This was very informative. Glad I watched this video as I am about to purchase my first rotary cutter.

Two bits of advice: 1) Fiskars will replace any broken scissors, rotary cutters, etc. I has a two year old rotary cutter that would not stay open. I found their warranty info online, filled out a form and they sent me a new rotary cutter for free! 2) The titanium rotary cutter blades are awesome. They are a bit more expensive (use a 50% or 60% coupon at Joann's) but well worth it. They last at least twice as long as the regular blades from any company.

You are a very good teacher. After watching a few of your videos me and my new Singer are doing a good job on our projects. Good explanation of the steps involved as the project progresses. Enjoyed the rotary cutter review and notice you do not have a pinking rotary blade. I have a 45mm Fiskars pinking blade but cannot find any info on which handle it will fit. Perhaps your knowledge of this field can help me. Thank you and continue the great videos, stay safe. Kerry

I have the second one you shown and if you click the lock button after you pop the blade out it stays out so you don't need to hold it down the whole time you're cutting :)

haha, yeah that's why I added that little annotation. I was fiddling with it last night (after I uploaded) and figured that out lol. So there's a little note on the screen that explains that lol!!

I know this video was made a long time ago but I’m commenting anyways 😆.... There is no blade difference between the Friskars 45mm Fabric Rotary & the Friskars 45mm Paper Rotary. The same 45mm blade used for the fabric is the same for the “paper” which makes no sense since they are essentially the same thing (slight design differences in the “models”) but the price difference. The one the sell as a Paper Rotary is normally $9.99 at Joann’s & on sale for $5.99 while the “fabric” one is $19.99 & can usually be on sale for around $15. The styles are super similar.... I know all this bc I just bought the paper one & have like 3 of the “fabric” ones. When i got it, I honestly thought they sent the wrong one until I looked at the packaging (the style they show online has changed from what the actual Rotary looks like).

I got the Frisk and threw it in the trash. It would not cut and, because I had to apply A LOT of strength for the thing to cut through even the lightest fabric, I was scared of cutting my fingers off! I actually sliced a little tip of my finger off with this thing. Hated it with a passion, lol. Back to the old scissors.

I seem to reach for the little 28mm cutter more often than the bigger ones. Thanks for the amazon tip, as those blades are indeed pricey after a while. Your shirt is adorable. Where did you find it?

I liked your video, but I'm trying to find out which rotary you should use to cut what fabric or what amount of fabric. I'm new to sewing, made two small quilts, went through 3 45mm blades at 5 bucks a piece, no beuno

New to sewing, just discovered your channel tonight. Great high quality. Yes I'm learning blades can be expensive. Have you tried the rotary blade sharpener from joann's? They are around $20 & I'm wondering if they are a good value in your opinion. Also are the fiskars & olfa blades interchangeable our brand specific? Thank you for sharing.
@MelanieHam
@MelanieHam 10 жыл бұрын
Hi there! yes, I have seen those sharpeners but I have a hard time believing they work that well so I have never bought one and to be honest of all my sewing friends no one have one and I haven't heard reviews really one way or the other. I just tried and the Olfa blade won't fit on the fiskars cutter, but the fiskars blade will fit on the olfa... at least the ones that I have. I just tried to see if it fits, not that it works on a long term basis, so I'm not sure how that would work long term!

iheartstitching Thanks for answering so quickly. I'm getting ready to place an amazon order. If you have an affliate link for the pinking blade as well please post it and I will make sure to use that. Thanks for all your help.

I can't seem to work a rotary blade. It may cut once and that's it. What's the trick! I'm totally frustrated. I'm on my third rotary cutter. the last one is a Fiskars. just won't cut! Yes, I've changed the blade 4 times

Hello. So my mother in law has just started seeing and quilting. She has a Fiskars rotary blade she is finding that it dulled pretty quickly. She only use it to make one quilt (60"x98") with one blade. Do you find that you have to replace them frequently? Are there different quality blades? Any advice would help. Thank you!
@MelanieHam
@MelanieHam 8 жыл бұрын
+Jay Leigh yes, unfortunately you do have to replace them fairly often for it to cut easily

Hi Melanie! Hope you're still responding to questions - if I'm just using the rotary to cut an old T-shirt DIY style, is a 28mm enough or should I go with the 45? (I'll be cutting off sleeves, and around collars, etc.)
