For record dividers for my own collection, all I did was simply buy some large black Bristol boards or poster boards from Dollarama or other dollar stores (any colour board will do to suit one's tastes) and then I cut up the boards to the size of an LP record, but with a little rectangular label area protruding. Then I hand-printed the genre or artist, etc. onto the label area using a silver ink pen also purchased from Dollarama. It's cheap and effective, but higher quality dividers look awesome too. :)

Great room tour Frank. My collection starts at Queen then goes alphabetically by band. Each artist is organsied like: 1. Studio albums by date originally released 2. Singles by date originally released 3. Live albums by date of the concert not release 4. Compilations by date originally released 5. Other such as newspaper or magazine exclusives, bootlegs etc Solo artists are now seperate to the parent band except Queen where they come after all the Queen stuff above. I have some duplicates, I gave away to a friend most of my CD duplicates except for some i.e. if there were extra tracks etc. Vinyl I've kept most of my duplicates (although I did give away a Queen vinyl to my cousin as it was the 2015 remaster and I got the 2020 release, same recording but I got it for free direct from the publisher)

Thanks for room tour part 2. You have a great music collection and it is so neatly organized. Your Kenwood integrated amp is really nice. I have a Kenwood KA-3500 integrated amp in my secondary system. Depending on my mood and music genre, I sometimes prefer the Kenwood over my newer Marantz PM6004. My record collection is organized by genre and then alphabetically by artist. My CD collection was organized in the same manner, but I ran out of shelf space and the some CD’s are stored in boxes.

One nice "hack" that I've used for those IKEA shelves is to screw a piece of pre-finished MDF 3/8 x 1-1/4 stop moulding to the back surface of each shelf. It keeps the records further forward and not up against the wall behind them. A 7' strip costs less than $5 at Menards so it's about a buck a shelf when you add the MDF screws.
@Channel33RPM
@Channel33RPM 3 жыл бұрын
That is a good tip. I should have mentioned it, but I fastened 1x3s to the back of my IKEA units... then I screwed those into the wall. Those things don't budget at all now.

The 8-track was a funny invention and flawed from the start. I'm 59 and these things were still being made when I was in junior high and high school. I had a few and they never sat properly in the player we had at home(maybe this was the real problem). Can still see the ''program'' listings. There was always a track or two that was concluded on the next ''side.''

HI Frank, it is great to see your set-up. I have my records organized strictly alphabetically. I have too many CDs to organize and display properly nowadays. Take care!

I also keep my albums, cass.tapes, and CDS in alphabetical order. And my music VHS tapes and dvds. And I log all my music in a big notebook to keep track of them all. As a rule I don't buy multiple copys just don't have the money or the room. As long as I have one copy I'm good. Now if it wears out or gets damaged than I replace it. Thanks for sharing your music room with us.

Great to see another Fluance fan. I would love a set of those speakers. But my Monitor Audio floorstanders do a perfectly admirable job. Still, if you're ever considering selling them give me first refusal lol. I'm sorry I didn't wait another year to replace my old Micro Seiki turntable (what a turntable it is too) with the RT85 instead of the RT81 I went with. Not because I have any regrets about buying the RT81, its a great deck, especially with the Goldring E3 cart and stylus upgrade. But I just love that acrylic platter. Even my wife remarked that it looks great. Its just a pity Fluance don't do upgrades for their turntable platters. I upgraded the RT81's standard rubber mat to an acrylic one so thats something at least.

My primary sections are rock and soundtracks. I divide both by artists and groups while having a special section for live bootlegs and official releases. Another section for soundtracks with horror and oddball soundtracks like tv shows and stuff that would not go anywhere else. I have a section on women artists like Heart, Katy P, Madonna, so on. I just got in a few cube shelves from WayBasics that are easy to put together and you can stack them giving extra storage space, also I kept my 8 carry cases with extra variations of albums like you have. 2 cases of vintage Kiss original albums along with picture discs and other novelties. Absolutely NOT in alphabetical order, no time to do that, but I know where everything is. I invite you to do a video review on Way Basics storage cubes for vinyl records if you like what they offer. Just a cool product that may be useful for many collectors. I love your channel, so keep it going.

I order my records by the artist. That way, if I feel like listening to, for example, The Beatles, all their albums are in one place. This makes it easier for me. I often don’t feel like a particular album, I just want to hear something from a particular artist. So it looks like you collect turntables.....😂😂😂 Cool setup!!! I wish I had the money and the space to do something similar.

Thank You for this series of music room videos very informative with, if you look for them a few handy storage tips. But this question popped into my mind just a moment ago. What would be your preferred music payback system in a car? We know what you love in the house, but how about a video about what you like in the car while on a trip? My solution is music stored on my phone, no dinged up CDs or cassette tapes becoming unwound after hitting a bump. So, Mr. Landry, what is your automotive audio preference?

I don't have the luxury of space to have duplicates. When I come across one, I will A/B my 2 copies and keep the best one. If they're identical, I might also swap the cover if the new one is in better shape than the original. Then I'll either give my other copy to friends or kids I know that are starting in vinyl or trade when there is a trade event near my place (well, there's none these days for obvious reasons but hopefully we can get back to it)

Nice storage of the albums Frank. I once sorted alphabetically, but this didn't last long. I find it's less hassle finding unsorted than putting back alphabetically. My friend purchased Kiss Unplugged from Amazon not long ago. He paid around £4.85 for it. Obviously, it was an error on Amazon's part.

Have you ever checked out Orchid? Since you love Black Sabbath I think you’ll dig Orchid.

OK, have to ask as I have them on my wish list. Are the MoFi Judas Priest worth to buy because of the better mastering from your point of view or are they more towards collectibles?

I'm moving, and when I set-up in my new digs, I may go random. Brainstorm... I have a couple hundred records and another 50 box sets. When I sit down and listen, it's often "shiny object" - something catches my eye or ear, and I commence a spontaneous listening binge. If I listen to something, and routinely put it away at the end, after a few months, all that I recently hear would be randomly sorted to the end, and after a year or so, the albums that haven't had a play would begin to be concentrated at the beginning. That might be a good way to cycle through my collection. I'd still be able to find particular albums, because I have a strong visual sense and memory about the spines of my albums. I've had things orderly for years, and lately I've noticed I tend to favor listening to the same 20 albums or so. Hmmm. Maybe I'll just do that.

Good stuff! I thought I might see Alice Cooper's Constrictor album on vinyl but you do have it on cassette. This album is on my vinyl list!

it is really advisable to have a turntable on an amplifier. due to the heat and maybe micro vibrations from the amplifier
