I have done this many times it’s super easy crotons are very forgiving plants I put cut pieces in deep water in clear glass outside with indirect sun and only add water when it’s below the stem and have new roots about three inches long before I plant them

Thanks ...I did the hard pruning of my leggy croton which was also going all green. I tried notching earlier and though a little growth emerged but nothing much happened after that. After hard pruning and replanting the cuttings it is now bushier and the leaves are also rich in colour.

I have several, about 15 years old each. Every summer they go outside and get rejuvenated as they love brighter light than most of us can deliver, in Canada, in the winter. (It’s the bright light that gives the leaves their colour, if you didn’t know.)

Thanks a lot for sharing this informative video... Even I had a leggy coroton that is about to touch the sky... Saw your this video few days back, tried the same thing with my croton as well... And guess what there are visible shoots growing up in the Parent plant thankfully... Not sure, but really hopeful that the cutting will also shoot up soon... Really thank you so much for this explanation and update, it gives moral support, strength, assurance, confidence & encouragement to go ahead with prunning... As you said 'Never feel guilty about prunning the plant'... Got wonderful results... Thanks again... Take care and God bless you... 🙏😇🌲

I screamed a little when you did the first cut on the leggy croton. But after seeing the final product I see that the pruning did help. Still, I've never pruned my plants like that. I'll be apologizing to them as I cut/ prune. I have a mammy croton who is getting leggy and needs more color.
@GardeningUpbeat

@Monica X, I can totally feel you..and it's not just about Croton, I feel bad to prune any plants. But, whenever we grow in pots (as we don't have lots of space), we need to prune them to keep them in shape. Anyway, the harsh truth is that they don't want to be grown in pots or in containers. But at the same time, we are not doing anything bad or wrong by growing plants in pots. Plus, we are really doing great thing and that's why, no need to worry about pruning :-) I have many plants which are around 4-5 years old and for all those, I need to prune them on yearly basis as I am growing all of them in pots. If I had land, of course I would have grown many plants directly in ground. Happy Gardening :-)

@GardeningUpbeat
@GardeningUpbeat Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for watching the video... >> Only 1 question... what attention did u give the original stem to encourage the new growth and branches..Answers>> No 1. Kept the pot in under indirect Sunlight No 2. Watered only when top 2 inches soil is dry (Plz note, my plant was in 8 inch deeper pot) 3. Didn't do anything strange things that would disturb the stem with bare leaves 4. The rest part of the video starts from here... Please note, specially for No 1 - I don't think you are from too much hot and humid area, like INDIA (guessed from your profile pic n very beautiful click..truly saying). So, in such case, even you keep your plant under direct sunlight just after pruning, it's not going to hurt the plant at all. Temp in my place is quite high..for example, day before yesterday, it was 39°C [102.2°F] I hope, I have answered your question. If you still have any, please feel free to ask me :-)

Wonderful. I have some questions: 1.what is the best time for rooting prunned stems / hard pruning of croton? 2. I have done pruning and 2/3 new tips came from the cut branch, but after some time, 2 blackened and the other one not growing at all, though the plant is very healthy. Please help. Thanks.

@Alia Khatoon, Thank you very much for the feedback, appreciate that :-) Answers - 1. Spring or Summer is the best time as it's the active growth time 2. Look like fungus or pest attack, Corton gets Mealybugs and Aphids attack quite a lot. So, please use the fungicide or pesticide on regular basis. Fungicide - SAAF (Dose - 1/2 teaspoon in 1 liter water) Pesticide - Neem Oil (Dose - 5-7 ml Neem Oil + 4-5 ml light hand wash => Mix in 1 liter water) As the plant is healthy, you can try applying Gibberellic Acid (growth hormone). Dose would be written on the package as it depends on company. But in most cases, 1ml in 1 liter water. Here is one example of such product - amzn.to/3owyxq1 Thank you and let me know if you have any questions, Good luck :-)

@@GardeningUpbeat thank you for your detailed guidance. Yesterday I was watching your Agalonema video, I have many agalonemas, they are big and healthy, but they are not producing new pups, though some of them I have for more than a year (bigger than your plants). It's surprising to see you got soo many new pups within 6 months!!! I used cocopeat 50%, vermicompost 30% , perlite 20%. Some neem cake pwdr, saaf 1/2 tspn. I avoided soil and sand to make the pots light weight. I periodically (once in a month) give them liquid seaweed/fish fertilizer and humic acid, Epsom salt. Where am I going wrong?

@Alia Khatoon, You are most welcome :-) Since your Agalonema plants are healthy, I really don't think you are doing anything wrong at all! The Pups - depends on variety, light condition actually and if I am not wrong, your plants are in green/yellow shade? I have 11 variety of Agalonema plants and let me inform you, I got 2 new pups in of my Red Agalonema after 1.5 years. Most of them usually start producing new pups from July-August and that time, please try to provide them as much bright light as possible. Thank you and no worry, you are doing absolutely fine :-) One hint - if you can, then grow Agaloneme Silver Queen. You would get many pups soon, good luck :-)

I would like to see your results of the leaf rooting process. I did it and I still just have a leaf in a pot. What am I to expect next and when will I see more growth activity?

@Donna M Cook, Honestly saying, I would still need to do try more...tried many times and hope for some +ve result....I am not a Garden scientist but I believe it's possible, somehow as we can find the roots and since a succulent can grow from a single leaf, may be Croton as well. May be need some special environment and case. Many may be...really sorry about that but still need time. Please grow it from stem cuttings and you would get the result much faster and easily. That's another reason why I thought to do this video. Thank you for watching and have a great time ahead :-)
