story 1, You raised her. Shielded her from abuse, pushed her through school, etc. She now has a good life because of you and she turned her back on you when you were hurting. Never see her again, she's a horrible sister. If my sibling was almost homeless, I would run to thier apartment in a heartbeat and make sure everything was ok and open was place up for them to stay for as long as they needed.
@insideAdirtyMind2 жыл бұрын
Giving the sister the benefit of the doubt to not being able to take her brother in (which is fishy anyways), she did not do anything to help him with finding some other place. Did she try to help find someone else to take him in or did she offer some money so he could be at a hotel for some days....nothing. I could not overcome this "I don´t care", it is always hard to understand that someone you would absolutely do everything you could for, is not feeling the minimum of care for you in return. The best thing he could do is learn the lesson and stay away from such people. If people show you their real face, believe it. Just because she is the sister and he cared for her does not garantee that she cares for him.

The comments telling OP that his sister owes him nothing in story 1 because he "chose to parent her" should also know that OP does not owe his sister either. She is not entitled to forgiveness or an open communication line. In a situation like this a one time betrayal is enough to sever a relationship. This is not about the sister stealing OP's cookies or something. Its about a brother who sacrificed his youth to raise his sister and make sure she did not face the same abuse he did and the only time he desperately needed help his sister abandoned him. She can cry all she wants now but what is done is done. If I was the brother that would be the end. I would not even leave a crack open.

I absolutely hated that comment... like, wtf was he supposed to do when they were younger and at the mercy of their neglectful/abusive parent? Let his sister get abused? And I agree, if he's not 'entitled' to help from his sister (based off that one comment) then yes, she's not entitled to his forgiveness and time.
@S_K232 жыл бұрын
@@CanyonALynn Ikr. OP did what many people would not do. Not everyone actually decides to raise their own sibling under such circumstances. Some people just choose to leave. I can't fault those who leave either because abusive situations are very different for everyone and people deal with them differently too. But people acting like it was OP's responsibility to raise his sister and she owes him nothing is just a weird take imo. That sends the wrong message. It doesn’t matter if OP’s sister is remorseful or not. (Besides, whether or not she’s genuine is not something we can glean from the post, so this is pointless to assume.) The only thing that matters is OP’s feelings. His sister could be the most remorseful person in existence, but OP _isn’t obligated to forgive._ If he can’t do it, then he can’t do it. Forgiveness isn’t worth a lot if it isn’t genuine anyway, so pushing for one is a futile effort.

I think the thing OP's sister, girlfriend and friends (and some Redditors/posters here) don't get is that OP is probably not being petty or vindictive. It doesn't sound as though he's trying to punish her. He's trying to protect himself. She killed his love for her, killed it dead. He now wants nothing to do with her and she can't deal with that. Maybe that love will slowly revive over time as the hurt and anger subside, but the relationship they had growing up? It's pushing up daisies. It doesn't matter why she rejected him, whether her husband bullied her into it, or what. What matters is that her rejection killed OP's love for her and you can't just magically change that. Some bridges you just can't rebuild. OP has every right to walk away from her. She (accidentally, no doubt) discharged any possible obligation he may have felt toward her by rejecting him. He owes her nothing. She needs to suck it up and deal with that now. They're her consequences and she must own them.

Story 1: every time I hear a story like this, where the OP has been betrayed and or abandoned, and the people around them start with the forgiveness and faaaaammmmiiiiillllllyy BS, my head immediately starts playing and old Dixie Chics song - I'm not ready to play nice!

Story 1: people tend to forget that you can forgive someone and still cut them out of your life. I cut ties with my step-mom a smuch as possible, but it took my dad years and several explanations for him to really understand that I still love her, have forgiven her, but will not give her the power to hurt me again.

