For story 1 you missed a huge part of the story: lets see the son threw the will and a single picture frame (that was the supposed temper tantrum) then was screamed at by his half brothers who attempted to initiate the fight. But it was way worse in the update, remember how the dad said he was struggling to get his sons work done. Well it turns out he was given all the worst jobs many of which broke labor board rules as well as threats of fraud. The dad paid him with a bank draft to keep him quiet and admitted he had never planned on adding him to the company. Apparently the money every 5 years was capped at $,7500 so so basically nothing compared to the other brothers. A lot of missing, missing reasons floating arround.

Story 1: Markee, don't just read the BORU post. It was so much worse. The "throwing things around the house" was the son throwing the copy of the will on a table. The "nearly got in a fistfight" was the two younger sons threatening the oldest. The "racial commentary" was straight up racist and was just the son and his mother repeating what OP said during the divorce. The amount of the trust would have been about $5k every 5 years.

Story 1: So much info missing and so much can be inferred with the wording the OP uses. Also went and looked up the original post! 1. OP’s son worked for the company (so did his other two). 2. OP’s sudden refusal to work affected the work at the company. 3. The son didn’t get physical and ‘throw’ about things - he confirms in one of the comments that older son, threw the will and spoke angry words the half brothers got physical. So again, OP tries his best to portray the older son in as bad a light as he can. “My wife and son are hurt” not “My wife and brothers” - He had definitely treated the older son badly. His family against the older son and ex-wife. He has knowingly or unknowingly punished the son for what he perceives his ex-wife has done. He also doesn’t clarify what all went down before with ex-wife. If son was so bad, why was he working for the company and in a role that affected the company when he left. Don’t trust this narrative. OP hoped he would be dead before son found out and then he wouldn’t have to go through this exact fight! My instinct tells me OP is the AH!

OP’s Will: YTA. Leaving a lopsided will is guaranteed to cause resentment and anger. Doing it to specifically keep one son out of the business he’s been a part of for YEARS is just the icing on this crap cake. I’d have quit too. Whether OP was afraid of his son’s mother interfering, what he did was alienate a son who’s been working for him a long time.

Middle name I could understand. They still have their own unique name that they're known by but have a family middle name. I do. My first name is unique to me, and my middle name has been the middle name of my mom, my grandmother on my mother's side, and my great grandmother(not that my mom picked the name for her, but she let my gg think whatever she wanted lol), and probably my great grandmother on my mom's side as well. Hell, I gave it to my dog as a middle name. Yes, I'm that type of person. lol Anyways, family middle names I can understand. It's first names. Just seems like it would get confusing and weird naming so many family members the same name. At least as a middle name you're still honoring your loved ones and family, but also giving that kid some individuality. Either way, the parents are in charge of the name, and are allowed to name the kid whatever they want. It's not the grandparent's kid, not their decision. They had no direct input on the creation of that kid, nor did they birth it. lol If they want to disavow their own grandchild because they didn't get there way and decided to act like petulant children, then that's on them. As to the story where the term "tragedy" is debated: it is NOT uncommon for people who fall and hit their head, to feel fine for even 24 to 48 hours post head injuy. A small brain bleed occurs and slowly leaks out into surrounding brain tissue. But until the bleed becomes large enough to put pressure on the brain (because of skull, the brain can only swell so far before pressure builds) there may be no alarming symptoms and no indication medical attention is needed. This happened to actor Liam Neesons wife while snow skiing. She died after refusing an ambulance after a fall on the ski slope. Hardly a low income employee.

People would feel 100% differently about Story 1 if they were hearing about the employees of this company losing their jobs because of the ex-wife. I’ve worked with some wealthy folks and have watched an ex-spouse destroy a business purposefully to spite the children of her ex without regard to impact on several hundred employees. The father would be a fool if he didn’t fully protect his business from her. A trust is managed money and assets.. You are not going to pay the fees associated with managing a trust for anything that isn’t 6 or 7 figures. The son can be hurt, but why would he inherit a third as long as the current spouse is alive? Her old age should be protected and paid for from their assets. If the son has a separate trust that means the mother’s portion is coming from the business. Redditors have very little knowledge of what it means to have wealth and it shows in answers to people with sizable assets.

