No. It’s not being forgetful. He deliberately took the device and put it in the car. He’s gaslighting you and your son. He is punishing you both. It’s very devious and well thought out. A normal person, when confronted with the loss of a phone, would cancel the contract because why waste the money? So many things can be bought using the phone and thus run up a massive bill. He kept the contract running for several reasons (1) he KNEW no-one could use it (b) he sort of looks like the good guy, should it turn up but the nastiest of them (3) your son KNOWS that if he had the phone he could use it, but he doesn’t, so he can’t. It’s akin to giving him a bar of chocolate that’s locked in a box that can’t be opened. It’s teasing but not in a pleasant way but in a vile and depraved way. It’s an insidious dirty trick that your husband absolutely loves playing. He’s telling you not to baby your son, exaggerating his progression because he wants you to step back and spend less time and emotion on him. I’ll bet that of you sit back and look at the interactions he’s had with and about your son you’ll see constant attempts to refocus you onto your husband.. You need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Sounds kinda weird.. both of your sons gadgets go missing & are later found in your husbands spaces.. idk sounds like a pretty well thought out plans.. the $10/month it cost him to keep the line open & play innocent doesn’t hurt him as much as a kid with no phone or iPad for the near foreseeable future & the lack of trust that created

It sounds like you should give him the benefit of the doubt. If there isn't any clear motive or maliciousness I would take it at face value. I am VERY forgetful. My husband decided 30 years ago, right after we got married, to not get angry with me over things I forget. I am so grateful for his willingness to assume my best intentions.
