I know my golf swing is terrible. I move my head and every joint in the wrong way so no need to tell me :) What I'd love to hear is what other cool applications of robots and humans I should build! Oh also, the IMU was so expensive because it is both calibrated and has a processor on it that gives you good quality fused data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer. I've ran into subtle issues trying to do this myself in the past and I really just wanted the IMU to work so I could focus on the problems that haven't been solved well already :) Oh one other thing - I'm totally wrong about the speed of sound in the club. Turns out I am propagating a myth, that's what I get for not doing the math >_

I rewrote it dozens of times, had other people look check it out, read documentation for days and days on end to figure out what was going on, but had no luck. I eventually looked at a part of the project someone else was working on and found that they had written a totally separate network function for a different purpose that was using the same IP and socket addresses from the user inputs meant for my function. His stuff wasn’t even supposed to be networking with the same device as mine. Before I looked at his work myself, I asked him if his work was interfering with mine and he said no, it wasn’t possible. It was a government project so your tax dollars funded a month of me sitting around going insane over a few hundred lines of c++ code all because my coworker was being dumb.

You can then either just glue the wires to the board as strain relief and connect them directly to another board or glue the connector back on and solder your wires to it. This is possible as long as you still have just a tiny bit of copper left, it's first when you rip out a partly hidden via with the trace you are in trouble, first then you (in this case) make USB drivers or digg into the circuit board and hope not to destroy any further traces.

4:10 The conclusions in this section about the shockwave not travelling very far up the club within the 500 microsecond contact time are incorrect. The speed of sound is not a fixed constant! It varies greatly depending on the material through which the sound is propagating. In most steels (and most other metals they make golf clubs from) it's of the order of 3000m/s, so the shockwave will easily travel the entire length of the club in 500 microseconds (in fact a quick calculation shows it'll travel more than 1.5m in steel in this time). From your rough indication with your hands along the club (looked like about 15 or 16ish cm) it looks like you were using the speed of sound in air (~330m/s) for your estimation and were thus out by about a factor of 10.

4:16 no. It would have gone to the top of the golf club a long time ago. The speed of sound is not a universal constant. It is a few orders of magnitude faster in solids and liquids than it is in air. What you are showing is how far a sound wave in air would have gone. In solids the speed of sound is on the order of a few km/s. In your case probably around 6km/s. This is way more than 0.33km/s.
@Lost5tudent4 жыл бұрын
In 500 micro seconds, the pressure wave would travel about 17cm through the air, but about 70cm through hydraulic oil (and about 3m through steel or aluminum).

Wouldn't the hollow shaft complicate this? Most of the volume of the shaft is air surrounded by a thin steel wall. Maybe this is why he made the assumption that the speed could be treated as though it were moving through air?
@jong23594 жыл бұрын
@@NainKaigo solid is solid and air is air, combining the two materials in a hollow tube just means you have two separate measurements of the same wave. The one you feel is the one that is fastest... in this case, solid.

The longest delay in feeling the ball is probably the human nervous system, which is around 0.1 km/s, although it's hard to say the delay because the shockwave travels up your arm through soft tissue as well, but it's a few milliseconds at least.

@Smeeagain224 жыл бұрын
@@honuputters1891 think you need to review what clubs are made there are many different degree wedges not just 2 ;)
@honuputters18914 жыл бұрын
@@Smeeagain22 Of course there are - but if you look in a typical bag, you will find something labeled PW, with a loft in the 45-47 degree range, give or take, and another labeled GW, loft in the 50-52 range, a SW in the 54-57 range, and a LW that is somewhere around 60. Some people carry an extra "high lob" in the 62-65 range, and others have their wedges bent to something in-between. My wedge lofts are 45, 50, 55, 60-bent-to-58. My only point was that most bags carry several clubs with higher lofts than a 9I, and 4 of them is a typical number. So the idea of "dialing it up to 11", as a nod to Rob Reiner and Spinal Tap, is funny, but ultimately not accurate. I have seen clubs that were labeled 10 and 11, and yes, they were wedges.
