In my last video, I showed you the beautiful tourist center of Athens, Greece, but today, I'll take you to the city center where locals actually eat, live, work, and protest. You'll see both sides of the city and culture.

The Middle East issue I agree totally with you. It’s interesting though I can’t recall so many protests in western countries in the past. Maybe its social media making it is more easier to have like minded people coming together? Normally the protests were on domestic issues which still happen today. Exceptions were maybe outside embassies in years gone by. In the early 00s there Falungong people protesting outside the Chinese embassy was a common occurrence . You were part of some in front of the Russian embassy. Anyway maybe its me getting older but I can feel some difference (maybe it’s Australia getting even more multicultural).

Johnny a few notes for you to think.... Global economic crisis started from US.... The Greek statistics was dictated by American banks... Greek Politicians are educated to American universities & they were overleveraging debt like all the Americans doing. Debt of Greece was 120% of GDP & it is a debatable metric from economists. The only thing that all economist agree is that economy is psychology... So when the American bubble erupted Greece was more exposed... more conventional Europeans got crazy.. We reminded the world that we invented Drama & Tragedy & the party started 🤣 Lessons learned from all sides & Economist are updating their theories... Economics as a science is a work in progress always.... Current economic status of Greece is improving fast & it seems that this will be the case for the following years... Enjoy your stay & always have in mind that Athens is more or less a normal city... with the touristy areas... with low normal & high end areas... So choose & explore :)

I know this may sound weird..but I view locals smoking as part of the ambience in a location. I enjoy seeing people chill with a coffee and cig. I don't smoke but it doesn't bother me that much as long as i'm not in an enclosed hotbox type situation with a bunch of smokers. Also, my man you really need to lose a bit of weight or do some serious cardio. You are huffing and puffing from just normal walking and that's not a good sign. I would say in your situation that just everyday walking is not enough cardio. You need to hit the gym. I say that with all respect. @@JohnnyFD Umm... I'm a native resident of Athens. I know exactly what I'm talking about. Parks, shopping streets, public theaters, cafés, restaurants where ALL NATIVE citizens go are places of retirement? Plus: of the 5+ million people in the metropolis, 4.5 million live in the suburbs. Are all of these pensioners? Families also live there, but they go into the suburbs they live in as well. Athenian suburbs ARE NOT American suburbia.
@JohnnyFD
@JohnnyFD 11 күн бұрын
Look, i'm sure they are very nice places to live long term, especially if you own a car there. But as a tourist, it's a pain to get there and get around once you're there. In the city center, you can walk or metro everywhere quickly and easily. I've been to Glyfada and Marousi, both are impossible to walk around in without a car.
@Pan472
@Pan472 11 күн бұрын
@@JohnnyFD Glyfada and Marousi? Unwalkable? Uh... That's how you easily distinguish a European from an American. Because any European tourists that have been in the suburbs, they're easily walkable. Plus: there's something called public transport. Glyfada is served by the tram. Marousi by line 1 in 3 different stations AND the suburban rail. With a line connecting you to the Airport directly. How is that impossible to move around without a car?

In what workld is Glyfada unwalkable? lol ... There are plenty suburbs to go to like Kifisia, Alimos, etc. This guy stays in the center and thinks it is the "real Athens", where no Athenian even lives anymore. Actually Turkey got a large piece of Greece at the end of WWII until then it was Greek.It has the best Greek ruins untarnished. It was done to realign boarders using the Mediterranean as a country boundary. It has nothing to do with past empires. It was just ending an long argument over Cypress between Turkey and Greece. Greece is a fallen economic country largely mismanaged by their politicians. Especially poorly managed with regard to tax collections riff with corruption. So the Greek economy became insolvent and bankrupt. The people themselves are friendly and easy going. No comment on the rest. I predict you will move on to another country. Have you been to Turkey yet or recently? If not go to area along the med you will find the best Greek ruins in super shape at least they were in the mid 80s.

