main causes of slippage are the use of conditioner or oils too soon (none should be used on new interlocking before the locks settle) settling can take as little as 2 months to as long as a year ...depends on hair type. oil should never be used on the super strand before the hair has locked. the other culprits are too much water used on hair and getting hair color. hair color should only be used on mature locks usually 2 years old or older. water should only be misted on hair not drenched. shampoo should lift or toughen cuticles. never use a combination conditioner and shampoo. no oils on hair and only light oil on scalp if needed.

+queenbeethatsme100 I'm two weeks post my installment and lately I've been itching like crazy. If I mist my scalp with water it stops for a min and then returns. Any advice? My loctition said it happens and I may need the sistaloc shampoo for dry scalp however, dry scalp is somewhat new for. I've been natural a year and a half and I've never dealt with this. Could it be the shampoo?
@MizzNette1009 жыл бұрын
+Adona Pierre Hey there! Believe me when I tell it's the product!! Like you I never really had issues with dry scalp. However when I started using the SL starter shampoo the problems began. I think it's meant to dry out your hair so that it can begin the locking process, which is good & bad. However because you may not be ready to transition into a new product (especially one that moisturizes) I would maybe switch to the SL dandruff shampoo. Believe me when I say as soon as I switched shampoos my problems went away. And the new shampoo also helped to moisturize my locks (only a little bit tho). So if your SL consultant gives you the green light to change shampoos, do it!! Now if she doesn't I would recommend shampooing a little bit more often (maybe every 2 weeks) or even using some type of oil mixed with water in a squirt bottle. That may help to alleviate dryness, which leads to itchiness. Help that helps.

Thank you so much. I'll contact her today because it's about to drive me nuts. Thanks to the Lord I haven't had any problems besides that.

+Adona Pierre Quite a few people have itching when using the shampoo. The shampoo is NOT formulated to dry your hair out. It is formulated to LIFT the hair cuticle and potentially to remove some of your natural sebum. A lifted cuticle is like raised up fish scales (which cuticles resemble microscopically) they feel rough because they are sticking up. Once rough, they act more like velcro and begin to mesh and mat at a much higher frequency. If such a product is not used, then a locking process that might have taken only a few months to begin can instead take over a year. Until the locking process is complete, you should not color, oil, use conditioner at all or style hair too much. I agree that you may want to switch shampoos.but do not keep spraying water on your head because that can cause a lot of slippage . One more thing....besides the itching are you noticing any debris? specifically small, very hard white balls. they would look like very , very tiny white grains but would be hard and beady. If you have those in the itchy spots then your hair may be locked TOO TIGHT. when locked too tight a loctitian can pull your hair follicles right out of your head and those hard grains are actually your hair bulbs. when hair follicles a really released like that it is often accompanied by intense itching. This is a No No. as that follicle. may die or go dormant when the bulb is released. Potential other shampoos to use are most clarifying shampoos or products such as Nature's gate shampoo which you can buy at whole foods. if your consultant must order your new shampoo try washing your hair with nature's gate. Dilute it in water (about 1/4 shampoo to 3/4 Distilled water) put it all in a color applicator bottle and apply directly to your scalp. also did you use the shampoo prior to your lock establishment? if so.. did your head itch? if it only began itching after the establishment it may also have been the comb used on your head. Always ra J email a clean comb of your own to your retights to ensure you don't pick up other people's cooties. According to some people, msm powder mixed in distilled water also alleviates itching. I tried that and it made the itching worse at first and left a white residue. you may also still have product on your scalp. be sure to bundle your hair and if your consultant offers the service, have her wash your hair and rinse to decrease the slippage.

Good information! My first re tie was six hours. I workout 5 days a week, I've learned to keep my hair tied up until it dries and to mist my hair with water only 2-3 times per week. Not daily. My goal is to only be in that chair 3-4 hours as opposed to 6
@MizzNette1008 жыл бұрын
Oh wow!!! Yes 3-4 hours is ideal and way better on your pockets. Glad I could provide the information.

Slippage is the worst!!! I'm 2 months post install. I tie my hair down every night, I band and wash my hair once before my retie (at this point every 5 weeks), I don't use conditioners, oils, creams, NOTHING, and I wear a shower cap EVERY time I take a shower. I also have very short locs and I have several different textures throughout my head. Even doing all of these things I still have alot of slippage in the back of my head. I wish I could prevent it because it takes a long time to retie🙄😒 I can't wait for them to loc!!😫😩

This was a very good video. I got locked in April and have very fine hair so i always get slippage of my temples and the back as well. I'm literally scared to touch it! But i will def. use some of the techniques you have mentioned because my husband is not in the mood to spend anymore money on slippage!!! Lol! Be blessed!

