I bought a Savinelli Punto Oro 811KS a couple of years ago when I first started smoking a pipe. I didn't know the difference between Savinelli or Kaywoodie or any other pipe. I realized that the Savinelli was a great smoking pipe. I just bought a Savinelli Roma 673 KS after I discovered Matches860! I bought a tin of Haunted Bookshop to try it out with. I haven't smoked it yet. I'm just waiting for the right time

Great video. I started pipe smoking over the past year and my first pipe, a gift from a friend who has been smoking a pipe for many years, was a Savinelli. What a simply lovely video!!!! I enjoyed it so much its been added to my fav list. I too have a Savinelli second which I bought in the late eighties. The first pipe I bought was a Savinelli Punto Oro with a bamboo shank. That was in 1974 and I'm lighting it now. 7-27-2012 There is something about Savinelli. Just bought a Savinelli poker Capri Root Briar estate pipe and it also smokes very well. Thanks for the video.

Just got a Savinelli Estlla Estate pipe and it's beautiful. It is a natural with a nice deep rustic carving and a silver lucite bit. It came in with my mail order of tobacco, and I lit that baby as fast as I could. I put some HGL in it (which I loved back in the 70's-9-early 2000's) I by the way have a great story of how I fist tried it. Anyway that pipe smokes great and I will keep searching for more it's a great value and smokes like a dream. Thanks for the video, Savinelli's are great!

Matches860 Thanks, One question, whats a mild tobacco you would recommend a newbie to try? I gave Petersons University Flake a try, but it was to strong for me, I over did it. May be to high in nicotine for me.

I'm breaking in a Savinelli 173 right now. It's the one you have almost all the way to the right among your seconds. It's the apple that's just barely bent a little. I really like apples for chunky or broken flake Burleys as they can get a bit hot. The thick walls protect your fingers. it's a cool little shape, the 173, the 270 is nice too

I had 3 in my collection and they were awesome. I smoked the alligator gold the most, followed by the Roma I had with the Lucite stem. The Roma that I had broke at the stem and I never got around to repairing it. I wound up getting asthma, so I had to stop smoking altogether. I hated to give up pipe smoking, because it was one of the most pleasurable experiences I have ever had.
@Matches86010 жыл бұрын
Matt Jones Interesting, I had asthma as well and it finally went away after three years in 2009. In hindsight, I don't think the pneumonia I had had fully cleared up those three years, but the doctor said it was asthma. Anyway, I'm back to full breathing these days.

In the 70's I was working for Tinder Box, being young I was learning from the older guys about pipes and tobacco. This guy came in with over 40 Castello's and some tobacco. It was frowned upon to smoke anything but TB tobacco, I lit up a Castello with some HGL and I saw heaven ..lol I have been hooked ever since.....

A number of online vendors sell them now & then, you sort of have to watch for them. My Roma #673 is the present day replacement for that original #673 second that was lost. There is little difference between the two smoke-wise, but I had a lot of good times with that original.

What does Seconds mean? Are there 1sts and thirds and fourths? Are they grades? I cant seem to find much on the internet about it. They seem to call 'used' pies as 'estates' hence my question.
@Matches8608 жыл бұрын
A "second" is one that the maker has deemed flawed. Normally it's due to pits in the wood, which have no effect on the smoking qualities. If you're looking for beauty, you avoid the seconds. Yes, estates are pipes owned by someone else, so in theory, it's possible to get an estate that's also a makers second.

@Matches8606 жыл бұрын
Wow, there are so many variables to mention, but the differences between Savinellis and others become apparent when you smoke them. I may have to revisit this subject because it does get pretty extensive. The short answer for you is that Savinelli briar seems to breathe and others don't.
