Hi, I really enjoy your videos. I’m a fairly new knitter and wanted to know why you sometimes knit through the back loop and other times (like when you grabbed those grey threads on the 4th row) you knit in the front of the loop. I knit Continental like you and just want to make sure I’m doing my knits properly when trying this technique. Does it matter which side I knit into and if so does it change the look? When you purl this way (sometimes called russian purl) it is twisting the stitches. So if you knit in the following round your stitches are twisted on the needle so you knit through the back to make a normal untwisted knit stitch.

I’m doing my first sweater as we speaks and soon getting to the bottom . So is there a way I can do this on a top down sweater for the him . The color helps you tell the difference from MC main color, but its about the size of the yarn being thinner that will helps draw in the thicker yarn when you take it out. For a curved stretch. Best guess😊

Hi... Thanks for the tutorial; your knitting is really beautiful. I noticed that you sometimes do the knit stitches from the back loop and other times from the front loop. Is there a reason for that? You knitted the beginning edge rows from the back, then knitted from front loop when picking them up from the scrap yarn. But when you did the ribbing, you knitted from the back loop and purled from the front. I saw in your lopapeysa video you did the sleeve this way - is there a benefit over this way than the regular? Thx

I think it might be more about the way I cast on which makes me feel more comfortable using the back loop in the very beginning. The main point is to avoid twisting stitches there, otherwise the edge won't be the same.

Do you think this will solve the gauge problem I'm having with the hat that I am making? I made a gauge and then I computed a total of 96 stitches but the hat ended up too big/loose. The brim of my hat is a 1x1 rib so I am searching for ways to make the rib tight.

I think first of all you need to do a sample of the yarn to get an idea how many stitches you have in 10cm. Then you take your head measurements and subtract 4cm for better fit. And finally for the rib you have to take 0.5 - 1 size smaller needles, not the same size as for the rest of the hat. 😃 I hope it will be helpful!

Hi Anna! For circular knitting you divide your number of stitches into 2 and cast it on having extra thread. Then 3 rows of purling using your thread and row 4 you do as in the video - lifting loops from the first row :) I hope it helps!
