My favorite thing for science is just listening to the apologia science books. My kids learn so much. Mostly I just let them listen, but you could get the journals and stuff too.

Welcome back 💛 Our family came out of the learning gates and we ::all:: promptly got real sick, as well (the dreaded C-word)... nothing like deflated goals and plans to humble a Mama's heart, but we live to rise & shine & improvise. We plan, God laughs 🥰 I would just like to say that this talk filled my soulful sails with hope and excitement. We have used Oak Meadow quite loosely all the way up until now- this year, we're adventuring through the 4th grade guide in entirety and while the surrender of trusting the guide feels tough, I am beginning to really fall in love with where it's taking us. Seeing what you guys have been up to in 6th grade... witnessing the sparkle in your eye while you speak on how the material is enhancing conversations and educational direction with your daughter- this makes me very excited. It's a contagious energy. It's such a good feeling to sense our feet are on a good, solid, and correct path. Blessings to you and your family- may the rest of this season of change be a healthy & joyful one. Thank you for this very uplifting update ✨️🧡🤎💛✨️

Glad you are feeling better! So rough to get the flu at the beginning of the school year :( My 7th grader is also working on her time management and doing most of her work independently. We've had a rough couple days where she has had to miss out on activities because she didn't do her school work earlier in the day or week.

I’m glad you are teaching ancient civilizations world history is so important ! may I also suggest the ancient world of Greeks, Japan, and Judieca fascinating to read about even as an adult. I’m not a mom yet but I do find this shift fascinating of more people wanting to do learning pods and of homeschooling

If your child is finished with a subject, just keep going. I’m impressed that she’s in 6th grade and learning pre algebra. I didn’t learn pre algebra until I was a high school freshman (public school 😖) so you are doing great with teaching your babies 👍🏾. Keep going because I am so impressed 😊

So happy you are back and doing well!! I am adding more money to my Oak Meadow fund ;) Doing all the subjects all the time use to burn me out until I found a system. We do history in the fall and science in the winter. I even designate Mondays as project days so we can get them out of the way.

So good to see you back, Brittany. And glad that you took some time off. Was definitely praying for you and the family when I realized I hadn’t seen you in a while. This month has definitely been a month of challenge and change in our homeschool. Just trying to figure what curriculum works and what doesn’t. But we can do all things through Christ. Hoping you have a successful, sickness-free, October 😊

Science is my weak point too! I just found your page for the first time and appreciate you sharing your experience. My kids are k, 1st, and 9th and finding a balance between them is my current difficulty. Do you have a video about how you manage your time so that your kids each get your attention, you still have time for the responsibilities of the home, without getting burnt out? If not, there's a video idea for you. 😄

We started off the year sick as well 😩😩 that’s the worst when you’re so excited to start! Have you ever tried focusing on history/geography one half of the year, and science the other half? It helps me feel less overwhelmed. We also love Book Seeds by Blossom and Root . It isn’t a full science curriculum, but they are fun and quick. I have a 4th, 1st and toddler.

Ugh. Never fun being sick. I am going through an infection right now. My daughter was turning green and got sick to her stomach two weeks ago. Thankfully, that was just one night and my husband was there. I am always praying please don’t let the rest fall! The best part about homeschool is you can take time to pick up. Anyway. I need to find a homeschool pack of my own.

@@brittanyolgaI am the homeschool parent that doesn’t make my kid do school work if they have a cold and they really can’t focus. On the other hand, we year round school and I do Saturdays as needed. People find it crazy that I do that though because in real life people go to work sick even when they shouldn’t. I always want my kids to know that their health is more important. I am glad that you are doing better.

@@sarahe7515 my oldest daughter was not sick when me and my middle daughter had the flu and she wanted to continue her homeschool week. I didn’t want to stop her or make her like she couldn’t accomplish it on her own. Whenever my kiddos are sick we do take the day or weeks off of school.

Hi Brittany! Thank you so much for everything you share! I love watching your videos. I am homeschooling my son who is in 5th grade. I believe I saw in previous videos that you were using Singapore math? I am using 5A, but thinking of switching to Math-U-See. If you did use Singapore math what was the reason you switched? When did you switch to MUS and was it a bit of transition?
@brittanyolga
@brittanyolga 9 ай бұрын
Ok we did try Singapore Dimensions at the beginning of her 4th grade year and it worked very well for my daughter. I was in a busy season with my littles and I could not commit to teaching her math plus all of the other subjects, but I did enjoy Singapore throughly the time we did use it. Math U See is more mastery than Singapore it is less rigorous to be honest but it still teaches conceptual mathematics at a simple and slower pace. We started MUS second semester of her 5th grade year. We have completed Epsilon and now we are more than half way done with Zeta. It has been a great fit for her. Hopefully this answers your questions. ❤️

@@brittanyolga Thank you so much!! This helps a lot. After some struggles and resistance, my son is starting to enjoy math. SM has been great, but might be a bit too rigorous for both of us even though we've been taking it slow. Its been busy with a little one and working so will give this try! Thanks again💕

My 10th grader has been in public school all her life. She is having a hard time adjusting and feels she should go back to in person. However the school and friends and curriculmnis against our wishes. How can we motivate her to be independent with her learning?
@brittanyolga
@brittanyolga 9 ай бұрын
I would suggest taking baby steps to work towards independent such as reading the lesson with her than allow her to do the independent practice on her own. Also when I allowed my daughter to choose which subjects she wanted to do first or last she was more motivated to do school on her own. Hopefully this helps. 💛