Thought that the first story has already a new update but is the same old story. I think the sister thought that he was just going to roll with the punches like always but now she royally screwed up. Even if the husband what's the cause of not taking op, sister had the opportunity to explain the husband of all the sacrifices that the op did to her. And to be honest I think that she doesn't want a reminder of her past that's why she didn't take op in.
@Rage_Harder_Then_Relax2 жыл бұрын
I wrote something similar above about she might be traumatized by her past and OP brings it all back. In my opinion it's still no excuse for her to not help him in any way or at least to explain why her answer was a flat out NO.

Least she could do was to find him a place to stay or at least give some money to pay a rent. And how she could just be like “ok 👌 be homeless “?!

S1: With regards to the ol' 'forgive and forget' bullshit, when Ive been betrayed, which it has to many times, I dont 'forgive', and then I 'forget' them, the end!! When you dont treat people like crap, why should you take it....and 'family' are the worst offenders.

She took OP for granted since he'd raised her, assumed he'd always be there for her no matter what but now what she's pretty much lost her only family she's gotten a cold hard dose of reality and it's not fun for her anymore. Hope her shitty husband will support and love her thru thick and thin the same way her brother did. Because now he's all she's got to fall back on.

100K subscribers! Congratulations, Mark! First story, I hope OP gets therapy for his lost childhood and I'm glad his GF apologized. Sister seems overbearing and I don't see OP reaching out any time soon. Second story... LOVE! What a wonderful relationship OP and his now boyfriend have always shared! Hope they have many more years together!

Story 1: Pretty sure she would not be reaching out if he was still homeless. Now that he's back on his feet, she wants to make sure she still has him as backup plan to support her. Or she's worried that he now works and has access to the people in conversations to make her lose face.

Story 1: My heart aches for OP. I went through something almost identical. It was actually weird listening because the whole time Im like "OMG... that happened to me too!" Anyway...He did the right thing... distance and time. I don't think their relationship will ever fully recover.... if he chooses to have one with her. It's sad. You go from thinking its us against the world! To realizing that no....its just me. I hope he's happy now...I really do. ❤

STORY 1: Reminds me of that one story where the OP's twin sister was a total daddy's girl and his dad was betrayed by his wife and best friend. The twin ended up choosing the dad and he was hurt but kept on being wonderful. His last straw was the daughter telling him a day to the wedding that he would be walking her down the aisle with the step father. The father went NC completely until he died and OP's twin always regretted it. It was really sad, but OP's twin had it coming. People need to learn the consequences of their actions... Play stupid games, win stupid prizes...

Story 1- My heart would be utterly shattered if my sister did that to me, I'd likely never trust her again, and sadly the OP's sister doesn't sound as if she cares about OP. OP deserves better than that, I truly wish them all the best, and I hope that one day they are able to find peace wherever they are.

Sometimes you have to let go of your brother or sister. Maybe in the future you might be able to at least texted her . How come she couldn't help by at least giving you a little bit of money for a hotel where a motel. There are questions in this story that haven't been answered yet

Sister betrayal: I completely understand. He is owed neither has he owed anything to his sister. Yet, when it was her time to help him, she refused. OP wasn't cruel to her and SHE ruined their relationship I'm glad OP and the gf & majority of his friends backed off when he kept his boundary. If I saw my sister after this, I would turn away as if she were a stranger and tell her to leave me alkne or I'd press charges against her. He is not being petty, he is not putting himself in that position again Love for BFF: That's so cute. Nice to hear a wholesome story like this

Thank you Mark for sharing this lovely story. Also wanted to add they actually acted like mature adults and talked it through!! Holy crap! The sister was a coward. She was afraid to stand up for what was right, so she threw him under the bus since it was easier than putting in the work to help him. Then she got his friends to harass him since that was easier than acknowledging the fact that she fucked up in an unforgivable way. Now she needs to live with that. I just hope she can stand up for the things that are going to matter going forward. Will she let her child be hurt? Or will she protect it when it needs her?