There is more to the story, as there's an updated post. Judging from it, I think the son's real issue was that he put time, money, and effort into building the company (In fact, some comments indicate that he put a lot of the work into the company compared to the other sons) and he felt like he was being shafted. Also, there's clearly more going on than OP has stated. He fudged the truth about the incident when the son discovered the will, as it turned out the other two sons were more of the aggressors. OP also made a comment about situations in the past "that he had no control over", which gave me major red flags that the son wasn't treated kindly. Overall, the commentors on the update were mostly against OP, saying that he allowed his hatred for the ex to clout his judgment.

@@NinjaCthulhu that’s really beside the point. If you own a company that has value and multiple inheritors-regardless of their employment status with the company-the advice any competent estate attorney is going to give you is not divide the company among your children equally. It will be to give the business to the inheritors with the ability to work together and govern it. Others will receive some type of trust inheritance based on your personal assets/liquidity and accessible business value. It won’t be an equal distribution since all businesses have value that cannot be liquidated. This isn’t about fairness. It’s about protecting the business and employees from familial interference. Also trusts can be configured to receive payments from the company as a share of profits. I doubt that any Reddit post that is real would get into the actual weeds with how something like this is configured. It needs to hold up to legal challenges to both the estate AND be valuable enough to not sue the business. Based on what you’re saying? It’s a fake post.

My aunt did this with my cousin. My uncle was the first born son and my grand father and great grandfather also had the same name, I can’t recall if it went back any further generations, but my grandparents were mad because my aunt (mind you my uncle was in on the decision too) ruined a family tradition that went back to our ancestry in Ireland. Well my cousin is gay and doesn’t want children so even if he was named after tradition, it would have ended with him anyway.

I'm so glad he did bc I was like this... isn't an accident?? This was a catholic ran hospital back in the day, and apparently, it was very common for the nuns to change the name you picked to be more religious (ex: Marisela, but the nun's made it maria isela because there is a saint named Maria, not marisela). As for me, I had my baby names picked well before I even knew were babies came from, and if I have a daughter, I will 100% have my bff's name somewhere in there. I hate how everyone here is defending OP. The son helped his father build the business, to the point that OP had trouble covering his work tasks. So basically, all the family assets are going to the younger children, and the oldest, who built the company will be left with Pennies and working for his younger brothers. I read the whole thing a while back, OP tried to paint his oldest son as “aggressive” for knocking a picture frame, while one of his youngest hit him (it came later on but OP minimized it). He is “lowkey” racist, refusing to admit how the son feels, as OP’s family has made “comments” that “could” be “misinterpreted” throughout the years. The son’s feelings are valid and OP sounds like he’s the problem and making out the ex to be a monster (projecting what he is!).

To be fair, MOST people would have issues covering two people's jobs at once. That's not in any way a good way to determine how much work the son put in or how vital he was in general to the functioning of the business. Also, why was the son even rooting around in someone else's office in the first place? Sure, you can argue that the father etc are assholes based on your feelings around the post, but the SON isn't exactly a shiny beacon of decency either. He's not entitled to anyone's money. He didn't even want to listen to WHY. He didn't show up for his job for a week (which is justification enough for him to be fired WITHOUT any severance package, to be honest). IMO ESH, some more than others.

