I think this video, especially the current condition of your equipment, accentuates how the quality of equipment is only about 5-10% of your riding, the other is pure skillz!!

I got to experience this situation when I jumped on a shitty Burton rental board with rocker profile.. The board and bindings were trash but I was still able to make the most of it and ride really well. The gear makes a difference but when your usually buying good quality gear the difference between everything is miniscule and you probably won't notice if you're not a high end rider

Just found your channel, awesome content! I got back into snowboarding last winter with my son, after not doing it for roughly 20 years. I no longer fit my old boot/binding setup, but was able to snag a set of the same Cartel X that you show in this video. They had been on a Demo last season, but look like they went out only a few days, basically new condition. For 89$ it was a score I think. My son and I were also given a setup from a friend, and it has some like new Burton Freestyle boots that fit me. Can't wait to get onto my old deck again. My son rode a rental with his school for a trip, then we went twice and he rode my old board as he fit my boots... the board is a fairly stiff camber all mountain twin from the 90s, stiff because I'm a heavy person...my son is like 150 soaking wet so I was surprised that he did OK on my old steed... Hoping that the board we were given will work for him, or possibly looking to get him a new one of his own, something with some ofnthe newer tech might be better to learn on. The rental I rode those 2 days was OK, a bit like a wet noodle when I got going fast, but I probably need the reminder not to be doing that these days...lol Will be watching more of your stuff withy kid as season approaches. Let me know if you think an Arbor Formula Rocker would be a good choice for him, that is the board we are considering. Cheers

Thanks for the breakdown Tommie! I guess after 150 days and still having that much camber and pop, seems like Burton's "Infinite Ride" is no gimmick and this is a testament to it. I have 50+ days so far on my Free Thinker and I'm hoping mine stays the same as yours!

I’m going on 250 days on my ‘22 Korua Dart 56. Similar days on Flow Fuze bindings (one ratchet failed, replaced from spare broken binding). I do a base edge grid once a year, wax and edge tune every 3-5 days depending on snow conditions in Stowe VT.

i Won that Board in Summer Camp at Woodward, but is 158 and I'm 5'9 140 lbs had a really Hard time in the beginning of the Season so I Switch to my Ride Board for a Month, Than Saw a video of Zeb Powell saying you got to man handle it and my snowboarding Muscles where more developed after a Month, I ended up really Liking it, especially in the Jumps and Nose presses, Love how it holds the edge after landing but after 10 days i split the Nose, Luckily a good Friend epoxy it for me, also watching you ride it inspired me to Give it another chance and Glad i Did, Still hit and miss on the rails but is a good challenge, just wish my resort had a better Park. Thanks for the Vids

Burton Cartel/Cartel X bindings are the OG workhorse. I've had mine for like 5 seasons and they're still going strong. The ONLY reason I've started using Unions is because their disks and heal cup combo make them adjustable for stance width while keeping your boot centered as well. Burtons can't do this. You get 1/2cm forward or 1/2cm back for heal adjustment and zero adjustability for stance width other than the board's insert pack (if you're not using channel). My stance width rarely lines up with boards' inserts. For example, my main board's ref. stance is 56cm. If I used the insert pack only, the next widest stance would be 60cm (2cm out on each foot, keeping me centered over the sidecut). But Union disks give you +/- 1cm in 1/2-cm increments in either direction, on each disk. So I can set my board up exactly how I like it with 58cm stance.

You should do a base grind and tune again to show how much a proper tune can revive a “beat” board!

Would you recommend the Capita DOA as a similar board to the Blossom? I found a good deal on one of those and I really want a snowboard like your's. We have a similar style.

I’d be interested to hear why you ride the regular bindings as opposed to the est system.

I had a very bad experience with Cartel bindings. I had them when I was learning how to ride the park jumps. First, I destroyed and replaced both bases. Both highbacks with this weird adjustment system were broken but somehow worked, and the screws from all 4 straps tended to get out so I had to have a screwdriver to fix it every day before I start riding. Once I bought my new bindings, those Cartels went not to second-hand market but to trash. Not to mention that even the size of the binding was correctly chosen, I often felt kind of loose in them. I could have maybe 200 days on them, but in general, it was a disaster. Nowadays, I have SP Brotherhood and did maybe 120 days on them. 1 aluminium(!) base was replaced, and 1 toe strap. From that I may admit it's just me who causes all the damage with poor riding and not the bindings themselves 😂

you should totally try the cartel x est version. est has way better board feel then reflex with the disc mount

Curious about how you like the EST channel system. Personally, I don't like it - I could feel my binding heel lift from the board in hard toe -side carves. With two points of contact along a single axis it just seems less stable and more prone to lift at the toe and heel with the torsional forces of carving.

I’d like to know how many days you get out of a pair of boots, I used to get new boots every season cause I like stiff boots, but I just got 300 days out of my ion step on boots, hard all mountain days-hiking and whatnot.

I'm a big fan of anything that lets me ride without friends. I bought the Insta360 narscistick. My camera made it invisible and now I can't find it. Any help?

being honest I bought Burton Custom Camber 2024 (white/orange) and used only two days and find a cosmetic damage (peeled) in top sheet close edge.. I didn't have any problem like that with my Rossignol Evader used for two seasons (ok some scratches because top sheet is black piano).. I'm pretty sad about the top sheet quality feels cheap.

Being mindful of how/where you ride actually goes a long way. I hate the smell of P-tex and hate using it. Keep your structure good to begin with and you won't need to have them grind your board. Grinding for slush snow makes a huge difference though.