When your back is to the wall is when you find out who is really with you. I’d ignore the sister as well
@juliamiller2299 Жыл бұрын
Story 1, I know exactly how OP feels about his sister. My brother did a similar thing to me. After helping him out for his whole life since my parents just ignored him for the most part. (They, unfortunately, didn't ignore me and were very hard on me.) I was even in the bridal party at his wedding when he got married, and then after his honeymoon, he and his new wife decided I was inferior to her family and he cut me off and went LC. (Think saying hello at Christmas and maybe Easter for the next 20 years.) I never knew his children, nor did they even know my name as they never said a word to me if they saw me.) That all changed when his inlaws had a falling out with him and they went to NC with him and his family. Then, and only then, did he come back into my life. He started sending me cards and gifts, and finally called me up and asked me how I was. Note, he didn't apologize to me. We do talk on the phone now and then, and I didn't tell him to f!ck off but I did tell him when he cut me off, it hurt me deeply for many years, but I have allowed him to contact me. Yes, I forgave him, but I can never forget what he did to me even though he never apologized to me.

What the sister did was HURTFUL, could understand why you feel the way do, she choose not to help you when you needs it the most. OP looks out for your own mental health and physical please don't allow anyone to make you do anything that you aren't ready for.
@tartlynerdy Жыл бұрын
Story 1 - NTA. The people claiming op's sister doesn't owe her brother for the choices and sacrifices he made to look after her are conveniently ignoring that op didn't owe her anything. He had the drive, the work ethic to support himself and life would have been significantly less of a struggle without his sister to financially support. Without her brother she would've been a high school drop out. He helped her selflessly so for many years and she abandoned him. Saying "she feels really sorry" is nothing. It's going to take a lot of work to rebuild trust that was busted. It doesn't sound like she's even willing to take accountability let alone start doing the actual work to get op to trust her again.

Story 1: Someone who cares wouldn't have to be asked for help; They'd offer it themselves without hesitation and make things work in some way or the other. If OP Couldn'T stay at their home there are still a lot of other options they could've chosen to help them out instead of denying any help at all. Like offering some money to help with rent or trying to get them to stay at some aquaintance or stuff. If you want to make it work you can make it work, is what I want to say - And she didn't care to offer any help at all. She deserves what she got.

Story 1. Maybe the sister's husband would not let him stay but could she not lend him enough money to cover rent and a little more. It's not like he didn't work for years in order to help his sister. She could have covered a couple of months without letting him into her house. This is just her not liking the consequences as she no longer has a back-up.
@phoenixwaddell60932 жыл бұрын
Na it's more then likely she didn't even ask her husband or else husband would have told OP "hey man it's my fault dont punish her for my doing"
@phoenixwaddell60932 жыл бұрын
It almost seems like shes trying to "apologize" now that she has a kid eathere for a babysitter (as she knows big brother can do it) or money maybe a college fund for the baby. Shes not remotely sorry or she would exept OP is done. She wants the man who took care of her to take care of her kid now and I shocked when he wont now that she showed what she thinks of his sacrifice to her
@jacegallagher85892 жыл бұрын
Story 1: OP, there is nothing wrong with how you feel about your sister. I would like to say that she learned her lesson, but some lessons are learned too late. It is up to you whether or not to forgive her. The only thing I have to say is that you need to decide if you are ok losing your relationship with her forever (nothing wrong with that) or if you think your relationship is salvageable, but not at your expense.
@Zaddy-Lu2 жыл бұрын
Story 1 is so sad, and somewhat relatable. I would cut off my sister if she treated me the way OP's sister has/is. She had a kid THEN reached out, so I think it's likely because she wants monetary help for her child.

story 1: As a person that's voluntarily estranged from their family. Yeah I wouldn't talk to that sister as well. Not because I'm getting back but because I see it's not worth it. If you have to basically be in a form of kangaroo court to keep a family member in your life or have a family member do anything for you, it's just don't worth it Story 2: My only thought throughout that entire story was oh my god. Please say the feelings are reciprocated. Please say they're gay. I want to die of adorableness right? The frick now
