Love this 😍 I’ve got my first interview in 2 days time and I’m sooo nervous - I also have to do it online via teams and I believe they also use the MMI technique too :) x I’m struggling to get the info from nursing and Midwifery Council/Royal College of midwives/MBRRACE/NICE to sink in x Also keep forgetting the 6Cs too same as you did I remember a couple and then my mind goes blank 🙈

Wow the first question was exactly what I wanted to ask you. I'm 34 years old , I have 4 kids and I always wanted to be a midwife since I was a little girl. But because I'm a mum of 4 I've been very busy and that dream stand behind. Now that they are bigger I'm thinking to give it a try . I know that it won't be easy but I have to try. But I was afraid about my age ...I thought that maybe it would be ridiculous to be the oldest student. Your answer just made me happy 😊

I start my midwifery degree in January and I’m am so nervous, but your videos are making me feel more prepared for what I am getting myself into. You also remind me of me 😂. Especially in terms of revising and keeping up to date on work. I have always been a very up-to-date student and finished my college degree in May, and officially left in July. I will say I’m very nervous about one specific part of going into placement, and that is dealing with the bereavement side of midwifery. I recently had a loss of my own on the 30th July, and it was really hard to deal with because at the time of my miscarriage I didn’t know I was pregnant, but going into A&E miscarrying and being told I’m pregnant, left me not only grieving the loss of my baby, but also that time of happiness and joy I could have endured if I knew I was pregnant. I would have seen my baby in scans if I knew, but because I didn’t, I wasn’t able to experience that. I guess I’m just nervous that going onto the early pregnancy ward, potentially at the trust I went to at the time, will bring up the memories from that day. However, I do feel like my experience may allow me to feel more empathetic with women in that situation because I know exactly how it feels to be in that position. Your videos have helped me a lot, thankyou so much 😊

Hi Shardai! I'm glad you are finding the videos useful and is making you feel more prepared - that's exactly the reason why I love doing them :) I am so sorry to hear about your loss in July, and you are such an amazing and brave person to be able to talk about it here and how it made you feel. It is awful that you didn't get to experience those early pregnancy moments such as scans, excitement etc like many others do. I would think that being in those environments may be difficult initially, and that is absolutely normal and okay. It might be a good idea (if you feel as though you are able to) talk to your CPF's about it and they might be able to give you further support, and will understand if you are struggling (they are the people who support you in placement, do your rotas etc). You could even speak to the midwife you are working with on early pregnancy unit, or antenatal clinic in scans or labour ward etc if you feel like it might trigger you, to just give them a little heads up and that you may need to leave the room. Of course though, there would be no expectation for you to have to tell the midwife or anyone you are working with just so they can understand. You do whatever feels right. Although you might find that in these situations, you can tell women and their partners advice that you wished you heard, or be the person that will just listen to them in their time of need. You might even become more passionate about it and go into bereavement once you have qualified. It is so difficult to predict how you might react, especially if it is a very similar loss to the one you experienced. However, just have an open mind that it might be easier than you expected, or could be more difficult in other ways. Have those you love and can offer support around you. I am sure you will be an excellent Midwife. My inbox is always open on my instagram account 'elles_journey_to_midwifery' if you need to chat or if things get hard :)

@@elliesjourneytomidwifery6142 thankyou so much for your kind words ❤️. I am quite a strong minded person and of course I have days where I feel quite down about the situation, but I think that this later start to the course, as the usual start for most universities is in September, will help me as I have had that time to reflect on the situation and heal as well as support my partner through the loss too. That is a great idea, as maybe just letting someone such as the midwife know about my situation may better help them support me through my learning on the placement in that specific environment. Thankyou so much 😊

Hiya! Well I went into labour ward and I was just so unsure of the process of birth with physiology, what to do once the baby is out (as silly as that sounds!) in terms of preparing syntometrine, baby checks etc. A lot of other things like recording partograms etc but you really do learn everything you need to know while you’re there, but I think I wish I magically knew everything before I started there😂enjoy your labour ward placement!

What happens if you where to accidentally pull the cord to hard and it comes away from the placenta??
@elliesjourneytomidwifery6142
@elliesjourneytomidwifery6142 Жыл бұрын
So I’ve heard of this happening quite a lot! I guess it would depend on if there’s no chance of being able to pull anymore, the risks of the woman bleeding etc. I would assume that it might at times be possible to have a physiological delivery of the placenta after that point (where the woman would push it out herself) but if there’s a high risk of her bleeding or other implications involved, she may have to go to theatre for a manual removal of the placenta. Good question though! Sorry I’m not 100% sure on the answer but I guess it would be decided on a case by case basis

How is the theory in university? I’m awful with theory and I’m worried about when I get into it… thank you!!
@elliesjourneytomidwifery6142
@elliesjourneytomidwifery6142 Жыл бұрын
It does get a bit overwhelming at times, I won’t lie. It’s a 5 day per week course for a reason! But there’s lots of academic support at unis and you can go to the lecturers if you need some help understanding. I think the worst bit is not knowing what to expect, but once you’re there I’m sure you’ll find your way of taking notes etc and managing the workload. You usually have 4 modules, and some unis do 1 module at a time and some do them combined throughout the week, so it’s hard to say how the theory will be. In 1st year you’ll learn about anatomy and physiology, public health, midwifery policies/laws/medicine management and skills. Hope this helps!

That would definitely be one each! (Although a lot of women with twins do opt for an elective c-section, which obviously then wouldn’t count), but I would probably do them in a purple colour so they stand out! :)
