This is probably the most unique photography video on KZbin right now. No other photographer that I know of has dared to do what you have done here. It takes a lot of confidence and humility to expose yourself like this. Truly outstanding.

You. Are. The. Best. Not to be over the top or anything, but what you bring to your fellow photographers is extraordinary in the literal sense of the word. I appreciate your work so much and particularly the impact you have on my journey. This video just confirms it. You are just like the rest of us, we witnessed it, and instead of bringing you down in our eyes, it lifted us up. Thanks for that. Peace from France ❤️

In all honesty, those hesitations that I also make is what bugs me the most. I’m looking at something interesting and I keep saying to myself “should I?” When all the while, somewhere inside me is yelling ”TAKE THE SHOT!!” Then I end up missing the opportunity and I’m kicking myself as a result. Sigh…. 😔

It becomes even harder for me to 'TAKE THE SHOT!!' when someone walks by. Maybe it's my lack of photography experience after one year, but I often hesistate when people are around that could (and surely WON'T) judge me.

This video is SO important. It gave me a sense of great comfort that my frustration with not getting the images I want and a ton of trial and error are shared among the best of us. Thank you thank you thank you for bringing this community to an emotionally higher level, and honestly, you ARE my favourite photographer and teacher of photography. Not to mention how extremely educational this video is. It's like having a masterclass with you by being with your eyes, which is such an invaluable experience. Have a great day!

This video is so relatable on so many levels. Between Oct '22 to Jan this year, I spent five weeks in Italy trying to get the best out of myself in architectural and street photography. However, after a point, everything I clicked felt "rubbish" and I constantly felt I'm not framing, composing, clicking anything that I haven't before. There were days I liked quite a few of my shots. Then there were days where I felt very unfulfilled. However, there was nobody to tell me that's just how it is, and that that's ok. Up till now, in this video. So, thank you, Roman. :)

Thank you for being vulnerable with us, Roman. Showing that you go through the same struggles as we do and that even though you have created some absolutely stunning images that you can also create some very average photos. This is not something most photographers would ever do, but it means so much to those of us who seem like we just can't capture many good images. I often struggle with self-doubt, but this video makes me feel so much more confident in my work and to push myself to worry less about the end result and have more fun and enjoy myself.

A few more thoughts on the video and one more comment to support your work. 1. The ambulance boat story was insane. Hope the lady and the old guy are fine. 2. I don't know if it helps, but lots of fun hustle sometimes can be going in Venice at night... not to mention the city at night looks stunning. 3. I love the overall feeling of complete absence of inspiration you experienced that day. All your comments like "oh I took the picture of the same guy and made him feel bad" or "fuck I wish I had a 90 mm with me" or "hesitated again" are exactly what we all feel pretty often when we go out. The fact you didn't rush into some interesting characters or something interesting happening also contributed to that. I appreciate that feeling of no inspiration in this video, because after so many inspiring videos on photography there should be some leave-the-hope ones. Simply because it's a natural part of taking pictures not yet properly represented (until today). 4. If you give another shot to this genre, I think it could be totally fine to utilize the burst mode and just use 1 picture from a burst in the video. If the whole burst sucks, it will still be represented.

Follower for quite a while at this point; rarely comment. I loved the format of this video and the challenge you presented yourself. It is good to see someone as talented as you go through this type of process - start to doubt yourself or second guess yourself and truly become very relatable to schlubs like me trying to step into street photography (which I have been avoiding because I am scared sh*tless to fail!). Thanks for the vulnerability you put out there. I found this video gripping, intriguing and informative. Appreciate what you do on KZbin.

This video shows the actual side of street/travel photography. As you say, fantastic location, top gear, great light, but these do not guarantee that every shot is a banger , even for an incredibly talented and experienced photographer as yourself. Your experience echoes a fairly typical day out for me; hesitation, missed opportunities, boring subjects and the trying not to play safe with cliche shots ( although, I'd be super happy with what you considered boring or cliche 😉 ) Thank you making this video, Roman, and for showing us what you go through when you are out shooting. This make you and what you do so much more relatable. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I appreciate the work that you produce, and I am glad that you were able to share this as to highlight to everyone the process and the progress it takes to producing a good image. That beyond the gear, the perfect location and expenses for the travel; the photographer, the artist cannot get away with the limitations of their capacity and ability of capturing the best images. There will still be the individual's context, no matter how capable the individual is. It takes a lot, and rightfully so. Thank you for this post, and thank you for continually inspiring us to humble ourselves into the process

I've shot 35 and 50mm for street for decades, but last year I embraced 28 and 24mm. Following your footsteps in Venice I saw so many beautiful wide shot opportunities (establishing and closer up) I would hardly have spotted before. Example: the colorfully dressed ladies at 8:20 with the small square and large wall/windows in the background. I so imagined a 'Sir Robin'-close shave with a 24 :)

Love this video because of its subject matter. Being selective about shots is very similar to how a film photographer will behave, and I think that is a good thing, even knowing fully well that shots will be missed. But such missed shots have often resulted in lessons learned that can be relied on in the future.

I've always admired your work as a photographer Roman, even though personally I prefer a different style of shooting. But I have to say that you've outdone yourself as a content creator this time around. The topics you are addressing and your approach to sharing your personal knowledge and opinion is something the modern content creators lack - 99% of the relevant channels are simply hype/trend hunters in disguise. Gawd bless you sir, for doing this. It's something we rarely see in the social media, let a lone youtube. I resently worked a small music event. Small, but the music was awesome. Less than 25% were worth keeping. And I'm guessing that only 10% of them (that 25%) will see the light of day. That's around 90-100 photos in 4200+ for one 6hour event. Also the colour plate in Venice is amazing. 30 - 34 is my kinda style.

And that's fine because it's all about the process and having fun.

I have so much respect for you anyway, and this video only cemented my thoughts further. In the day and age of social media, we forget that there’s more than the stuff we see. Pulling the curtain back like this is cool and helps people like me - a hobbyist at best - remember that it’s okay to take pictures of shit and more specifically that it’s okay to just spam the shutter button. Can’t have a lot of good pics when you don’t take many in the first place

Its rare I pause a Roman video halfway through to comment, you know, I'm usually too engrossed in the quality content, but I had to this time to say that this is such a great idea for a video and also really important information. I'm just an enthusiast photographer and some of my favourite photos I've taken are often nestled in between a bunch of really 'bad' shots. The other day I went out in my local area down the river and took more than a 100 shots, hoping I would get stunning river views and my favourite photo turned out to be a row of red leaves that were literally growing out of a gutter on a boathouse. It was so unexpected as I just thought it was a relatively interesting subject, nothing special, but when I got home and started playing around in lightroom I loved it more than any other shot. Keep up the great work mate.
