I m originally from Uganda but I was raised up in Botswana for about 14 years before I moved to the US but what I would recommend you is to be very safe when traveling around Africa. Indeed Botswana is one of the most safest countries but doesn’t doesn’t rule out the fact that there would be some rotten apples who would be disrespectful esp a woman traveling by yourself, you should really consider traveling with a male partner or/ friend to be safe because this could happen anywhere not only Botswana. I haven’t been back to Botswana in about 11 years but i plan on flying back there with my wife in a year or two from now. I just stumbled upon your page and will keep watching your videos!!

My dear this is not about Botswana ...everywhere you go you will run into these types of problematic people .always travel after being well researched...ranging from your transport especially after arrival cos that’s when things get tricky..you can converse with strangers but to me you gave too much details for predators to lend an ear and worse off you should have be very strict about leaving him at the reception because you do not know him letting him through gives the people at the desk you are together ! Conversation you had was too long , learn to be direct in future if you want to travel anywhere as a solo and Goodluck .

This is an unfortunate incident indeed. Now... Before you talk yourself out of it. Reclaim your strength by reporting it to the authorities. Makes sure your report is as detailed as possible. This will help them for other cases in the area of harassment/sequestration cases, disappearances etc... Your confidence will be restored by acknowledging the gravity of what you just survived. Talking it down is pushing it down. It will resurface in harmful ways in your life. So deal with it facing it. Report it. Also trauma hotlines are available online. Reach out to specialists that deal with this. You did very well by telling the world about it. Courage and keep exploring safely.

My goodness! I am so sorry to hear. Stay safe please! Try to book your accommodation well in advance and trust your instincts right away. So sorry to hear. I have been a lone traveler before but I have always tried to make contacts from my networks in the countries I travelled to before I arrive. Except for being dupped of my money once in a while, being overcharged etc, I wouldn't really say there was a time I felt unsafe. Except the driving late sometimes in some countries left me scared of my life and this one time having a traumatising experience of a cab I was travelling in Elmina Ghana hit a person . Stay safe please sis.

Well my sister, being a traveler caution should always be your first priority and it really wasn't your fault it really was the driver's fault! But then again always make sure that you paid for your room at the reception and collect the keys, let this be a lesson well learnt and don't worry God takes good care of his children! One Love ♥️ and God bless 🙏 you baby girl 💯💪🏽😇👑

This is a month old, already, but I hope you realized how blessed you were at that moment. This could have rapidly escalated and you could have been hurt, drugged and trafficked. Don't trust strangers, especially when they are in your space, don't respect your bounderies, and try to establish (or force) rapport way to soon! Safety first and always! A nice guy would understand your apprehension. Your gut was giving you signs the whole time. I'm a mother and grandmother, and this hurts my heart to know such a lovely young lady could have ended up in a very dangerous or deadly situation. Take care! There's only one you. God Bless.

When people see videos of solo travelers, they think its a walk in the park. However the truth is it so scary coz someone can easily take advantage of you. It not only happens to females but also males. People are always looking for opportunities to rip travelers off. Be very careful who you interact with. Otherwise glad you are safe!

I'd suggest you make security arrangements as you travel - this time, the Lord delivered you. I would make it a point to always land at a police station to introduce yourself and to make sure you can call them for help if you ever need it. Sounds like a pretty scary situation. May the Lord continue to protect you on your travels. God bless.

Please Damaris, report the bus driver and it will help the police track the man. Please do something, reporting it on KZbin is important but taking a legal action is part of solving the solution. I am sure going to the police well help calling the driver out, calling the man out, you can also obtain his Identity from the payment he made to that brothel.

Beautiful Damaris!!! I pray God to continue protecting you! as you continue your solo travel adventures in Africa. You're truly a confident, strong, and brave young lady - clearly a bright star shining d African story to world. Keep up d good work you're doing, n never let ur guards down from potential predators who would prey on seemingly vulnerable young girls like you. Maybe you need a boyfriend with shared interest, to travel with you - just like Wode Maya n Miss Trudy! You deserve better dan d risky welcome treatment you got in Botswana. By d way, I watch n follow you from here in Ottawa, Canada. Stay safe, healthy, n happy!!!

pole sana. i have been in Botswana for now over 18 years. i would say its relatively safe compared to most countries in africa. If you need some one to guide you to some few places in Gaborone where am based feel free to contact me. let me also assure you that botswana police are very swift when called upon so any time you visit dont fear to talk to cops. they will always be on your side. Otherwise enjoy your stay in Gaborone. Tosh

Botswana is generally safe , but there are bad people ! you can’t ever trust a random bus driver especially as a visitor and even worse, as a female. I’m so sorry you went through that. Love and light to you !🤍
