5661Күн бұрын
@@7ismersenne It's not the car- it's the people. An emission-testing tech sat in the driver's seat of my Imperial LeBaron with a screwdriver poking out of his rear pocket, deeply scratching the otherwise-perfect 60 year-old hide. That was AFTER he bent the hood ornament, mistaking it for the bonnet release. A state inspector levered himself from my Continental Mark III by pushing on the center armrest, which broke the 55 year-old bracket. An insurance appraiser leaned into the engine compartment of my Silver Shadow, allowing his belt buckle to scratch a large chip out of the original painted coach stripe, something that is literally irreplaceable. A jerk at a car show decided to operate the convertible hood of my Maserati which shattered the glass of the rear window, requiring me to have the car towed 130 miles home. I'm not complaining - I'm just trying to illustrate that the "normal usage" most people would inflict upon a modern car often constitutes "rough usage" for a vintage collectible.
@7ismersenne22 сағат бұрын
@@bobtepedino5661 Well I guess that car as "vintage collectible" is well on the road to car as "holy relic". In view of the nearly unbelievable series of accidents that have apparently afflicted your fleet of vintage collectibles, it seems that they should all be consigned to climate controlled glass cases, in other words, kept as museum pieces. Moreover, I think you would agree that letting mechanics, technicians or even ordinary gawkers anywhere near these exhibits is at the very least to invite trouble. 😄
@bobtepedino566110 сағат бұрын
@@7ismersenne Yes, owning nice things means confronting the reality of why most people DON'T have nice things... Many of my nice cars have been perfectly practical daily drivers but still require some considerations, just like my old dogs. For instance: push in the release button while pulling on the handbrake: THAT has kept my FIAT's handbrake pawl in good shape and I expect to never have any trouble with it.

What a piece of art. Thank you Paul for this video and to you John, thank you for being such a top notch caretaker. I thought this information I googled was interesting: The original MSRP for a new 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III was $28,500. The Silver Cloud III was part of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud lineup, which was produced in three series from 1955-1966. The Silver Cloud III was one of the fastest luxury saloons of its time, with a top speed of about 120 mph and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 10 seconds. The price of a 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III can vary widely depending on its condition. The lowest recorded sale price was $16,100, while the highest was $577,500 at auction. In October 2024, a 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III sold for $137,500 at RM Sothebys in Hershey

Now in my opinion that's the car to have pure old school rolls and listen to that beautiful engine engineering at its finest and they were built to last better on a separate chassis These cars were meant to cruise not thrash totally adequate for the job I would definitely have one over the shadows brilliant for you both to bring this piece of history to people's attention

Having owned 6 Could 3s over the years, I'm a huge fan of these cars. They do, however, have an Achilles heal and that is the transmission/ braking system. Oil from the transmission eventually creeps onto the brake servo causing the brakes to become very inefficient. Also unless perfectly adjusted, braking from going forward to reverse can be a harrowing experience. Still, the best and most beautiful Rolls-Royce ever produced. As point of interest, if your could has a Borg-Warner trans, it must have been replaced at some point. I believe all Coulds (other than a handful of standard shift cars) were furnish will RRMC built versions of the GM Hydro-Matic.

A stunning car. Thank you for sharing this with us. Correct me if I am wrong, I am not sure that the Marchal parking lights would normally be wired to be used as indicators. Car indicator lights (including side repeaters) in the UK are supposed to have orange lenses, not red.

It is become obvious that Rolls-Royce will never top the silver cloud for a combination of elegance and simplicity. Sadly, the only real drawback in the part of the world where I live is the lack of complete climate control. Air conditioning became available in 1957 on the series one, but even then it was Not fully integrated and certainly not automatic temperature controlled; that came on Cadillac first in 1964 but what a beautiful, beautiful car!

Get it right. You have the same GM 4 speed Hydro in the Cloud 3 as the earlier S series had. They never used a Borg Warner. The US spec Shadow(SY) used the GM turbo 400. They continued with the T400 until they upgraded to the GM 4L80E on 1994. The non US SY cars used a modified hydro we call the Side Pan until 1971. Don't even presume to argue the point. I've rebuilt over 1000 of these over the years. In fact, I have a Cloud 3 trans on my bench right now!
