Norwegian knit and purl, except you're holding the left forefinger up, as opposed to down the Norwegian way; such a nice result when doing Norwegian knit and purl. I've learnt it on Arne & Carlos's channel. Really fun way to do the stitches❤. Thank you, the tension of your stitches look very uniform and beautiful, and I love the yarn you've used for the demonstration🙂

Amazing. Can you explain how you set it up to get the stitch mounts alternating then how you switch back to have them all the same for stockinette stitch
@iuliiacraft
@iuliiacraft 10 ай бұрын
Thank you ☺️ Sure) I used stretchy cast on and all loops are positioned (mounted) on the needles in the same way at the beginning. This is the knitting in rounds on circular needles and starting from the second round, knits and purls loops are mounted in the same way throughout the Rib stitch pattern. In the first set up row I knitted knits by the front leg and purls by the front leg as well. In the second round, position of the purl and knit loops looked different. While I continued to knit by the front leg all knits, I continued to purl all purls by the back leg. The same way of knitting continues till the end of the Rib stitch pattern. If I were to switch to the stockinette pattern, I would knit knits by the front leg and purls by the back. In the next round all loops will be mounted in the same way. In the way of knitting and purling all loops (knits and purls) after the Rib stitch by the front leg, every second loop will be twisted. Hopefully, it was helpful!

It's similar to a twisted purl stitch. Hard for me to follow because I don't knit continental. I'll stick to knitting in the back of the knit stitch.
@iuliiacraft
@iuliiacraft 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I use continental method. You’re right, it is similar to a twisted purl. Sometimes it’s better to stick to the method you get used to 😉 that works too

This reminds me of a Norwegian purl, are you familiar with Norwegian purl and do you think this purl technique resembles it? Do you knit Eastern or Combination? it looks to me like the leading leg of your purl stitch is in the back (and I think in Western, it is in the front). I am trying to analyze what you are doing because this is the nicest 1x1 ribbing I have ever seen! Are you holding your yarn double?
@iuliiacraft
@iuliiacraft Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 Thanks 😊 I don’t think that the method I use can be called Norwegian purl (just watched a few videos about that technique). In my video I knit in rounds and it’s a bit different than how my knitting looks when I knit back and forth. Although, I think that Norwegian purple would work great as it doesn’t creat extra space between the purl and knit loops. I use Continental (Eastern) style of knitting and the leading leg of purls are in the back. For the hat I’m knitting in the video I took two strands of the same yarn to make the hat thicker and warmer but I treat the strings together as one string of yarn. I don’t hold it doubled and correct the tension holding the yarn with three fingers of my left hand. Hopefully, I answered your questions ☺️ Feel free to contact me if you’d have more questions. I’ll be happy to answer them ❤️

So basically it's just tighter purls..?
@iuliiacraft
@iuliiacraft 8 ай бұрын
It’s not exactly tighter purls but rather shorter yarn between knit and purl loops. If you’ll just make tighter purls as usual you might not see the same results as I showed on the video.

Thank you so very much for sharing this technique!!! I have not seen the combination method where you knit regular knits in front leading leg and purl through the back leading leg. Your way of decrasing the gap/yarn on 1x1 ribbing is very easy and fast for me since I knit continental Norwegian style like you do for your knits but I struggle with finding a good way to purl. I can do the Norwegian style purling but it takes longer and can be very tiring on my hands. Does this type of knit/purl have a name?
@MDAORuble
@MDAORuble Жыл бұрын
I think I found the answer to my question. It looks like you purl in the eastern/Russion method by puling into the back leading leg and bringing the yarn around clockwise and knit in the western style into the front leading leg bringing the yarn around counterclockwise. I am from the USA and have never come across this. I have been practicing this medthod and love it! Thank you

Hi! Unfortunately, I don't really know the name to this method of knitting. Maybe there is a name to it but I simply do not know it. I knit in continental way. Some time ago I came across the knitted hat with so neat stitches that I started wondering on how they can be so beautifully made. My stitches did not look like that at that time. Later someone showed me how they knit in rounds a rib stitch and that's how I connected the dots with the method and those neat stitches. I knit in a continental way))))
@iuliiacraft
@iuliiacraft Жыл бұрын
You are right) I hold the needles and knit in a continental way))) This method is more comfortable for me and I think it is fast. I've learned to control the tension by holding the yarn with my left hand and to lead with the right one. Unfortunately, I still do not know the name of the shown in the video method of purling/knitting a rib stitch. However, I'm almost sure that it as a name. I'd appreciate if you share the name of it if you'd happen to come across it. Originally, I'm from Ukraine but since 2016 I live in Canada))))

Your edges are the neatest I have seen so I have adopted your way of knitting and purling! I believe it is called continental combination with western knit and Eastern purl; the rib itself is just called 1x1 ribbing no matter how you knit it. I found this video that I think might help explain it at kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn_cZJipZdZqqaM

Thank you for sharing the name of the pattern. I knit and purl in the same way as shown in the video you shared but obviously it is not a 1x1 rib stitch knitted there. The pattern I showed in my video is a 1x1 rib stitch. Adjusting the purl stitch really makes a difference))) I'm glad it was helpful. Love to share ideas that can be useful))) Best of luck in you future projects!!!

@iuliiacraft
@iuliiacraft 7 ай бұрын
Hi! Unfortunately, I don’t have that video. To be fair, I have to say that my rib stitch on straight needles doesn’t look like the one on the circular needles in rounds. If I need a neat rib stitch knitted back and forth I make twisted knits instead of regular ones. Happy knitting 🧶❤️

I noticed your knitting needles are cube shape. How long have you used these and why do you prefer them to round shape.
@iuliiacraft
@iuliiacraft 7 ай бұрын
These cubics are from Knitters Pride and I have them for about three years. I can’t say that I prefer them over the round ones. In fact, I knit more with the round ones from Addi now. I noticed that my tension is different with the same size of needles in round and cubic. Knitting with cubics looks tighter than with rounds. Maybe, it’s just me ☺️ Here is the link to my review on these needles after using them for three years kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIGVc6xsr6aUo6csi=4dtshesad6iGcOAh