Johnny, ask your mom, but maybe when you were a baby, stores were also closed in the USA on Sundays. The reason why the bakhala was open on Sunday was the fact that the shop owner was a Muslim from India. One of the greatest achievements in American manufacturing, and there are many, were washing machines and dryers. 😅 Of course, part of Biden's determination to destroy America is to ban these washing machines.😅 Do you clean the condenser? Huge hassle. I read a comment the other day that some Ukrainians living in the US were so impressed by the US washer/dryer that they wanted to bring one there after the war when they returned.🤣 That was a small demonstration. Most are huge in a quest to bring a cease-fire and end the genocide. When you walked in the market, you heard the Muslim prayer call. I recall when Greece was a very nice country. It was before they joined the EU, but the world is shifting so they can decide which way they want to go.

Why do they harp on about Macedonia? Why can't they just let Macedonians have their place? I'm not familiar with why Greeks have a problem with it.

We do already that 😁 Greek Shipping is thriving we are the leaders in that sector with 20% of the global fleet... Our tourism is thriving with 3 time more tourists arriving than our population... We are leading the energy transition and many more.... Thanks GOD that we are obsessed!!!!! because most of the modern scientific advancements came from scientist that they were reading our history & philosophy & started researching things!!!! Such as the molecules & the atoms, the solar system & so on!!!!! So make me a favor & read a little bit of Greek history you may invent something😅. Like the British the industrial revolution from the Heron's engine. As for Macedonia we don t like lies & stealing it is not obsession it is ethics a Greek world by the way we invented even that!🤣 So if you dont like to get robbed you can understand us 😉

@@curiousnomadic Real Macedonians the Greek one they are having their place in northern Greece & they living a fine life with their top gastronomy. The imposters🤣 that you are referring they are 1/3 Albanians, 1/3 Bulgarians, 1/3 Slavs. They always they had their country & we were had an argument about the name.... Because Macedonias are of Greek ethnicity like Spartans... They are Greeks from Sparti. Same think from Macedonians they were & are Greeks from Macedonia... So the imposters wanted to be Macedonians in order to make money from tourism... & we forced them to name themselves Nothern Macedonias (only as a geographical term & not by ethnicity because they are not Greeks) so matter now is settled they joined NATO, we helping them to join EU, they are coming in real Macedonia for vacations, we have our factories there & we even protect their airspace with our air force 🙂 But if they start again to try to steal history & identity.... the air force that protects them they will send presents 🙂 Not bugatsas 🤣

Sorry Johnny, you lost me with all the Hamas propaganda! Meanwhile, Israel is a democracy and Netanyahu is an "elected" official!

Netanyahu has been in power for over 16 years, he’s an autocrat. The Hamas are terrorists. Both shouldn’t be in power.

@@JohnnyFD , actually you are incorrect. Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East and Netanyahu is an elected official who "holds office" not power. You may not like Netanyahu, but he has been elected by Israeli citizens which includes 1.2 million Israeli Arab citizens. Do you know the names of the remaining American hostages being held by Hamas? Have you condemned the atrocities of October 7th? While I appreciate your Ukraine coverage from someone inside Ukraine, your knowledge of the Middle East conflict is definitely not worthy!

@@JohnnyFD , so it is clear you don't know what the term autocrat actually means! Israel is a liberal democracy and Netanyahu has been voted into office by citizens of Israel on and off for the last 16 years. Netanyahu "holds office", not power. As I mentioned, garbage propaganda doesn't do it for me!

@@JohnnyFD , so for the third time...please learn the correct meaning of the word/term autocrat! Meanwhile, Netanyahu holds office, he doesn't hold power and he hasn't been in office for 16 consecutive years. He did lose an election! But seriously, Israel is a "liberal" democracy that holds elections with a liberal judiciary system. Your ability to ignore my comments by simply deleting them is disappointing! Peace out...I'll get my Ukraine coverage from more informed sources!!
