MY SECOND YEAR AS A STUDENT MIDWIFE - *Part 1*

In part 1 I give an introduction to how my 2nd year of being a student midwife has gone! I explain the number of hours I have completed in placement, the areas of maternity I have been in, the skills I have performed, some examples of clinical situations such as a birth I facilitated, the amount of babies I have helped bring into the world, and a discussion around postnatal and labour areas.
Stay tuned for part 2 and 3 which will come very soon! I go into more detail about the high dependency unit, antenatal ward and clinic and triage. I then discuss theory weeks and what we have been learning/skills we have been performing, and then finally the assessments we have done this year.

Hi Ellie - I wanted to ask do kingston midwifery department count breaks as part of your hours? I'm doing nursing at Kingston and we don't get breaks included, however i spoke to one of the Midwifery students on campus and she said midwifery have break hours counted! Nice to hear of your second year experience...I've also had so many times during second year of wanting to quit 😛 All the best for 3rd year!

I’m sure you’ll be fine! Talk to your friends, family and peers if you are struggling, do things you enjoy alongside, make memories on holidays and remember your passion and your “why” to go into midwifery❤️
