I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Matt, if you want to reduce your hardware on this rig, look up the dropper loop knot. It’s something I learned from saltwater bait fishing with multiple hooks. Tie the dropper loop, cut one end of the loop close to the knot and bang, you’ve got a swivel-less T rig drop shot. I use it for casting and drop swimming small swimbaits and it prevents spooking smallmouth with the swivel while sight fishing. I don’t find twist to be an issue personally

Love the idea. It's similar to the Japanese style tracer rigs, but with significantly less line twist. I like the idea of using it in current or like a modified c-rig. Another great idea and solid video. Thanks Matt and keep sticking them in the tournament, you got this one!

I tried this a few years ago because it was a weird bite one day. I got the idea from how we rig our catfishing rods. I’m really glad to see you’ve had the same idea and had success with it. I caught a couple fish on it one day but wasn’t consistent so I chalked it up as a one off but I’ll have to try it again. Thanks for these videos.

Feedback: a while back you did a 3 most underrated lakes video, Lanier was one of em. I was just starting to get serious about trying to be on the water at least twice a week back then but wasn’t sure where to focus. Your video convinced me to focus on Lanier I have had the time of my life learning that lake ever since. Those spots want to take your rod from you, like for real! The fight the put up is so fun. I now know the southern 2/3rds of Lanier like the back of my hand and looking forward to learning where the next season will push the fish to. Thanks so much Matt!!!

Have been looking for a better drop shot rigging when casting from shore. This reminds me of when I was a tad and fishing with pap and we used a similar rig in the river. Of course no plastics or "T" swivels. We would use bait, cast out in current areas and slo roll the with the old Zebco's back to the bank. We caught a lot of fish. Since I mostly bank fish and this is a new twist on bank fishing. Thanks for sharing.

It's just a three way rig, not a drop shot but very similar. It's common for trolling or bank fishing for walleyes and stripped bass in fast moving water. It's very common in saltwater techniques but they tie it without swivels. I've been using it for ages, very common in the Midwest and fast moving water other places.

The other nice thing about this technique is you can pre-rig it and leave it in your tackle box. For those of us that are still dirty clip users and not tying each bait on, this would allow you to easily clip on an entire dropshot rig.

@@MattStefanFishing Yes, it's a rig/technique used in West Michigan when the Salmon and Trout come into rivers and tributaries. Uses 2 swivels, one that's free moving with a weight to graze the bottom with a fly or bait in tow. The anglers use long flyrods with spinning or fly reels. Being a fly guy from Colorado I was kinda shocked but it works!

Lmao... that's my catfish rig I use for fishing bass on anything especially current. I was telling my buddy we are here fishing the Potomac and I have never been here before caught 5 for 9lbs 5 oz but did more looking then fishing. Anyways I was telling him about your cool slider hook drop shot rig setup and he is anxious or we both are to try it out tomorrow. I caught all my bass on one bait today and tried everything and it was a Koppers live target spinner. I bought this bait on a whim fished 3 lakes never caught anything and today 5, goes to show you got to experiment and time on the water. You have a great channel, love it. Would love to fish with you someday or talk shop.

I like this. I rarely use a dropshot because I bank fish, but I gave this a try tonight. I didn't have a fancy swivel though, so I just tied a leader to my leader with a double uni and didn't trim off my tag end and put a drop shot weight on it, then tied a hook to my mainline. I lost the swivel action, but I did hook up and surprisingly didn't break off. Although I can see that a t-swivel is ideal for this rig, as I know the double uni weakened my line.

@@MattStefanFishing ordered some t-swivels, but in the meantime I had two regular bearing swivels, so I rigged up a double fluke rig, and tied my sinker to the main line. Going to try that out tomorrow. Hoping that it kind of acts like a mixture of a free-rig and dropshot. With the bait able to spin around and move up and down the main line, with the main line acting as my anchor. Thanks again for the tip!

Great idea! If I'm not mistaken, the 3-way swivel was something we used for a certain Walleye rig when I was young in Minnesota. I don't recall if it had a name or how exactly it was rigged, but I'm sure it was used with live bait.

Would be cool with live bait. They have some freedom before they become lifeless and with this rig it gives it some action even if not alive. Thanks for the ideas guys.

Hey, hey- I've got some of those swivels already- use them for live bait presentations when catfishing. You have your main line then one drop gets a weight, generally a really heavy one cause this is a current rig- and the other gets the hook and bait. It allows your bait to swim about freely without feeling the weight of your sinker. When you're using 2 ounce and heavier sinkers you don't want your little minnow to have to lug that around- plus you can use a lighter pound test for the weight drop so if it gets snagged it breaks off easily and you don't lose the rest of your rig. Anyway- now I know something else I can do with them- thanks.
