For me 6"6 rods are my go-to for bank fishing. Anything longer is a problem fishing between trees and laydowns plus my truck bed is 6"5. Just makes sense to use a slightly shorter rod.

My Number 1 confidence lure is the curly tail grub. I can throw that lure in any kind of water, during any weather condition, with any kind of pressure, and as either a reaction or finesse bait. By far the curly tailed grub is the most versatile lure in my arsenal. I am ding a bait profile fo the curly tail grub in my next video. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

The Zodias is a rod that’s caught my eye over the years but I haven’t pulled the trigger as of yet. I know you don’t do much with baitcasters. I’m almost the direct opposite. I have my Shimano Stradic from 2000 and my Stella 3000 size from 2004 as well as a Shimano Thunnus on one of my Musky rigs9I gave my Shimano Baitrunner to my son). ALL of my other reels are Shimano baitcasters and I’ve never had a bit of a complaint. BUT now after briefly attempting skip casting with my Shimano DC reels and experiencing nothing but blow ups, I’ve been researching to find the best set ups to make learning that technique as easy as possible without spending NRX, Antares type money. That is my current priority and my research has me leaning hard towards a Daiwa Tatula SV TW. Working on narrowing down a Med-Heavy to Heavy and fast action rod between 6’8” to 7’1” that also won’t break the bank. If you have any experience on this technique or set up, I’d love to see a video on it. Some rods I’ve looked at are the: St. Croix Mojo Bass Trigon Casting Rods; Daiwa Tatula Elite Series Casting Rods and the Fitzgerald Bryan Thrift Series Casting Rods. I’m going to take a drive today to Atlantic City and stop in Bass Pro Shops and Tackle Direct to talk with folks and try to narrow my choices down. Maybe I’ll luck into a Veteran’s discount or Veteran’s day sale.

First I hope you get the best deal possible no matter the reel or rod. Next the best "skip caster" in tournament fishing is Andy Montgomery. So look up videos with him skipping docks online. Now I think he is a Lews guy. I would recommend to stick with that Daiwa SV line of reels. Lews is just not there yet technologically. Every once in a while Zodias rods can be picked up for as little as $150. If I notice a good deal, I will reach out to you. The Daiwa Tatula Elite and the Fitzgerald Bryan Thrift series are great rods to consider. I would pass on the St. Croix Mojo Bass Trigon. It looks great but it is too close to the Bass X on the low end and the Avid on the high end to consider purchasing. The saltwater version is stellar. The Victory is actually the sleeper in the lineup. Also the Victory tends to have the best deals in that selection of rods. Thank you for you incredible service to our country. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

I have the 7” medium spinning Expride and I feel like it’s too stiff for my liking. It’s a beautiful and very light rod. Would like to purchase the 7” light Zodias spinning rod for my finesse fishing. I hope this rod is a 1 power with a 2 power backbone. Is the tip soft with a parabolic bend?

The zodias is exactly as you describe. It is a 1 power rod with a 2 power backbone. The tip is soft through the end of the 1st 3rd of the rod. One of the best finesse rods on the market. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

I would love to find a budget rod as nice and sensitive as my 7'2" Medium, fast action, St. Croix Mojo Bass. I use it for bluegill, bass, pike, and walleye because I can feel every little bite and it improves my hookup rate. I love what your doing with the giveaway bye the way. Love the video! For me, I am one of those fishermen you talk about that only has the bait casters. It is just what I am comfortable with currently. What would be a good budget setup for a beginner starting out using a spinning reel? I fish for bass, so that would be what I am using it for. Also, what lure setup would you use a spinning reel for? I know it is more finesse type of fishing, but what would a good general setup be that I could always keep rigged up year round? Thanks again! Love the channel!!

Thank you very much for watching! Since 99 percent of my fishing with with spinning gear, I rig everything from frogs, to crankbaits, to bladed baits, to worms, to most finesse presentations. My premiere style of fishing is called Power Finesse fishing. That style is just presenting reaction baits in a more finesse way while presenting finesse baits very aggressively. I can fish that style all 4 seasons even in cold fronts and 100 plus degree temps. So far I haven't skunked in over 2 years👏🏿👏🏿🎣