Why would you want to listen to the “why” when you’ve always been the second class citizen at your fathers family, and are being treated like this once again?! And yes, the son took a big chunk of the business responsibility, more than the younger brothers, and AGAIN, he helped build the business! @@kiarar.1219 LOL reading comprehension - you might want to work on that. Where did I say any of that? I didn't. Where did I say he didn't even have a right to be UPSET or that he wasn't even justified about being hurt? Again, I didn't. I'm saying his BEHAVIOUR was kinda sucky. I'm the literal fucking scapegoat in my family, while my sibling is the golden child, so unlike many (if not most) people commenting on this, it isn't something I speak about without understanding what that is like. Being in that position is miserable, it hurts like crazy, but that doesn't mean that I agree with some of his behaviour. Nuance FTW. Also, nobody needs you patronising them with lines like "you can look up stories you know". Not only is it unnecessarily judgemental, but many people - including me - have a life outside of KZbin and don't have the time to Google literally every story they hear on KZbin from any of the numerous Reddit commentating creators, which could come from half a dozen or more different subreddits - especially as older stories tend not to HAVE full context or remain. Hell YOU didn't even bother looking it up, you're relying on your memory of reading it God knows how long ago. Pot, meet kettle?😂 Also, if you had that extra info before, why didn't YOU post it in one of your numerous comments? Because, you know, that's what *I* do, rather than just judging people who are working with incomplete information, as I understand that not everyone gets to see the whole story for every post read out. I don't try to act like a know-it-all or play "ha! gotcha!" games. Maybe you should try it? Because your attitude is unwarranted. 🙄 As for your question - I, personally, would never consider working for or with the people who abused me my whole life. I sure as shit would never have formed a BUSINESS with them. And on the weird off-chance that I did, I would have QUIT the moment I found out instead of just going AWOL for a week or so because that's just crappy behaviour (especially if there are OTHER people outside of my family working at the business who inevitably have to pick up the slack too, while I continue to get paid for not being there because the boss feels guilty). It's called having a moral code and respecting other people. And even if what you say is true about him actually looking for a specific business document, that STILL isn't justification to sit there after finding someone's will and literally take the time needed to read it. You don't just accidentally spot a document and instantaneously read, comprehend and react to the multiple pages of content just because your eyes drifted over it. He SNOOPED, regardless of how you try to justify it. At best, it means he wasn't snooping looking for info he could use AGAINST his father - but again, doesn't mean he wasn't, either. And then rather than even bother to even ask about it, he just blows up at everyone - including his siblings (who were absolutely NOT to blame for what his parents chose to put in the will). Look. At no point did I say that he was as MUCH of an asshole as his father and stepmother. I specifically said that the asshole rating of ESH wasn't applied equally to everyone. They clearly have their favourites and that's obnoxious, and I have endless sympathy for that. They are obviously the much bigger assholes in this story by a long shot. But he ALSO was a bit of an asshole too, albeit with far more provocation. It's okay to say that, without defending the bigger assholes. You do understand that, right? Not everything has to be so black and white. 🤦

Anyways, for a person who doesn’t live on KZbin you sure as hell wrote a big ass paragraph. So thank you so much for dedicating your valuable time to me ☺️.

Melanin rich people always find racism. just because you clock in everyday doesn’t make the store yours The son parroted the same line as mommy then ran back to her this solidifying that he’s a mommas boy

If the cop pressed charges it would not be to teach the kid a lesson. It would be because the kid broke the law. He crashed into another vehicle and then fled the scene.

“And he owned up to it right away.” No. No he didn’t. He took off and owned up to it only after he was tracked down and confronted.

Story 1. The dad says he lost everything in the divorce and had to restart from nothing. I reckon he thinks his ex wife had his eldest inheritance in the divorce. The payments in trust were just to keep him slaving in the business for his other kids. Also, the oldest is getting married! Ges about to have to gave his own wife and kids to worry about Just how much of a financial influence does he think his mother has on him? No way he loves his kids the same. Not a change!

If he’s paying his sons they aren’t slaving . Stop the cap When you clock in at your Dollar General job you don’t expect part of the store just for showing up

Then the kid went out and spread lies. They were right to worry about the mothers influence on a week minded Indian boy

@@tennesseedogpack What I meant by slaving away was the son working hard on something that is never going to be his, as he himself previously thought. No share in the profits. Just an employee. Also, we're no talking Dollar General Jobs here. We're talking about a family business. Hence the 1st son reaction.

Mom Sex Worker: NTA, and good on OP for dumping this waste of space. I’ve been friends with sex workers. There are different types. Some are hard up for money and making it the only way they can, some get stuck in a cycle of drugs and abuse, but some really enjoy it and feel it’s a calling. I only have a problem with the second type, because they’re in a downward spiral and will wreck their health.

I was so worried the dad of not- Peter secretly changed the name. That would be a very Reddit thing to happen. Glad he was on his wife's side.

OP 1 : I don't trust my sons judgement because of his mother Bro you dated her, married her and had a kid with her and somehow missed that she was a terrible person ... surely your judgement is the one we should be questioning here? The son isn't in control of the circumstance of his birth.

Second story would have been an easy fix. Grandmother said "In her lifetime", so that promose is fulfilled abd they arent dishonouring the grandmother any more. Name the son what their plan was, and add Peter as a middle or third name. Grandmother promise is honoured, husbands family tradition is continued. Job done. Zero fuss, everyone gets their way.