Thanks for this video!!! You're covering all the things I want to know about! I've had my babies for a week now and I hardly manipulate them at all, just spritz in the morning with pure water (no oils or anything in it), shake and go. I VERY lightly oil my scalp every other day. I've decided to wash my hair just once a month, the day before my re-ti, and I will be sure to band, thanks. In the shower I always wear a shower cap so they don't get soaking wet or anything. I started with about 6-8" of natural hair and I sleep in a loc soc AND a bonnet and it seems to be working okay. So far I don't see any slippage. My re-ti is due on Jun 1st. so I'll let you know how this regimen works for my first weeks. Thanks SO much for being here for us (me) and sharing this info, it's invaluable stuff!! Oh, I should mention that my SL consultant is amazing!! She's a lovely girl, a real professional with LOTS of experience and we have an excellent relationship. Unfortunately though, she's too busy to make videos, so that's why I feel blessed to have found your channel. Much love!! xxx

Awww! I'm so happy this has helped at least one person. Because trust me I didn't have anyone to help me learn all this stuff up front...I learned the hard way lol. But I'm glad that I can be that for someone else. And AWESOME on your SL consultant. Having a good relationship w/ your consultant I feel is important. I love my consultant. We even hang out sometimes :) If their are any other topics you'd like me to cover please let me know. Enjoy your journey and definitely keep me updated :)

I did use it prior and yes it did itch and dry my scalp out. I'm only misting my scalp but I may try the other shampoo you suggested because I'm highly sensitive and my skin/scalp will let me know right away. I honestly don't believe I'll ever have slippage based upon my hair texture, its not super kinky but my crules are tight and I'm medium thickness. my loctition told me my hair was perfect for locks and any natural styles(that made me feel good) Thank you so much for educating and helping me. I'm going to try that shampoo for my wash before my retighting and loc check.

Thanks for sharing this information, I'd my sL's 6mths. I agree with everything you said, I don't do styling because of my hair texture. I have a soft texture and it's going to take some time for them to settle. I can't wait for them to settle. LOL
@MizzNette10010 жыл бұрын
You're quite welcome. I'm with you girl!!! LOL. Cause I'm ready for them to mature. And like you I have soft textured hair but I also started w/ a lot of length. So I'll probably be in my 2nd year and they still will not have locked all the way. But we'll get there Sista! :-)

This video is so helpful. Thank you for making it! I have had my Sisterlocks for almost 2 weeks now and have a few fatalities in the front and in the back. My hair is short so I was expecting some to come out. I also made sure to keep my hands out of it. I have a satin bonnet that I sleep in but I am looking for some thing better. Someone mentioned a loc soc to me yesterday so I will be testing that out. I am looking forward to watching more of your videos!!

No matter your hair locking pattern, ask your consultant to begin and in your locks in a reverse 4 pattern. The more a reverse 4 pattern is used , the less hair can slip.

Thank you very much this is very helpful. My locks are not locked yet. How often should I spray water on them?
@MizzNette1008 жыл бұрын
Spraying water on them is fine and should not affect them too much. And you can spray as often as you need, especially because in the beginning phase they stay dry because you can't moisturize them. Spraying them should not cause slippage.

My Sisterlocks are 6 months in and I have a loose curl with lots of slippage. I knew I shouldn't play too much with my hair but a lot of it was unconscious. My new consultant told me all of the above. I was also over spritzing with water too. She said Spritz only when I feel my hair needs it. Oh yeah and stop running my fingers down the length of the strands. A real improvement!

I have had sisterlocks for 17 months now. Im still experiencing slippage in my edges. Initially locks were falling out from my temples. Now my hair is growing back and the front edges cannot stay! I dont wash often (once per 2 weeks sometimes 3 weeks) i band and braid. I do admit... i am conscious of my edges after locs were falling out so i am always touching it 😫🤦🏾♀️. Im jusy getting so frustrated with the temples of my hair 😫... any advice and ideas of what is going on?!?! I do have seborrheic dermatitis in the temples and i am fortunate enough to not experience any recent flare ups
@MizzNette1005 жыл бұрын
Mychel Smith Oh I’m so sorry to hear this!! Well yes stay out of your hair (as hard as that is) & maybe try going longer between washes (if possible). Just for the sake of not manipulating them too much. I’ll also ask my Loctician what she thinks & let you know what she says. Much luck in your journey. I know it will get better. 😊
@mychelsmith14915 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply! I would appreciate what your loctitian suggests. For now i put rubberband around each new lock around my edges until its time for a reti. I also wash my hair twice between reti. Because its hot i wear my hair up in a ponytail and a styled hairwrap around my edges when im out in casual relax places and hair wrapped when im home. Of course at work i have to wear my hair out but im trying to touch it less... it is hard especially with the itching (i have seborrheic dermatitis).

@MizzNette10010 жыл бұрын
Nope! Surprisingly none of my slippage came from working out. As long as you tie your hair down or put it in a pony tail while working out you will be fine.Good luck! :)
