This is my go to channel for learning about cast iron but there's one thing I do differently. If you'll use your wife's toothbrush to get into those hard to reach areas it'll work very well. For those unmarried folks a paint brush will do also. It helps spread the oil making sure everything is coated before you wipe it off. Corn stick and muffin pans can be real butts sometimes.

Corn stick pans are bad but those turkshead pans are evil. Lol.

You can always use the rag you intend to discard, to make char cloth for fire starting. You would take it and cut it into small pieces. Then in a small tin, (I use an old mint tin I've had for years) that has a few small holes, that will be covered once you put the lid on fully. This will cut off the air, to prevent combustion. You will place it over a flame. I use a small bbq unit, or do it over hot coals when I bbq. Once you see a fair amount of smoke you will use mitts or gloves to place push the lid fully on. I don't know how often you camp, or if you have a wood stove or fireplace, but I find chard cloth comes in handy, and if you intend to cook over the fire, I like this method over using the cloth bit dipped in the melted wax scraps bits of old candles. Hope someone finds this helpful.

Thanks for showing the Aunt Pittypat's skillet. I have one that I found years ago at a thrift store. It reminds me of eating there 40+ years ago in Atlanta. It's great for a small cake of cornbread. I think Cowboy Kent said he hand washes his cleaning cloths with Simple Green to get the grease out, then launders them.

Thanks for this video, I’ve been trying to figure out how to set up a routine and storage option, so others (hubby and our adult kids) can easily do maintenance seasoning. Since these seasoning rags are cotton, could we cut into strips and use as fire starters? We live rural and have both fire pit and wood burning furnace.

Yes, they do double as great fire starters.

Can I use these same techniques for a cast iron iron (for ironing clothes). It was my grandmother's and will be decorative only but it needs to be cleaned up.

I had a little bit of an issue with my payment aggregator. Apparently I needed to update a form and did not know it. It has all been corrected now. I'm sorry that you had trouble with it. Thankfully I got a message from another customer and and I was able to get it taken care of.

You can always add seasoning to a preseasoned pan. Usually the initial preseason is just to get you started.

Why make it so complicate? Use a small amount of seasoning, wide it well with a rag, turn rag for a dryer area and when rag is to saturated throw it in the trash. One rag deal. I don't have the same rag for more then a couple weeks at most. If I happen to get a little crazy with the seasoning I'll grab a paper towel and do a light wipe to pick up some excess oil then move to my rag. After cleaning up a piece I use my current rag for its first seasoning and then throw the nasty thing away, no way I want to keep spreading the nasty stuff around. If the second seasoning leaves crud on my rag I'll pitch it as well. We wonder why people don't cook in cast iron? Well if I had to have a cleaning kit and bake my pans in the oven after each use I wouldn't use cast iron.
