I like to do a rotation of ice packs. Since the freezer in my RV performs better, i put two ice packs in the fridge and 2 ice packs in the freezer and I do a daily rotation.

I APPLAUD your polite informative attempt to reach out to anyone in the RV community who is getting familiar w/the basics of fridge use or any of the other myriad number of issues we face in using and maintaining our rigs. My tip to you...I use frozen jugs of water I pull from the home freezer when I begin the cool down process before going out. I pack both (empty) freezer & fridge compartments with as many as I can get in there. When desired temp is reached I pull them & stock the unit with cold & frozen foods. IT SHORTENS THE TIME IMMENSELY! And it's free & reusable.

Good vid. The only things I could add is. You must keep at least 1" between the product's and the fridge inner walls. Air has to flow. And keeping ice in the fridge. Raises the humidity level in the fridge. Ices up the cooling fins. Just trying to respectfully add to good content. I taught a college powersports program. So am not attempting to be an armchair quarterback. Thanks for the vid.

Mine works perfectly fine during colder weather but when it gets hot the Refrigerator cant keep up. I already put stronger fans and added more insulation but Its still goes as high as 52, which is really bad. Any clue what else I could do? Thanks

I have added a computer fan INSIDE my fridge that blows air through the metal fins to help transfer the heat from the food better. Also make sure that your door seals are tight around the edges. I found that the door switch wasnt shutting off my interior light and the fridge was fighting it out with the hot incandesent bulb inside. Once I cleared that up by replacing the bulb with an equivelant LED style bulb and resetting my doors so that the interior light went out, I had much better performance from my refrigerator. @@Debtfreehomesteaders Im obsessed with getting this 5600 garbage refrigerator working properlly. Things ive done. 1. Replaced 4 lil fans with 4 stronger fans and added 2 in the bottom facing up 2. Put heat shield tape on all the metal piping behind the fridge which was getting real hot. 3. Added a REVERSE 8"x 8" fan over the top vent to suck out all the heat(This helped ALOT) 4. Put pink panther insulation on top of the slideout to shield the the slideout (Didnt do anything) 5. Put 2 decent size fans Inside fridge but that didn't help. 6. Vacaville on doors but didn't notice any difference. And Finally I got a residential mini fridge for Daily projects and making ice. I paid 100$ for a new floor model in Lowes and it works 10x better than the Dometic garbage 5600 fridge. Next year ima try pushing cool air with a small ac unit.

I have a 1976 dometic rm66E model RV refrigerator that I want to run off of my RV 12volt house battery. Do you know what power consumption this model uses? Amp hours? How can I figure this out?

Is it the original cooling unit? If so I would not use that refrigerator the ammonia will spew out

@@zayvier69 it's so old I can't believe it even works usually these develop an ammonia leak after about 20 years old

Agreed, I watch parts of the video and would never sub this guy. I have watched alot of useless videos like this one and I am ready to pay someone to fix my Dometic fridge.
